What's up guys?
After Mortal Kombat or Street Fighters run that time I opt for a SNK game most knnown as Samurai Shodown or Samurai Spirits (your name preference) bring some combos, glitches and some others missed in the last run.
To replay run, first you will need to change region to Japan on dip switches, after setted close the game and emulator, re-open and so playback the fbm.
  • Observation: If this run don't sync to you, please check your bios (neogeo.zip), search for a file called "sfix.sfx" if you don't have this file, just download the last bios which is 1.5mb and it will syncs normally.
>Warning: I'd like to suggest who want to watch the run by my Youtube Encode, because I got some random desyncs in Hanzo x Galford fight when Galford cut Hanzo to get the timeover glitch I don't know if will happen with someone, so if you're having this problem I suggest to watch the encode, anyway the run generally don't give any desyncs itself if you continue watching the run but if Hanzo isn't was cut so the run will continue normally, but the right time will be Galford cutting Hanzo in the right timeover frame to get the glitch.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: fba-rr v0.02
  • Game: Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge
  • Plays on Hardest Difficult
  • Abuses programming errors
  • 1 and 2 players
  • Abuses combo system: juggles, infinites, 99hits, 100%.
  • Upper Grade, Slash and Bust styles
  • Uses the best characters to get more entertainment.

Game introduction

Samurai Supirittsu Amakusa Kōrin is the fourth in SNK's flagship Samurai Shodown series of fighting games. Chronologically, is the second and final chapter of an interlude between Samurai Shodown and Samurai Shodown II, being Samurai Shodown III the first chapter.

Game Choice & Run

First off, I choose this game because I'd like to bring it my list of games that I intend to TASing, SSIV has taken a part of it. When I watched the current playaround I got interested, and I decided to make one and I could show awkward stuff of other characters that was missed. Among them are Haohmaru and Nakoruru that I looked for bring their best things, moreover I drove the run towards some more than a simple playthrough by adding 2 players and presenting variety and stunning combos, glitches and bugs.

Glitches & Tricks

  • Basara Suicide?
Basara is literally a bad character in combo terms, my choice in this fight was because Basara has this bug and Nakoruru which have cool combos, to do it you just need to leave him on the ground followed by a sword attack, it need to be in the right frame or it won't works, the effect: Basara make a kind of suicide and the screen freeze for sometime.
  • The Brothers bond.
Unfortunately for any reason Kazuki can't kill your brother with your fireball. Generally when Kazuki do your no contest (fatality) command the torso from the enemy will be ripped out, with Sorgetsu it didn't occur, he just take the fireball and faint.
  • Galford wrong side, Hanzo Timeover
What did you expected from a ninja fight? disappearances? shurikens? If you hope for it so enjoy this fight. Galford can pass through the out side to explore the obscure screen, while Hanzo practice their ninja arts fading away from the screen, a easy glitch just need to do a Replica Attack with B+D and doing a tech roll with Galford, to disappear with Hanzo just do Ninpo Utsusemi after the tech roll. The timeover have no secrets, just take the right distance and do a impact attack with C to cut the enemy with a automatically fatality.
  • Stuck in screen
Remember Basara Suicide? It seems similar but has a invencible effect from punches, kicks or any attack from the enemy you just need to press a+b in the exactly frame of swords conflict Shizumaru will go back to her planet. Also the time basically freeze when you do Honorable Deaths.
  • Ukyo techniques
As I told above, I choose Ukyo because he has better techniques and combos. Ukyo can't be a bad choice, he has some interesting tricks which can be really useful in TAS or in a casual match, most of them are based on back throws and cancel moves. On corners do back throws followed by forward, forward, down, forward+C it will allow you to do Hiken Tsubame Gaeshi without need to be in air. On same corner do medium punch (b) followed by a+b the punch will be cancelled into the dodge, you will be able to do more 2 hits with this technique. Also according to combovideos and some tests, Ukyo is probably the only character which can get 99 hits.

Thanks to:

  • SDR for follow me all time, watching fight by fight, helping with my encode and upload.
  • Jiey sshodown for your channel support on bugs/glitches discovery.
  • mamuuut for your run
Well is it, I hope you enjoy my work.

Nach: Some aspects of what this run was doing appeared suspicious. After research, it appears this run is in fact legit.
Feedback for this run wasn't great, but it was acceptable. Since this game already has a published run, and this run appears to be better, I'm accepting this as an improvement.
feos: Oh man, I finally pub it.

