It is about an improvement of 2001 frames compared with my old TAS [2268] GBC Lucky Luke: Desperado Train by TheKDX7 in 25:13.43 owed to diverse new techniques.

Introduction

Lucky Luke Desperado Train is a game developed by Infogrames and brought in November 15th 2000 on GameBoy Color. The theme of certain levels are in touch with certain famous titles such as: The Ballad of the Daltons, Western Circus, Travelling up the the Mississippi or still The Rivals of Painful Gulch.

History

Desperados have stolen a train. Lucky Luke has got to catch them before they lay waste to the land.

Comments

The game is played in the hardest difficulty "Marshall" which includes the fact of having more enemies (snakes, other obstacles) and which makes you begin the game with three hearts instead of two.

Stage by stage comments

Nothing Gulch (316F)

  • The first and very light improvement comes from the fact that we can save 1 frame if we hang on to certain ends of roof.
  • It is possible to get through an enemy by firing twice to him above rather than to kill him (I tried in vain to make it with all the enemies but unsuccessfully).
  • I used a technique that I called "reset cycle". It is the fact of retracing his steps to make begin again since the beginning the animation of an object or an enemy but with a slight delay.
This technique serves particularly to avoid certain enemies who could appear suddenly or then manage to reach a platform before it is made its first cycle. Return at the back of some frames with the aim of delaying the animation of an enemy to be able to pass without he affects you.
  • Rise on houses to avoid enemies who are on our path.

Painful Gulch (93F)

  • I saved a lot of time thanks to the fact that I did not climb the completeness of a building, what made me lose quite a lot of time in the previous TAS.

Horseshoe (49F)

  • I moved so that the places where to throw horseshoes are not taken away too much from each other.

Circus Show (423F)

  • The fact of barking with Rantanplan allows to make collapse stalagmites and to scare off rats, what shows to be faster than to take damage.
  • I was allowed slide on a slope frozen rather than to jump by top.
  • I got back the key and I used the technique of the reset cycle to be able to rise on the balloon. I again used this technique for the second balloona which I met.

Nelson's Soup (24F)

  • I was incredibly surprised seeing that I saved so many frames on this auto-scroll level, that remains a mystery for me.

French Cancan! (25F)

  • I discovered a strange phenomenon in this level, if you press on A or B in a precise frame after the end of the music you can end the level more quickly. (Left: old, right: new) http://imgur.com/CEYkk1Q

Cowboy Quay (243F)

  • I took damage by rats rather than by cowboy.
  • Use of the reset cycle to reach one of the wooden logs.

Mississippi Race (4F)

  • Just like the level with the lion I do not know how here I was able to save 4 frames.

Crazy Telegram! (21F)

  • Similar that the level "French can can", I also pressed on A (or B) in a specific frame to end the level more quickly.

Blizzard Blues (323F)

  • Climb in a faster way to fetch the jar of honey.
  • Many movements are more precise and fast, especially to go back up at the top of the cave having got back the pickaxe.
  • The escalation of the tree at the end of the level is slightly different and faster.

Explosive Mine (0F)

  • No frame was saved on this level.

Every Dog Has It's Day (14F)

  • As the level "Horseshoe", I throw in the plates which are not too much taken away, set apart the first one.

Desperado City (457F)

  • At the end of this level he has to remain in me a heart, to be made I fired at three Mrs. Dalton but not any :
Mrs. Dalton who move by running is present in the screen during a duration of 475 frames whereas Mrs. Dalton in window is present only hanging 174 frames. I thus fired three times at this poor old woman who wanted just to run away.

Runaway Train (9F)

  • These 9 saved frames are due to a better precision of the jump by above the fireplace of the train having got back the crank.

Other comments

A slow game made slightly faster is always a good thing =). I'm not a huge fan of you using VBA for this, but it's still not completely banned at least.

It is about my last TAS on VBA, the next ones will be made on Bizhawk :)
