Yup, hit start, go down twice to the last option, and go left.

I guess I could set it into fixed camera mode when I need to pause and exit the bowser world.

For the least stars run i'd go for whatever is fastest. That's the frame shaving run you're TASing there...

FODA, when did you switch the camera into fixed mode? Because the camera starts off as Lakitu/Mario when you start the game off...

I've been thinking about the extra stars in the basement and there is a few that come to mind. 1. Four pillars in SSL and then get the one inside the pyramid (not the boss) 2. Beat the bulles in LLL 3. Beat the bullies #2 in LLL 4. Log star in LLL 5. Ness star in HMC. I personally think its best to go right at the start so you can avoid waiting for the lift to come down.

Inside the Ancient Pyramid: If you don't get the Koopa shell, this could be a possibility; if you use the edge of the pyramid and long jumps to go to the pillars, it would be fairly fast... But I wouldn't recommend it, because I thought one of the features that would optimize the run would be not running all around the castle. Boil the Bully: That could easily work.... Bully the Bullies: Ehh...starting to get a little slow. Rolling Log: A nice idea, but impossible since you don't have the wing cap, and going the normal way is, of course, way too slow. Sea Monster: Sorta slow, but a possibility... It's much slower than the Bullies, though.

Check these records for your plan: http://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cbright/sm64/startimescomp.html This may give you a clue which stars can be made faster. P.S.Bully the Bullies is only 27 seconds on a real console. TAS'ed probably faster. What is the limit for your stars? Because I think it is one of the fastest stars in the basement.

You can measure the bullies time from the TAS. As a matter of fact, don't you think that every star in the 120 stars TAS that is a close enough candidate for the 16 star run should be timed before assuming things?

The problem with these times are that many of them require speacial setups which aren't feasible in a run. Eg caps or pre-opened cannons.

oh yea there was that, but it wasn't used on any fast star, just the 100 coin and 8 red coins (the shoot to the island in the sky can be done in the exact same time by zipping up the mountain without using the cannon). AKA: filim0nas' link have a bigger problem: they aren't TAS.

Filimimona? Anyway, I strongly agree with timing the stars from the 120-star TAS... I think FODA has achieved the fastest times on just about every star so far, so it would be wise to use his times as examples.

Since there is no timing for seperate stars fron the TAS, this site could be of assistance at the beginning. Most of the stars are quite optimised by the way.

Would it be possible to summarize FODA's times from BoB, WF, CCM, SSL, LLL and HMC.

I think somebody did that for a few of the levels earlier in this thread... EDIT: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=67813&highlight=mario++star+times#67813

guys... just watch it and take notes of the frames when mario is in front of the painting before entering the level to the frame in front of the painting after going out of the level... it shouldn't take longer than an hour.

But he said your Chip Off Whomps Block is 32 seconds but a normal time was 30 seconds...?

Is their any hacks or cheats that would allow me to check if mario can get to Bowser#2 from the invisble water in the oposiste room.

FODA, how is the 120 star run going? Many people have asked, and it seems that you're sort of reluctant to say. If you restart the TAS now (assuming you haven't already been doing it without telling us), and AKA continues to work on the 16 star run, it seems like they might come out at around the same time. If that would happen, I'm predicting the two runs might steal some publicity and interest from each other. Thoughts?

If i restart the run now... what? that'd take another year. I've been busy with real work lately.

I guess the 120 star run would take roughly 2-3 months to complete from now which is probally about the same time I'd take to do the 16 star, since it will be fully expected that I optimize every frame available. I've started from scratch on the Bowser stage now that everything I do is compared to FODA's run. I can get the first red coin 3 frames faster but I can never turn fast enough in order to dive back to the main walkway. I've aproximatley spent 1.5 rerecords for every frame of input on screen. BTW I checked to see if the text telling you if you that you can open the next star is avoided and it isn't.

That's exactly what I'm talking about... They might interfere with each other. People might confuse them, or, for example, not be as impressed at one after they've seen another. For example, someone may watch the 120-star run first, and then he may not be interested in the 16-star run. Which is wrong.
