To all the people arguing over whether doing the lobby glitch is worth it for Bowser#1 then here's something that'll help your judgement, of course its very hard to get the comparison exact, but it takes into consideration the "whoa you got a star" text. The one on the left is mine, the one on the right is the 16:07, and our times for Bowser#1 are very close. http://files.filefront.com/compareavi/;6139580;;/fileinfo.html

Here's my CCM WIP, I made a 3 frame improvement over the penguin star becuase it was closer and no improvment on the wall kicks star, I'm just going to WF, the normal way so I could time it and I reckon it take 19 seconds normally. Now considering it took me 13 seconds to get to bowser from the main lobby door, I don't think there is any question of not using the Lobby glitch, its literallly going to take me 8-10 seconds to do and it takes six seconds to re-enter and quit a normal paint world, so its lobby glitch for the win. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2584/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64

Looks very good, but it seemed to me like when you were going for the second star in BBB, you entered the painting at an angle? PS: I am amazed at how you know so much about zelda and making TASes.

I'd watch more WIPs if you'd provide save states.. I made one myself but I guess you redid a part before where I made it, since when I load it, Mario doesn't do anything TAS-like.

It's great to hear something definitive on this after all the discussion :)

I've now entered WF using the lobby glitch and its took about 8 seconds to do, so overall it saves about 5 seconds.

What are your expectations for the final time? Since the other TAS was 16:07 and new tricks have been discovered since then I'm guessing 15:40-15:50

You're more or less correct I'd say at the moment the minimal expected time is 15:52. EDIT: Silent Slayers method for ascending WF is a good second slower, so it'll be the tradional method. I've tried all weekend on a console to so the Cage star without the Cannon/Owl or Whowp but I can't quite seem to get it. Is it possible to do it with a sideflip?

If you're talking about the Triple Jump + Wall Kick method, then I think so. You can reach the cage and do a wall kick off of it after you sideflip towards it. I haven't been able to get enough backwards momentum to land in the cage though.

If you're using a triple jump + wall kick to get the star, you want to wall kick off the side (on the left) that's slanted slightly away, so you don't get so much momentum off the kick. When I did it, I had to push the control stick all the way down in order for Mario to land in the cage. However, one time I managed to make Mario land directly on the star after the wall kick, but that was just luck. I couldn't ever do it again.

This is just a test run on the Cage Star its over 4 seconds faster than the owl which is amazing considering how unoptimized it is. I've found out the secret behind it and that is that Mario must hit the seams of the cage at a very finite angle so that he faces perpindicular to the cage as opposed to paraell, which is what normally should happen, it should be possible with a sideflip, which would save at least 2 seconds. Although I wasn't able to land directly on the star. I had to pause for a while otherwise Mario would shoot a mile up in the air after collecting the star. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2617/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 I'm now almost guaranteed to be 20 seconds faster than the 16:07. EDIT: Here's a video I made of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnWbX-gYjCU

Looks pretty good, and I know it's unoptimized, but one suggestion is to wall kick at a particular angle so you land on the far side of the green platform, so you don't have to run back in order to get enough space for the triple jump.

That was beautiful and it wasn't even optimized? very nice.

This is going to be amazing when the whole run is finished, what you have already is quite good. shaving this much time off of a movie that was already so well done is quite an accomplishment.

You definitely got into that painting in a hurry. I was already convinced.

looking very good, except for that angled jump into CCM painting. why was is worth it to do the lobby glitch to enter WF but not CCM?

OK, I've done the cage star and its over 1 and half seconds quicker so overall its about 5.667 seconds faster than the owl. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2627/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 Now I'll move on to "Blast away the wall star". EDIT: FODA, can you give me some tips on the star mentioned above, I can't seem to grab the invisble ledge. EDIT_2:

To be worth it I'd have to be >6 seconds quicker as thats the amount of time it takes to gain control in a world and exit. I'd need to travel a little a further to activate the lobby glitch and I would need to waste time in using the lobby glitch on the right or waste more time in monovering to CCM via the left side. Overall it would take about 14 seconds getting to the door to CCM, entering the painting and exiting normally. It would take about 9-10 seconds to enter the paint world and another six to exit so it would be aproximatley waste 1-2 seconds using the lobby glitch, whie for WF it takes time to reach the door and slightly longer once you've gained control afterwards as well as exiting the place. Of course if you or anyone else feels what I've said is wrong you're more than entitled to have a go once I've finished the run. FODA, whats your idea for the 16 star route.

the ledge is not invisible, it's there, but there's a triangle block completing the wall so it looks... complete. You need to grab the seam. It's hard, i would say if you can't get it go back a little more and do the jump at a different angle.

I just looked at sm64.com fastest star times, the first star on the slide on CCM takes 26 seconds non-tas, so maybe it could be 25-24 inplace of whomp? which takes like 29-30 Just a thought, maybe im not thinking right...

I'm doing beat the bully, although I should have timed both of FODA's times on the slide and the BtB star, although BtB star should be faster as you don't go through transitional scenes.

Yes, You're right, is there any other stars you can take place off though or are you totally planned now?

The route I'm using is on the previous page. (I think) EDIT: Just want to say that I've done WF, which is the hardest overall paint world to do, I'll upload once I've reached SSL.

Here's my WIP, it ends in LLL, becuase I realised it slower to go the SSL first, because of the sharp 180 bend. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2651/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 I not as fast as I first thought, I'm 42 seconds ahead of the 16:07 at the moment minus however long it takes to get the BtB star.
