Yeah. I was really surprised when I saw it. Is anyone currently working on a Minimal A press TAS of this game? Obviously, you have to press the A button sometimes to get 70 stars, but I wonder how optimal it could be? I tried this on a real console, and I have a little over 30 stars while never pressing the A button more than once per level. Most of the time I didn't even press it at all. I think it would make a great TAS.

it isn't possible to finish game, because getting to bowser pipe is impossible

I was talking about a minimal A-press TAS. Beating the game while pressing A as few times as possible. There are a lot of stars you can get while only pressing A once. I'm really interested in how low it can be.

I don't think I ever finished calculating it, but I vaguely remember calculating that doing a 16 star run (using the fastest 0 press stars) to Bowser 2 followed by BLJing on the stairs outside the 50 star door with a wallkick trick similar to the published 0 star run might be less presses than a 70 star run that doesn't BLJ. Again, records have changed since I looked into this but this may be the route if someone is interested in seeing the least presses needed to beat the game.

Unless it was a "Jumpless/No A Button" run that changes the route significantly similar to the SMB walkathon.

NEVER say anything is impossible. At tasvideos, impossible things happen all the time! Who would have believed ten years ago that you could beat SM64 with zero stars, or finish OoT as Child Link, or get Pokemon Yellow to write and run your own computer programs? But these things have all been done.

Oh my goodness the range of movement options in Get A Hand is so good. This is as delightful as the no-A-button stars, and I do not say that lightly.

I thought the intended route for that star was to go round on the rotating cubes, rather than up via the red coin platforms; it seems that the designers intended the "Get a Hand" star to be inaccessible with time stopped, and the red coin platforms to be inaccessible with time moving.
