There is actually a more clear cut method than that, but you succeeded regardless.
Good job keeping it a secret, halting the run's progress.

How was it a secret? When about 3-4 people already know it.

Of the top of my head, maybe for (together with swordless) actually making a 1 and a 0 star run possible... But that's small potatoes compared to a slightly faster BLJ right?

Seriously, are you kidding me? You purposedly kept a TASing trick from people who were about to improve your run. You are no better than Saturn dammit.

lolbowserdanceandfixingit Anyway, now thats over with, i agree with Soulrivers, what was the point in holding it back? I know you HATE SS and all that, but you know they were going to find something out sooner or later......... Anyway, i think this argument is a total waste of energy, while people could be getting on with their runs...

If we could somehow load save file 5, we would start the game with the first key, so we wouldn't have to fight bowser one. The downside would be that you start without a cap.

there's 4 save files, 5 is a glitched one it seems, but it's (probably) impossible to load without cheating

Well, when starting the game it already loads all 4 save files. This is how their respective star counts get displayed. When you pick one save file, the game sets a 'pointer' to one of those 4 blocks of data that are your saved files. If we could set that pointer to what would be the 5th block of data (save file 5) the game would think that random data is your selected save file. And on a clear rom that already gets you the key to the basement. I have no idea yet if or how we could do that though. Edit: What z0MG says.

I don't know what you're saying but I'm not even the author of the current run. I don't see how this compares to a Saturn situation, since I've showed 10's of tricks and glitches across various different games.

but I'm not even the author of the current run. Yes, but you have the information we needed at the time and boasted about knowing it and you lied about HOW to do it to waste even more time. (not that we fell for it.)

...he wasn't lying. Altering the approach to the castle DOES change the manipulation. Of the top of my head, maybe for (together with swordless) actually making a 1 and a 0 star run possible... But that's small potatoes compared to a slightly faster BLJ right? Of course. Actually discovering how to rape the game is NOTHING compared to a 3 frame improvement! We've seen this by how proud it makes them to be able to save 2 frames on a BLJ.

save 2 frames on a BLJ. Yeah, it was 2 frames until I redid it after seeing your 0 star with Brian.

...I'm not working on a 0 star. I've lost interest in TASing this game now.

I started a m64 with him to see if we could beat 1812 on the castle door. That hardly constitutes a 0 star run.

Oh, and about that key door thing, I remember that once the first key door did open the upper lobby, but it was graphically bugged. So it may be possible to do something about it.
What?

Well, I guess I was confused about the filename being "Brian and SL 0 star TAS" or something like that and it continued past the doorway a bit. I believe it also had the description "Sub 5:39" or something, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I also find it funny that you started a .m64 with him just to do the lakitu skip... You keep saying it's pathetic that people do runs together on youtube, small ones that is, yet you did something lasting ~5 seconds? But I suppose all of that means absolutely nothing and it was bounded from going past the castle door. *ahem*

The idea was to get lower than 1812 then hex the rest of my 16 star run into that. I don't see what the problem is. We weren't going to put it on YouTube, or make it public in any way. It was essentially a test. There's nothing wrong with two people trying to do something in the same m64. That is NOT the same as two people coauthoring a 10 second star. There's a difference (not that you'll be able to tell that). Just finish the run. You're boring me now.

Wasn't it possible to manipulate luck by changing the input on the unused frames (is SM64 one of those 30 FPS games?) in this game? Or do I remember a different game?
The only unused frames are during cutscenes (door transitions, dialogs, etc) because input is actually only polled at 30fps. (i.e. fastest autofire is 15Hz)

To SS: You think you're the only one that can fool around with me? What I sent you was something I was working on, SL knew about, and right when I was to send it to you I changed the filename, the description, and everything I did this to see if you were actually enough trustworthy...and it seems I shouldn't be regretting for anything I also, never stated that me and sl were working on a 0 star run (very positive about that), and I know you concluded that by the whole confusion you got trying to associate the situation with the file's name Indeed, me and sl though that a frame can be saved while entering the room in hmc a frame earlier, which eventually brought us trying to save that frame entering the castle