The PvP parts were great, the PvC parts were less so. Still, very nice work! I knew I was in for a good time when the game crashed on the first match. My favorite part was the ninja match, which was very...nonconventional. :)

Thanks for understanding my main goal in the run. I didn't search for doing the fights against cpu the main part of run, but that doesn't mean I did any which way, because we don't have many spaces to show glitches or any other that we need to deal with the second player for performancing it. However I tried fulfill the essentials things that was completely forgotten in mamuut's attempt. Here I could present what the game can offer such as 99hit, a nice quarrel between 2 players, glitches and funny situation but its obviously that neither run is enough perfect to bring all of game, I tried to do the best, though.

Great job! I also agree with the goals you had in mind for the run. It was fun to see Samurai Shodown get broken. I also liked the PvC fights a good bit, since they showed off a pretty fluid character with several ways of dominating their opponent.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

Why did you TAS this in Japanese mode? Also, no Victoly???

According to SNK wiki, Japanese game version don't own uncensored. I choose 1 round to beat CPU fights because possibly the run time would be so long, so probably the narrator voices saying "victorly" can't be heard.

I have forgotten things that i never think about nor want to...i'm not alone in my head...the goal of my TAS was beat the game with Kazuki, nothing more... Everybody have his own vision of what he wants in his video...or "essential (lol)" things he needs to show, abuse reset etc

Don't worry, what call my attention probably was the "playaround" tag instead of "playthrough" or non-tag, see Mortal Kombat 4 or Killer Instinct runs are similar movies about those tag terms. Sure, playarounds don't need to have two player matches or something similar, just need to have multi-player action (take Shang Tsung, Spinal examples), another example is Street Fighter II Rainbow Edition which don't need to uses two player matches to get entertainment and has "playthrough" as tag instead of "playaround", still my cheers for errror1 taking the 2p scene. I'm not blaming you or anyone who submit, anyway the site sometimes make people confuses when looking for those tag. *edit: reset abuse can be a good concept to complement my multi-player action too, to get more random team/fights instead of need to beat character by character, it's just useful on SNK and Capcom games.

this run is better current run. I'll vote a light Yes for entertaiment I have some suggest for you, hope you'll do in next time - why you didn't select max power start battle? It'll help easy do combos more than - Much your combos showed aren't long combos, they're short combos. You can watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em4cJZWNquw - At Ukyo 99 hits combo, it'll better. if you do 100% combo (like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdkcDWorCDU). You can do 99 hits combo anytime without power. Example at 14:04 in your video, do CD AABBCCAB, qcb D, move forward then repeat. And hell, most characters can do 99 hits combos same this - Nice bugs you showed, but only at end battle. SS4 have ton bugs in battles, you can watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyPZsXoahaI and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uetYWyg1iqI - At vs with AI, I feel some boring. No speed, no long combos, few tricks....

Thanks, samsho5 is questionable since has no major bug/glitches as SSIV and your old series.

Nice to see my run brings you here. I will retract point by point using your arguments. - I don't know if a run using Max Power would be accepted, and second there is no reason to uses Max Power, it will cause a lot of infinites or 100% and it's a PLAYAROUND which needs combo variations, glitches and another stuffs whose can be added around the run. - You need to understand how the combo system works before enter about long combos part, first because some of these SSIV combovideos uses less damage bar by using AES system which allow to increase or decrease the damage bars from the players on game options. Now about long combos will depends according to each character, tap on google Samurai Shodown Silent Force Combovideo, on video description they talk about the infinites and how those infinites are totally broken that is: while playarounding you have totally freedom to block or skip most of the combos, so I need to take the best non-blocked combos from some characters making short combos by this consequences. - Again the damage bar option take the scene, there's no way to do 99 hits without need to change the character damage, I tried a 99hit combo used by 0nslaugh7 and didn't work by two reasons: the damage and the second player, you need a good position to got 99 hits with Ukyo with player one damage change, and the second player position to got it. Every character can get 99 hits when the player one or two damage stay in 4 instead of 2 or 3. But with some luck manipulating the enemy AI change being 99 hits possible, also have repetitive infinites which don't sounds interesting. - For last, SSIV could be better on glitches but seems like a balanced system, most of glitches showed by Jiey can only be possible in two players situations, also their bug/glitch videos has taken part of my run. - CPU part was just to finish my TAS, I made it clear when I told above the two players fights was my main goal because have more glitches, bugs situations. Repair I set the CPU fights to only one round per fight to didn't lost record time. Also Ukyo was the best speed character from the game, if I just keeping choosing speed characters I couldn't bring some funny glitches. Conclusion: my thanks for vote and gave your opinion on my run, I don't know if you already played this game, but somethings can be only possible in certain situations as some combos, glitches or game system. I didn't opt for AES system because I want a variable run "a bit of everything" to add around the run without losing the main goal of category playaround.

