I don't actually let go of Z to pick up the boss, there is a period after long jump where hitting A will punch even if you are holding Z! (Hah!) Also I don't believe you can use the cannons until after you get the first start? However it's possible that I am just terrible.

should I feel dirty that I laughed all the way through the crawling first star? It was really funny. If nothing else, I'd *love* to see this game completed that way. It'd be extremely entertaining for me.

Hmm, maybe I my last post wasn't really clear. For a 70 star run I think it would be best to do it like Foda said: 1 - doesn't use the BLJ glitch 2 - completes the game as fast as possible 3 - abuses other programming errors 4 - manipulates luck But also that you enter all doors the way Nintendo think you should. That would really be the best way to describe it I think, that you "enter all doors the way Nintendo think you should", or no glitching through doors.

Correct, the cannons aren't available until you pick up the first star.

Nah, I am going to use the BLJ glitch, even in the Lobby, but I now agree that there isn't much need for a 70 star run. I'm still going to do it, but purely for fun.

I watched the cawling run, and was laughing. submitable? not sure. bemusing? DEFINETLY it also taught me a few things about crawling, namely thatyou can climb up steep slopes.

It would be funny if the holding Z run ended up faster then the SDA time. but the nagain, there isnt really a chance in hell of that.

I strongly support BoltR's crawling Mario TAS... Anyway, I think I stumbled upon something fairly major while experimenting for the first star...I think I was going so fast that I somehow confused the power meter. I can walk around and do whatever I want, including exiting the course and going into other courses. What I found to be pretty important about this was that Mario could take as much damage as he wanted, and continue to have the same power meter. I was walking around in the Lobby with it, and it suddenly disappeared. Then I tried losing some power, and the same empty meter came up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MRBAuZml7U EDIT: It may just be a corrupted ROM.

AFter watching the WIP, I too have decided to support the Crawl TAS. It's so funny to watch him just crawl around. :3 On another note, your 120 Star TAS is incredible FODA. ;3

are you sure that there is no place in the whole lower floor where you can BLJ in order to get through bowsers door? like the slopes in the room where you have to drain the water? And how would 0 stars be possible? are you sure that you can enter 2nd bowser stage w/out entering DDD? I mean, maybe it just looks like the wall is moved behind the bowser stage, but maybe these are 2 totally diffrent maps. so even if you ARE able to glitch through the DDD water-wall you might even not be able to enter Bowsers stage.... Hope you understand what I mean, but meh, me is SM64 nap :P

How many Stars is the Crawl TAS going to go for by the way? ;3

I'd much prefer a backwards running TAS, with Mario randomly falling asleep in hilarious spots which would otherwise be dull perhaps. You can't go slower than going backwards right? it's negative speed :p

However many it takes to enter Bowser2, unless you can glitch a 16star. I don't know if you can carry MIPS while holding Z, though.

lol, yeah. Only velocity can be negative. I still think it a bit crazy doing a crawing TAS (although I haven't seen it and am a bit lazy to find the file), but i'll support anything different from a normal looking run so... Good luck

imo it's still negative speed since he's never going to reach a place ahead of him unless he starts going forwards again. and thus it will take ever so much longer and make the speed slow. and by speed I mean being fast and since being slow is the opposite of fast, it's negative in that aspect :p but of course it was sort of sarcasm, since obviously that only applies if you're going another direction than the intended one. I guess have fun wasting your time everyone since it's merely a sleeping pill to me..

According to the definition of speed, it is the absolute value of velocity. Speed is a quantity with no direction, velocity is a vector with a direction in 3d space. So yeah, if you wanna get REAL technical about it you could say he had a negative velocity relative to wherever he's facing. But we get your point =P

Speaking of which, I wonder if it's possible to overflow Mario's velocity, a la Zelda 2. Does anyone know how Mario's velocity is stored in memory?

How is the 16-star improvement (15'20"-30" target) going, by the way?

Programmers and mathematicians have no problems with negative speeds.
This signature is much better than its previous version.

Well, as much as I'd like to argue this (as I am a mathematician and a programmer), it's going off topic. Just fyi, we always lose marks at this University (and others that my friends are it) if you calculate negative speed. Back to crawling Mario!

*edit* just noticed this was said on the previous page, just had to post after seeing the two pages on this page... it killed me */edit* speed = abs(velocity) if velocity is negative, speed is positive and if velocity is positive, speed is positive. Speed is intended to have a direction associated with it, you CANNOT have negative speed but you certainly can have negative velocity. Of course it is all dependent on perspective whether it is negative or positive. PS, is there an avi for FODA's 120 star run that I don't have to use bittorrent for?

Nice improvement of the 16 star run, Rikku. Are you planning to try the 120 star run?
