BTW: Everyone else sees mr_roberts_z's avatar as that AVATARITY.COM ad right? I was browsing this forum one day in IE and saw it was supposed to be a tiger or something. I never knew this since Firefox has always showed it to be that ad though.... you should get a different host :P
Heh, yeah, I know abut that, sometimes I see the ad myself. I'm relitively inexperienced with avatars, so I just Googled "avatars" and went to the first site. I''=ll probably choose something else.
mr_roberts_z has a video of him BLJing on a sign. Would it be possible to BLJ on a sign and go through the slide building of CCM without touching a coin? there are multiple signs in that area.
It's a nice idea, but fairly unlikely... THe sign that I BLJ'd from was one of those arrow signs, not a sign with a message. It seemed to be built of an invisible wall; I tried it on all the other signs in BoB, but that was the only one. I'll give it a shot though, there's always hope. But rght now I'm stuck on the Chuckya part of the test... It just won't turn into a damn star. EDIT: Would anyone be okay if I skipped it in the test run? It seems like this can only be gotten once in a very long time, and I'd rather it be in the real run than in the test run. EDIT 2: I got it!

Cool :) how many times does the loaded object change until the star appears?

I think about 30 times... the star took 6 minutes, IIRC. Now I'm stuck on the last star (the new one).

Well you could just save before the point and reload right? Did you figure out what affects the transformation? Hopefully its something easy like the time or position you cross the load zone...

Well, the world's crappiest test run is finally done... A few small notes: -Obviously, since this is just a test, I didn't do any castle BLJing (or any other BLJing, almost), and therefore, the route in the castle will be way different in the final run. It'll go something like this: 1. Lakitu Skip 2. Lobby Glitch into JRB (or on small stairs, if possible) + Exit Course 3. Lobby Glitch into WF + Exit Course 4. Lobby Glitch into CCM + Exit Course 5. BoB normally + exit normally 6. Lobby Glitch into PSS 7. Lobby Glitch into B1 + Exit Course 8. Lobby Glitch into PSS 9. Go normally, MIPS glitch through 30 Star Door 10. Go normally, Exit Course, go to Basement, get MIPS 2 star 10. Go normally, BLJ up remaining staircases -I accidentally picked up one coin; I would've redone it, but....you'll see -Completely disregard JRB, especially Star 16... It was really late at night, and I had no idea how long I took with the star until it was way too late to redo it -I have no idea what's gonna happen with "Quick Race Through Downtown!"... I don't think a six minute star would be acceptible, but I don't see any way to speed it up -Enjoy the final star.... It was by far the hardest to do (it made "Pyramid Puzzle" feel like "Shoot into the Wild Blue"), and it took almost 800 rerecords -The finishing time on here was about an hour and twenty minutes. I'm hoping that if it's all perfectly optimized, it can be pushed down to around 1:05 - 1:10... So, enjoy. Comments are appreciated.

Hmm, I don't really see the point in a test run that isn't testing the limits of a single star... Seeing stars like JRB's through the jet stream, and the chuckya glitch which should not take that long (remember to use the c-buttons for more interesting camera angles in the final version) makes me think this will be a sub 50-minute run. I did enjoy seeing the strategies for all the stars that are different than FODA's/AKA's for CCC-less. I look forward to seeing WIPs of the real run :) Edit: one thing: I saw you used the shell a few times but there are no stars that NEEDED the shell, and since you're depriving yourself of other power-ups, I'm wondering if this could be a CCCC-less run? (coinless, capless, canonless, carapaceless) :P

only if it's faster to do so.

Ouch RobertZ, I don't envy that Chuckya star, it took me over an hour when I got it. D: I'll dl the test run now. :)

shells speed you up, even under water. There's one in Jolly Roger Bay, I don't know why it isn't used, despite the fact that it doesn't last forever.

MRZ, are you using a controller in your USB, or are you using a keyboard? Just wondering.

You mean mr_roberts_z. mrz is another guy. Yeah, their names can be confused quite easily.

He is? I didn't know that... I guess I should stop labeling the .m64 files "MRZ". Anyway, like I said, pretty much all of the JRB stars should be ignored, and I couldn't help the Chuckya star. There is a shell in JRB, but it's pretty useless; it's possible to swim faster than it, I think. This test one was just to try out some different routes; I didn't bother with anything impressive, like camera angles. Anyway, I'll start working on a WIP in a couple of days.

Shouldnt you be able to do the chuckya star in the first try? Remember you have rerecording. I've definitely gotten it on a console in just a few tries after by getting lucky. A test run should really be using the route you intend on using in a real run... just with unoptimized movements. It's kinda hard to give feedback if you intend on using a different strategy... but I'll try anyway! Im not sure if lobby glitching into PSS is worthwhile since you have to go through that door twice. You should collect the sub star in DDD second to last so you can jump into the water quicker (the manta ray star must follow it). In BB you should be using the BLJ strategy more from AKA's or FODA's run, but you said that already. And use the jump instead of the owl in WF. Actually you are pretty much expected to match or beat all the applicable stars from their runs anyway to get published :)

I use a standard grey N64 controller plugged into a USB adaptor.

I think FODA told me that the randomness was sort of set in the game, and rerecording wouldn't do anything, but I probably misunderstood him. I guess I'll have to try it; it would look terrible if it were 6 minutes long in the final run.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted the run. Well, I'm inexperienced with making a run on this site, so I'm learning.

Hmm...you're probably right.

Yep, I'll make sure to do that... Also, I know there's lag, but I have no idea how to fix it with the camera angles.

Yea, like I said, both those strategies sort of take a really long time to get, and I didn't want to spend so much time on them.

Heh heh. From looking at the test run, it seems like the vast majority of the stars wil look pretty much the same as FODA did them (strategy-wise), just with a little bit of coin-avoiding... Does anyone think it would be okay to try some different routes, even at the cost of time? It would make the run a little more unique, though it wouldn't be as fast as possible.

Holding a C direction makes the camera look at mario from that side. Minimizing lag just means that if you notice a part of the run lags (not noticible during rerecording, only when watching) make the camera look at the area that has the least amount of polygons. For example, AKA looked at the side wall rather than the loading area/submarine

Question: What would be faster, using the method FODA did to get into JRB, then LJing to the painting, or using the Lobby Glitch to fly right into the painting?

the lobby glitch would be faster, but only by a split second.

If so, then would it be worth it to do FODA's method for a little variety? If not that, then which course would be the best to start off with?

You should start off with the first bowser, since it requires a different route now that you don't have to collect the red coins.

Uh oh.... I think we have a slight problem... I can't BLJ in any either of the pillars without picking up the coins.

Doh, have you tried starting the BLJ in different positions/angles? If it is possible to stand on either of those platforms without picking up coins then you should have enough room.

It's impossible... I've tried every angle I could. Then again...those coins don't really count as coins, since the game doesn't add them into the memory once they're picked up........ Or maybe they do.