@Dark Noob: I don't criticize your this run. I just give suggest for if you do next time The combos alway better fast actions, the long combos alway better short combos. I know your mean about 99 hits combos. Yes some about them I call them are fake combos (number hits still gain but can block any time), and some real combos but aren't real (victim can cancel combo any time with ABC while standing). But this's demonstration video, many things in TAS videos can do but impossible do in real life. About 100% combos damage, you forgot something. You can make bonus damage by power and counter acctack, you can make victim get little stun when jump C right time, you can make enemy more delay time before block by a attack from behind, etc. About vs AI, I suggest you try Hanzo for run speed. My main combo for Hanzo while max power: down B, qcb B, jump C, repeat. Yep, I think this's best speed strategy. Sorry my english isn't good, hard to say what I want...

Often I see people complaining about a run for various reasons. Such as it's too repetitive, too linear, whatever. Without some explanation of things to look for in the discussion, judges will often just do whatever they think is best. I see here many posts describing what they like about the run, Spikestuff's in particular is helpful for comparison, but there's a high percentage of no votes, with nothing negative in the comments. Without knowing what people dislike, Dark Noob or others cannot improve this run, and judges have no way of knowing if the dissatisfaction is legitimate or not.

I didn't take your arguments/suggestions as critical, sorry if sounded that way. Combos question still questionable by my mainly reason: I'm playarounding so I need to lose some combos to add variations, as you told most of ssiv combos videos are just demonstrations which shows off fake combos, if I try to add any long combo while the second player joins it will occur giving me a option to use those combos against CPU matches, I know about hard punch impact C togive the enemy from behind also I used this method on Kazuki x Sorgetsu fight, bonus damage (counter damage) are optional while I'm playarounding with probably the best character, your intention is get the best fast combo possible and my goal focus on shows what most people like to see, yes Hanzo can do a glitch on Zankuro too. There's no sorry about English speak, I have a lot of difficult too and day by day I try to improve it myself, I hope now you understood my view point, don't expect a future run from me, for me this run showed good glitches, combos variations as my already publications.

Actually nobody expressed opinions about no votes, I can't improve my run because I'm satisfied with my run, so I hope the justice can be done while judging.

I think this's good enough for entertaiment (have tricks, bugs, combos, etc), better the current run Just feel a little sad, it didn't make any surprise to me. That's why I'm sacred and didn't make TAS this game

@xxNKxx sometimes I feel the same looking for all my runs we probably always miss somethings, sometimes combos, sometimes a glitch, sometimes more matches, but it didn't discouraged me anytime contrariwise it was the ladder to my conclusion and same adding all of your knowledge, always we will feel something has been missed because it's the nature from the games *always discovering new things, as example Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 SNES. This game has a balanced engine with some glitches, tricks, combos sometimes older and sometimes new, still I appreciated your suggestions and I will always take it as complement to my future runs thanks for your suggestions :)

The problem are in the neogeobios, I use archives from the old bios (64k and 128k) 000-lo and some another archives because some snk games needs some old archives from old bios, you just need to get the old bios, extract and zip with the new archives (128k) if you don't found it, could I send to you a PM with all bios?

To sync the fbm: First off, you will need to download the older neogeo bios which contains 64k archives, see feos img showing 000-lo.lo archive being 128k and the correctly> 64k. If you didn't find the older archives so it will be more useful to you: download the 000-lo.lo archive just tap on google, the archive must be 64k, now you just need to has the last neogeo bios (I suggest 1.4mb neogeo.zip), after downloaded the neogeo.zip just extract the archives and replace the 000-lo.lo 128k archive by the downloaded 000-lo.lo 64k which will be essential to run and sync SNK games, now delete the neogeo.zip and compact all archives extracted and replaced and put as neogeo and as zip archive (neogeo.zip) now just move this new neogeo bios to roms to get sync. *Also sorry for didn't warned about this information, I forgot FBA v-002 uses old setups, I will fix it at top from the submission. And feos I'd suggest to watch my encode if it get accept, because at Galford x Hanzo desyncs occur while I was encoding at timeover part, idk if it will occur with you but it just a warn if happens.
