Very well said, I completely agree with you. I was just giving some examples of where you can BLJ... I know there aren't a fixed amount of places. I'm finding more every day; I even hound one in JRB. Anyway, someone suggested to me that I show you the Lobby Glitch, because you said you were doing a 16-star run after this. Hopefully you can try it out a little. EDIT: One of the guys on the GameFAQs board is testing out BLJing with the Lobby Glitch, and he says... "Ok now ive gotten into the little bump by the toad, into JRB aquarium, into key door #1 and #2 castle court yard many times and the entry way to the castle and outside, it is definite with TAS you can get into bowser and thus get into the basement with 0 stars" So, if you use this in your 16-star run, not only could you get to Bowser quickly and before 8 stars, you could get anywhere else in the lobby with zero stars and no opening door sequence.

but then that would mean he won't make a 16-star run! funny how that works, no?

So does this mean you can beat the game with 0 stars or that you can enter any level with 0 stars?

Nah, you still need 15 stars to get MIPS and get into Bowser 2, but it does mean you can get into BoB, WF, JRB (I know you can already), CCM, PSS, B1, HMC, CotMC, VCUtM, LLL, and SSL right from the start. Now that you have such a great variety of stars to choose from, the next 16-star TAS would be a lot faster.

Did anybody know about this 16 stars TAS? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3563292723648658371&q=mario+64 It beats the game in 16:07 and improves many "mistakes" of the previous run. But why isn't it posted in this site?

If it wasn't submitted to this site, it wouldnt have been hosted here. Also, it's more of the same as spezaffer's run, but with the necessary improvements.

It seems to be exactly the same as Spazzafer's run, it just adds in the new tactics from FODA's run. It wouldn't have been posted here because whoever made this knows that it merely imatates the work of two author's on this site. Well, that's what i think... EDIT -- It also has a link to this site beside the video.

The link is dated, though, which makes me question whether or not the author is a member here or not.

It's true that it's a merger of the techniques in the two videos (though the camera choices aren't as good as FODA's), but it is an improvement to the existing run. If this was submitted, I would give it a Yes vote. Certainly the best (and possibly the only) TAS I've ever seen that wasn't from this site.

I would also give it a yes vote, you'd have to., you'd be rejecting most movies if you failed this. However, i suspect most would leave the 16-star run to FODA, although there is no such thing in this site as 'reserving' games it seems right to do so in this situation out of respect. The differences are directly out of his TAS.

I don't think what FODA is doing is just his ideas, the route for 16 stars is going to be almost exactly the same even if someone else does it because it is what most would perseve and believe is fastest. There really isn't that much choice in it, just different techniques.

Unless a superior run is already in progress, I don't see the point in waiting. It's pointless to publish a movie that's going to be obsoleted in a day or two, but I don't see the need to wait if it's still going to be a while. Unless FODA says otherwise, a new 16 star run isn't coming until the 120 star run is finished, and it still has several levels to go.

I think the improvements in that run are good enough that it should be submitted here, some of it is FODA's methods of improvement but some are his own small increases in speed

Amazingly, the movie was posted over a month ago! Mix in the fact that it takes some time to make a quality run like that, and it becomes obvious that the run wasn't made after a lot of other techniques/improvements could be found. Therefore, to judge that movie (which is at least 2 months old) for not having techniques that were discovered within the last 2 months is a bad idea.

I didn't know that it was made 2 months ago, but the first 1/2 looked very similar to FODA's stars in his 120

Amazingly, the beginning to every Mario game looks very similar. Optimizing is more important than having a personal style.

I have to admit I would have voted no to the unsubmitted TAS on google because it doesn't incorparate all the best strategies that the TASer would have learned from watching FODA's run. On the current knowledge everything after the first 8 stars would remain exactly the same. The current route would probally be 1. Chain chomp stat using elavator glitch 2. KBO on top of Summit using elavator glitch 3. Star on floating island using elavator glitch 4. Wompa star 5. Star at the top of lifts in WF 6. Owl star in caged island 7. seam dive to get star near cannon 8. Glitch to get star in blast away the wall R_Z, so thats how I did the lobby glitch and it also make sence as to why I couldn't replicate once I performed it, there is definitley enough space to do a BLJ in that area. I also found the endless head bashing in the wall area at the end. If you go to the optosite there is also an area where you can get trapped near the star door, but I can get any LJ''s on the blue slope but that would definitley be a prefered place if I'm able to get it BLJ's. Although I'm absolutely convinced you'd be able to hit the collision area where the first bowser area is, but how does that affect the route. If anyone could provide a save state on Mupen with the lobby glitch already performed so I could test out all the range of possibiltes I could do with the BLJ's.

Here's one from the right side and one from the left side Recorded in Mupen 0.5.1, I don't know if that makes a difference

I did a lot of testing and the lobby glitch is TAS exclusive on so many levels. There is just the bare minimum amount of room to LJ at the right angle and I had a hellish time trying to get to the postion I got to, here's what happens when you glitch through the key door in the lobby and here is the more practical use for it, I don't know how much time the second video actually saves although it must be around about a minute and how will is affect the new route. I was able to at will go to any point I wanted in the lobby including the basement key door and the back garden where the boo's are. Its got to rank as one of the best SM64 finds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX62_wF48Ac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1fNwSGT0bA

Wow Great job! Though it would be better if you had shown from where you started BLJ. Can you do a video starting from that? Haha.. now if you can get into Bowser 2 without MIPS the 1 star run is possible!

Holy crap, you did it... You did it... You got into Bowser with zero stars... History has been made... Congratulations as the first person to do it! Yes, I'd have to agree, this is probably the hardest glitch to do in SM64 so far (Wish I could've found something major, but simple, like getting to the top of the castle starless). It's even hard to get BLJing without going outside the pillar. And once you do that, you gotta TAS to aim. Nevertheless, it opens up an incredibly wide range of possibilities for new TASs...

Console players never cease to surprise me. If someone gets into bowser 2 Im sure Ill see a 1 star run on SDA. By then the run will be pretty short and you would only need 1. Lakitu skip 2. Lobby glitch 3. BLJ into B1 4. B1 5. Unknown method to get into B2 6. B2 7. stair BLJing into B3 8. B3 The glitches are low probability but the game becomes much shorter making a few hundred attempts more managable.

If anyone wants to see what they can do with BLJ, then here is a fully reved up save state, now you'll understand how hard I found it to angle Mario on the middle stair way have fun. http://rapidshare.de/files/36976592/Super_Mario_64__U_____.st8.html
