Hi, here is an improvement of 234 frames (392 when counting the title screen) over my last submisson.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 1.11.5
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses a game restart sequence

Comments

The first thing you may have noticed is that I switched to the japanese version of the game. I did so to get a better comparison with RTA runs. I didn't count the time saved by the title screen.

Stage by stage comments

1-1 (1)

Not much new stuff in this level. I somehow saved one frame to the character menu. I also saved 10 frames in the cave area but it was lost to Birdo afterwards

1-2 (57)

The improvement of this stage is the Birdo fight. I saved 56 frames by using a double hit on Birdo.

1-3 (61)

I saved 1 frame of lag and 3 frames at potion throwing.

3-1 (62)

I saved 1 frame at potion throwing.

5-1 (131)

Using Toad in this stage is a lot faster. In the first part, I saved 41 frames by picking up an enemy. I lost 44 frames in the cave because I have to slow down in some places. I saved 72 frames at the Birdo fight. Overall, I saved 69 frames in this stage.

5-2 (145)

I saved 64 frames in the first room by jumping up the ladder. I saved 3 frames at the climbing part. I lost 53 frames at Birdo because I have to wait for an extra egg. Overall, I saved 14 frames in this stage.

5-3 (163)

I saved 16 frames in the first room by jumping up the ladder. I also saved 2 frames at potion throwing. Overall, I saved 18 frames.

7-1 (224)

3 frames saved up to the vertical part. I saved 33 frames in the vertical part and 25 frames at Birdo. Overall, I saved 61 frames.

7-2 (234)

I saved 72 frames up to Wart, but I lost back 62 frames due to the frame rule. Overall, I saved 10 frames.

Other comments

Thanks to everyone who gave me good feedback on my last submisson. This is what motivated me to restart this from scratch and I am happy to save around 4 seconds.

Almost a 4-second improvement not counting the title screen. I love it! Yes vote.

Sadly you still didn't include my 1-1 strategy which is faster in that room (but not overall because of frame rules, but it would still add to the entertainment value). I saw other places (especially going around corners) which could be improved by some frames. (Yes, even places that aren't using a global frame rule at the end) Altogether I had to decide between a Meh and a No vote and I've decided for a No vote, not because I don't think this should be accepted, but because I just couldn't enjoy myself seeing missed chances and kind of sloppy gameplay.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

I have no time to check your movie. After watched it, I think this run still need to be improved. I'm not sure the sma trick can be used or not. If these tricks still worked, it should be saved more than 256 frames. If not work, there are still too much small frames can be saved.

Nice improvement to your previous submission. I'm not sure how optimized it is, but it looked good to my eyes. Voting yes for entertainment.

Around 6:55, would it be faster if Toad doesn't hit the wall?

No because of the frame rule of the veggie machine which, like Birdo, shoots one veggie each 256 frames. It would look cleaner though.

For some reason, I slowed down in 5-3. I will have to fix this.

Giving this a No. This is the second time you've submitted this movie, and while it is better then it was before, it's still sloppy.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

Some other improvements: 1-2: Skip landing on the second Beezo at the beginning. Saves like 2 frames 3-1: Jump instead of fall after going through the door, saves 4 frames. You can also jump and throw the potion earlier to save another 2 frames or so. 3-2: Like a frame faster if you jump again after picking up the enemy at the start of the level, to avoid landing on the Ostro. 5-2: You can easily kill Birdo with two eggs and the fish, saving 70 frames. 5-3: Duckjump directly after the ladder so that you'll land earlier, as the charge jump doesn't charge unless you are on the ground. That in combination with not pushing against the wall saves about 20 frames. 7-1: It's faster to do a charge jump on the pillar than to use the Albatoss, up to 10 frames. Earlier jump into the hole with the rocket can save another 2. 7-2: A bit of time can be saved when picking up the Shy Guy at the conveyor belt. Both to not jump an extra time before and to jump later before grabbing the Shy Guy. Like 5+ frames saved. You could have landed earlier on the second fast conveyor belt to save another frame. And if you have stayed on it the whole way, and one less jump on the slow conveyor, another 5 frames saved. I could barely make it over the Spark in the next section. I could improve about 3 frames on the chain/ladder jump (by jumping from right to left), but meh. You could still save several frames by ducking under it rather than doing a regular jump and then some more with better chain jumping and then jumping down to the key rather than falling. Do a duck jump with the key to the keylock to save another two frames. I also feel like a few green Birdo fights could be improved... But didn't research those too much.
