I was being completely facetious. There's quite a few games on the N64 that I would like to see TAS'd.
Mischief Makers
Starfox 64
Banjo Kazooie
Gauntlet Legends
Blast Corps
Both of these are in hard to TAS Catagories...racing and fighting games have a bad history of being very unentertaining.
I'm sciencing as fast as I can !

AKA said something about the DDD trigger probably extending all the way around the BitFS entrance, however this is not true ... using hyperspeed it is indeed possible to make it past the trigger, which conveniently stops shortly before the entrance, here is a PJ64 savestate of Mario past the trigger. However it would take significantly more BLJs to achieve the kind of speed needed to bypass the trigger, but don't count out a 0 star run just yet.
This is why I think a glitchless any% run would be the best third category. A BLJ-less run that abuses other glitches seems kinda arbitrary.
Glitchless any% will depend a lot on route planning. It'll have to actually fulfill route requirements for regular play. Any% also makes sure slow/boring stars/worlds are skipped out of route planning.
but glitchless is more vague than BLJ-less which is at least very specific and does a good job of making it a 70-star run, jeez. the game has tons of glitches and who's to say what is and what isn't one. Is walking on fences a glitch? Is being able to wallkick up that area where balls fall in BOB a glitch? Is avoiding the wind in the final area of bowser 3 a glitch? is longjumping on the edge of the upper lava level of BitFS a glitch? How about grabbing bowser's tail as he's being kocked back in bowser3. Or diving or ledge-grabbing to avoid being hurt after a long fall? You don't want these things not in a 70-star tas? BLJ-less only means no BLJ-induced hyperspeed, nothing more, nothing less. (I'm with mukki)
also...

Even this definition poses problems, for example in CCM when you get the "wall kicks will work" star you have to do a long jump and then pull back, would that count as a BLJ or are you going to revise the definition so only BLJs that increase speed are not allowed?
You don't jump backwards there... you just happen to be moving in reverse by the end. i.e. no long jumps are made starting backwards.

Just note that a star you can get coinless should be the last one you collect on each floor of the castle. For example, Peach's Slide works great as a last star for the lobby.
why? coins in levels don't waste time unless you get more than around 50 or whatever. mario always has to take off his hat and brush his mustache.
Anyway, isn't it possible to be directly below the star when you're done with the king, or is it faster to stay in place, wait for the text, and then go to the star?

How exactly?
Don't use the BLJ hyperspeed glitch. End of.
That's one thing that really gets me. That whenever something new or interesting is suggested the word 'arbitrary' is thrown at it and it never gets anywhere. I can't help but feel that because of it we're missing out on many inventive and unique movies.
No BLJ hyperspeed sounds great to me as a 'non-severe glitch run', everything else is fair game in my opinion.

Thats interesting, although as you said its nowhere near possible to get that much speed on the step to bypass the entrance zone.
I think some BLJs just give out after a while of BLJing, no matter how hard you try. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBLI0qIoNEE&mode=related&search=
As for getting the star for the first BoB star, that was redone.
EDIT: I think the reason a BLJless run is better than a completely glitchless run is that BLJ's are unique; it's basically the only glitch that allows you to skip entire levels (and beat the game REALLY early). Like BkDJ said, a completely glitchless run would be too confusing because of what constitutes as a glitch. Killing boos when they're still behind a wall, grabbing Bowser's tail early, and even butt stomping through King Whomp would all be gone...that would make for a pretty bad run, and someone would still find glitches accidentally used that no one even noticed.
meh meh the 1 star run was awesome yes but the 120 one could be bljed more or? i want to see that!
to the all coin or the ccc less stuff, i never thought i would say it but : i did not like to watch any of the wips / tases from that kind they were just to borring i dont know :(
Maybe a no-BLJ-in-the-overworld run? That is I guess more arbitrary than no-BLJ but it will still mean getting 70 stars to beat the game (probably).
In other news I found a new small glitch: mario faces the wrong way for part of the butt-stomp during a cartwheel jump! Surely thats almost as exploitable as the lobby glitch?
This signature is much better than its previous version.
Wow. This makes me extremely happy. I'd always hoped someone would find a BLJ location in the basement.
From initially having to get 70 stars minimum to beat the game, it's come down to 1 using insane glitches. What an achievement.
Absolutely excellent job guys.
Thankyou for making me happy.

I kinda doubt it.
If you are starting with the rout used in the SDA run, I think that there are several stars he skipped that would be faster then some of the others.
Most notably, he skips both vanish cap and the star inside the igloo in that later snow level. getting those 2 might be better then going to BBH. Also, some of the stars in dire dire docks might be worth the time, most notably into the jetstream.
Yep, I've just finished planning out all 70 stars and the routes that I'll take around the castle. BBH and VCUtM are still out, but more DDD and WDW are in.
Basically, no star that I get is over 50 seconds non-TASed, and the vast majority are under 30 seconds.

The stars within the courses might be a little more random, but that's basically it. As strange as it seems, AKA and I deduced that the 100 coin stars are faster than those they replace, making every star under 45 seconds.

This is quite an arbitrary goal. Please tell me how this will differ from the 120 star run? Recall that even the CCCless run was not well-received (though I really enjoyed it). I don't think a 70 star run is worth doing, especially when the 120 star could use a new run.

I agree. It would be more worthwhile to start work on a new 120 star run than to do a 70 star run. With the ability to beat the game with only 1 star, this is essentially moot.
