I took off 3 more frames with the aid of bobmario511 and his amazing BLJing skills. But I'm probably not going to upload it to YouTube.

Yeah, wait till you're sure you can't save any more frames and then upload

Might be old (but it was uploaded today) found it on Youtube done by ReneBalow. (TAS) Blast to the Stone Pillar 9"3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6SifEPgfx8 The Japanese (NTSC-J) version has the advantage on this star because the ! Box doesn't exist. * Makes me wonder if someone has made a Changes FAQ/List between the Japanese and the Western releases.

I also believe the metal box is closer (not sure) and I know for a fact that the outline of the painting is blue in the J version (instead of yellow).

I have read that the Shindou edition (rumble pack version only released in Japan) has fixed framerate issues in several spots and improved some textures. I bought the game recently but am only about 10 stars in. So far I haven't noticed any of the above, but does anyone know if it is true? If so, perhaps it would be a good reason to switch ROMs...

Well the start of the game is 2 seconds faster because there isn't peach talking.

These differences don't warrant a version change. There has to be a glitch which is exclusive to the J version to justify switching.

If framerate is improved in numerous places, I would think that it warrants a version change. To me, that would be similar to improved music. Are there other known differences in the actual gameplay?

Does that work in the Shindou (Rumble) version?

I disagree "Mitjitsu". If, the JAPAN rom really is faster, then, it is a good idea, to change rom. The 2 seconds of Peach, are not in the same "level of magnitude" of the improvements, of this run. I agree, it is a bad idea to use the JAPAN rom, for the 0-stars run, because 2 seconds are comparable, in the framewar. But, I think, there will be minutes and minutes of faster improvements, than the existing version, for 120-stars. So it's, a drip in the sea, and the star without yellow box, and the ghosts, and so on, it is a good idea, to change. Keep up, the good work. sonicpacker, I see your video, on Youtube. You are good =]

It's explicitly in the rules that time savings that only come from things like faster text are not sufficient justification to switch languages. Also, wow, please cut down on the commas.

I am so sorry about that and from now I will not use any more commas. By the way I have something important to report although not relevant to the current discussion. In the encode for "1197M" movie there is something wrong at 1026 in the bottom right side that looks like a rain cloud as you can see here <img src="C\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Michael\Desktop\snapshot20100225152153.bmp">

I'm sorry to break this to you, but we all don't have access to your German language Windows XP installation on your computer's C drive to read the image from. The link is broken. Not to mention that linking to/embedding BMP files is a bad idea. Convert them to PNG or JPEG format first. On a more helpful tangent, try Photoshack or something like that. The Youtube version of that movie looks just fine btw.

Aww, that's a nasty failure from the part of the encoder. Luckily its impact is small as it only affects the ending demo here. But it's the exact reason why I used a second screen for the N64 encodes. Unexpected popups usually occur on the first screen only. Usually. (Anyone wonder why I prefer simple desktops over complex ones like Gnome or KDE?)

While we're on the subject, I know of 2 movies for which the encode has a deficiency at the very start: SMW (all exits) 1:21:29.63 by Fabian, and SM64 any% 5:39 by Swordless Link.

Anyone care to (somewhen) make a freerunish TAS through the whole game? Maybe beating it with like 16 stars? I'm sure it'd rock everybody's socks if it was up to par in quality with what I've just seen. ^^

Regarding the 120 Star TAS, here is the best route I could come up with (by myself) that has JRB after the Metal Cap, and doesn't mess up MIPS 2: *Lakitu Skip* Bowser in the Dark World + Red Coins (1) *Side BLJ to PSS* The Princess' Secret Slide (2) Whomp's Fortress (9) The Princess' Secret Slide Sub 21' (10) Cool, Cool, Mountain (17) Tower of the Wing Cap + Red Coins (18) The Secret Aquarium (19) Bob-Omb Battlefield (26) *Side BLJ on BoB stairs to Key Door* *Side BLJ to SSL* Shifting Sand Land (33) MIPS 1 (34) Toads First Secret Star (35) Hazy Maze Cave (42) Cavern of the Metal Cap + Red Coins (43) Lethal Lava Land (50) MIPS 2 (51) *Side BLJ towards pillars and pound them* *Get to DDD Stairs* *Side BLJ past DDD* Bowser in the Fire Sea + Red Coins (52) Dire, Dire, Docks (59) *Leave Lobby* Vanish Cap Under the Moat + Red Coins (60) *Exit Course to Lobby* *(Side?)BLJ to Courtyard* Big Boo's Haunt (67) *Get into Lobby Pillar* *BLJ to JRB Room* Jolly Roger Bay (74) *Enter TSA* *Exit Course* *Get to Tower Key Door* Wet-Dry World (81) *Side BLJ to SL* Snowman's Land (88) *Side BLJ to Toad outside of TTM* Toad 2 (89) Tall, Tall, Mountain (96) Tiny-Huge Island (103) Winged Mario Over the Rainbow (104) Tick-Tock Clock (111) Toad 3 (112) Rainbow Ride (119) Bowser in the Sky + Red Coins (120) (I tried not to include obvious things like BLJ to WF or CCM.) Criticism is appreciated.
