A lot of these hardware limitations are designed into the game arent they? Like the NES can only display so many sprites in a horizontal line and so when this happens a game must blink a few of them off in different frames. Even if you remove the hardware restriction the game is still programmed to do that. This topic might be getting a little off-topic though. And glad you made your way here Curtis! Big fan of the site.

Quick update done Bowser#2 with a 33 frame improvement (although I think I've spotted a way to knock off even more time) and 1.08 secs faster, the end in nearing and yes its faster than the 16:07 as well.

Do you think the lag effect would apply at the 3rd bowser stage? There are a few places where making the camera face Mario sideways would could make the game run a bit faster.

or maybe facing towards Mario... I wonder if rendering graphics as getting smaller the more Mario comes towards the screen is easier than drawing up-coming objects bigger the closer mario gets to them... I'm sure whatever camera angles are used will minimize any lag, but I guess we'll see when it comes.

It would depend on whether it is more graphics-intensive to have a small object blow up in size or a large object shrink as Mario runs.

I really don't know, it's why I'm asking. I guess it's moot since both AKA and FODA know how to minimize lag with camera angles in the laggy levels they're playing.

Objects are made of triangles. There are only 2 versions levels of detail for each model in Mario 64, as far as i can tell. Basically, you want to have as few triangles on the screen at possible at one time.

On CCM Wall kicks will work you can jump dive at the beginning so that u take no damage no matter how far u fall and then u can do the rest from there, ive tested its faster i dunno if u can hex-edit that but anyways its really fast

Won't you either get stuck in the ground or take massive amounts of damage? Can the dive move even be turned from forwards to backwards motion? Also, "you", not "u". If you're too busy to fully spell out such a simple word, expect others to be too busy to respond to you.

Zurreco, it's a known strategy, i use it quite a few times in my run. No, mario doesn't get stuck or get hurt from falling, but you need to dive at the ground and then roll, and fall after that roll. Thinking about it, i wouldn't be sure that it was faster, but since you're saying it is, then it must be.

I find that tactic hard to visualise as being faster, but I'll take your word for it, but I don't think it'll save that much time, since that star only takes 10 seconds to get anyway.

Well, maybe in TAS land its slower but for SDA i beat the record by 1 second by getting 11... My bad. the thing about that strat is that you dont have to grab ledge which is far better, but you do have to turn 180 degrees. If you did manage to get 10 seconds then good friggin job i had no idea you did it so fast

I'm not aware that SDA has individual star records

He might be refering to SM64.com, but I don't know what methods are used to time stars, plus it finishes timing when the star is collected and not when Mario is in his stance position as I normally would time.

because I done this out of fun. i found the video of Mario 64 from Spezzafer on a Zelda fanpage and i was so amazed about this movie that i had decided to make a video too. The first movie was much slower. Then I made a second movie with the glitches from FODA and the way from Spezzafer and anyhow came this video there out.

But many of the strategy's shown in your run were visually much quicker than his, I've even borrowed a few strategys from your run, the bit I admire most is how well all the bowser stages were executed, for example you did bowser#3 3 seconds quicker overall. Although now its pointless to submit it now since I'm on Bowser 3 now and I'm ahead by a sizable margin. EDIT: Out of interest how many re-records did you take?
