Because, in a moment of almost unrivaled stupidity, I forgot about using MIPS.
Hmm. If you were to use MIPS, then JRB would only need the first star and the 100 coin star. and WF would only need the red coin star. How difficult would it be at this point to incorporate MIPS into the run? Also for PSS, I just lol'd, though I know some people are really picky about camera angles, I agree witht he guy who said anything not the same-old-same-old for that level was fresh.

If we could hex in TotWC, WF, and CCM, we'd probably start over from the beginning of PSS...

Finally, a decent run of PSS WITHOUT that retarded shortcut.

Quick; record it with the shortcut, jumping back up to collect the missed coins!

Just watched the WIP and I gotta say I love everything about this run. It's good to see such an entertaining idea getting the attention it deserves to make a good movie. This is what I think the site is (or should be) about. Keep it up, and congrats.

Looked fantastic, CCM in particular. But PSS looked...questionable. If you are going to do what you did in that level, wait until he's out in the open, and don't just do it once. Do it several times, like FODA's 120 star run's CCM slide.

Thanks for the feedback; if we can hex it, we'll redo PSS. We thought it might be cool since it's only 10 seconds, and to an unsuspecting viewer, it would look ridiculously skillful.

now that I think about it, it might be cooler to just do the slide without any fancy camera stoppings, just because this is the only run that actually does the slide the way it was meant to be played.

For the next 16 star run: This is less that 2/3 of a second slower than the fastest "Blast Away the Wall" so far, but it's pretty unoptimized. Its probably nothing, but maybe someone can test a little and see if this method has any potential.

I made a more optimised version of that. I got it 21 frames faster than in me and AKA's run. I'll have to experiment with more strats to see if it can be reduced further. Nice fidea though.

Well I watched the WIP. I must say I was confused about your goals until I read you forgot about MIPS, pretty good so far. Ought to be interesting seeing the game beat just getting a mess of coins. Interesting goal. Is there really only 104 coins in JRB?

That has to be faster surely, the other strat that was used before is probally optimal within 1-2 frames. I reckon thats probally a second faster if fully optimized. I have a pretty good idea how much the next improvement run should be, although it will be tricky again to try and shave more frames across the game in general.

Looks good, how fast is that framewise compared to Swordless and AKA's version?

I haven't watched the WIPs, but I just have one quick question. Is the animation for picking up the Blast Away the Wall star faster than the animation for any other star in the game? If so, how many frames does it save? Would ending your all-coin route by picking up the BAtW star be faster because of this?

Not particularly; we've kind of planned a route we think is the fastest, and BAtW is kind of off to the side.

but your old strategy involved more stars because of the lack of mips. wouldn't it make more sense now to end the wf coin route with the caged star? it's right there by the platform that you got the last coin on.

That's a great idea, but the LJ to the star is pretty cool. =( Nevertheless, if it's faster (which it almost certainly is), we'll do it, since we're redoing from WF anyway.

Wow, redoing already? :p Anyway that's good, I'm sure you'll find some new coin routes with the experience you have now. My version of your blast away the wall was ~18-20 frames faster than your test, and you should be able to save more.

haha that was awesome. I still can't believe you guys did PSS with that camera angle. I suggest that, while unorthodox and kinda cool with "wtf how did they know where they were going" I'd still say keeping Mario in view is better.

yeah it's great to see but the point of the run is to see how all the coins are collected isn't it? :p hehe cool

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I can't play the test videos (the ones where you show what you have already done from the TAS). I don't know which program you have to have to play them, and I would really like to see them. I tried checking the FAQ, but I don't think it was on there (I might be wrong though). Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site. Yeah the first three lines of that page are what's important. By the way that is linked from the faq, in the emulator section. It's all there.

When flying towards the red cap star, would it not be quicker to land quickly then do a jump flip towards the star?
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs
