ALAKTORN, the goal of getting to the pole as fast as possible is somewhat artificial. Since one can only actually grab the star AFTER Koopa gets there in like 80-90 seconds, this star is coupled with the 100 coin star. There is a bit of a problem that Koopa seems to have variable speed based on where Mario is on the map, and I don't think anyone has definitively solved that yet. I think there does exist a run that BLJs/flies there in a few seconds, if that is what you're really interested in.

well I'm interested in seeing the fastest possible time the game aknowledges as legit (which I consider it giving you the star)

This is the fastest completion I can remember, but I'm sure there is faster knowing how this game constantly gets improved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEnmg0WRAaw You can collect the star from doing this, but it is not worth it in a real run as setting it up takes to much time.

I think it might be cool to append a better optimized TAS of this as a kind of bonus footage to the 120 star TAS, which I'm sure will be finished somewhen during the next few years. Kind of goes against this site's usual policies, but I know I would like to see that.

Cruiser Crossing The Rainbow (TAS) 15"53 is this WR?
I think this was the previous record (with old timing). So my guess is yes.

Can we finally set a time limit on current individual star records, as I've suggested before, and get a 120 star TAS under way? I propose a Dec 31st time limit, any current records before that date should be included, and only updated if possible during the actual TASing. The eternal quest for perfection is noble, but does not matter in the long run. Get a run out, improvements can be added in a new version next time.

No one really has an obligation to make the run, and it could be frustrating to put so much effort into the run while it can still be obsoleted by such lengths. The way I see it, you are just projecting your impatience onto the authors because of your want for instant gratification. Any run that gets created to some measure of optimality from some previous point in time will almost surely be accepted by the site, but it is more important that the authors are satisfied with the run they produce. I think it is out of line for you to tell people they should get it over with and start the run. You can request whatever you want, but when you phrase it in the light of "hurry up and get it over with already", I find that to be rude.

Is there a place where TASers keep record on what the current best times for each star are? Last time I checked, there was such a page on an external forum, but it never seemed to be up to date. Isn't it possible to abuse this site's wiki pages for that porpuse? I think that would make sense as it seems that most of the new records get posted in this thread at some point in time anyway. My hope is that being able to view all the current best times one after another in a very convinient way would make the wait for the final run a lot easier. I am always interested in new SM64 improvements and try to keep always up to date with them by monitoring this thread. It may be due to that that I'm personally not particularly looking forward to a finished run, as I'd have seen most of the strategies anyway already. I think having a neat wiki-page where one could browse through the current best times would minimize complaints and maybe eliminate that very strange idea that somebody "finally" needs to do a suboptimal 120 stars TAS "now". I know I wouldn't be very motivated to do that, especially if I knew there's a team of Japanese TASers trying to produce such a run at the same time. It would just amount to a lot of work with very little reward.

When this was asked the last time, this is what I said:

Regardless of all of the discussion of hexing, is someone making a collection of TAS WRs for each star?
Records used to be listed here, but that list is extremely outdated by now. It was meant to be replaced by this, but there are lots of gaps in it.
Sadly it is not updated yet.

This is where all the records are being held, for now.

2011, right?
No, this year. We have time to compile a list of the currently known records for all 120 stars, and then try and match those into a full game TAS. Of course, some are entirely hexable so that's half the work done. The sooner you get started, the sooner a 120 star TAS can hit the workbench.
