Game objectives

  • Ends game early
  • Manipulates Luck.
  • Aims for PSX accurate loading time.
Emulator used: Bizhawk 1.11.3 ROM Used: Oddworld - Abe's Exoddus (USA) (Disc 1).bin
         Oddworld - Abe's Exoddus (USA) (Disc 2).bin
BIOS Used: SCPH7003.bin (Original movie syncs with this BIOS and has the correct re-record count.
Welcome to my new Abe's Exoddus TAS completed in 59:40. This movie is slightly slower than the current published TAS dueto using an accurate emulator, Bizhawk with it's Otoshock core. There has been some slight changes to some of the levels in the first disc of this game. More information is in the level comments. THe in-game time mtaches Dooty's time, 00:41, but then after the bad ending screen disappears, the game timer then shows 00:40.

level by Level Improvements

Necrum Mines

On the first level of the game, I improve this level by using the ledge glitch shortcut taken from the 100% run. It seems a lot faster to use the closest ledge.

Mudomo Vaults

On the third door that I enter, I save a few frames by waiting less for the two paramties to turn arround. In Dooty's run, it took him 53 frames of no input before he could run towards the ledge. I also used the route in the next door from the 100% run which also saved a few frames.

Mudanchee Vaults

In Dooty's run, he couldn't run pass one of the scrabs due to it's AI. He had to hoist against a ledge. In my run, Abe manages to jump towards the scrab and run towards it without it killing Abe.

Feeco Depot

I manage to save a few frames in the Depot thanks to not waiting for the Greeters to move.

Zulags

In the last door in Hub 2, I saved a few freames with the sligs whilst trying to shot the Sligs from the foreground.

Why do you keep submitting and cancelling runs? We may have to temporarily remove your submission privileges if you keep abusing the system like this.

Because of the amount of no votes that I've been receiving makes me want to cancel them.

Yeah, uh, don't do that. That's clear abuse of the system. One more cancellation like this and you won't be able to submit anymore. Feel free to submit the final run, but warn us in advance and talk about your reasoning long before you choose to cancel it again. EDIT: To everyone else, if you're immediately voting No on the run just because of the submitter, that's not cool either.

So what's the time difference comparing to the PCSX run then? Both movie files reached the same in-game time. I did manage to improve a few stages in the first disc but some of the stages in the second disc were slower.

As the TASer and submitter, you should be the one knowing what the in-game time difference between your run and the previous one is, down to the frame. If there is no proof that this submission is faster than the previous movie, we can't accept it.

We are going to have an interesting party now. Your submission text, makes it sound like you save a lot of time well... let's get the address that you need. The address which benefits us: 7E3F8 This address once again ignores every transition by pausing the value. What's the difference PCSX-rr: 74273 (74230 end of input) PSHawk: 74258 (74215 end of input) This is an improvement of 15 frames. Hardly anything especially how the submission text is written. It sounded as more time was saved, even though there wasn't.

Well, maybe I should have changed the submission text to say that its a small improvement over 15 frames. I am going to try and save some more frames from the last Zulag in hub 1 due to the slow Mudokons pulling the lever.

It's 2 no votes and 1 yes vote (at this post); I'm positive chances are people don't like this game/run more than having some conspiracy against him.

Samtastic, for your next run, make sure to compare times for every stage. You don't want to be slower in any stage without a good reason. Spikestuff provided a RAM address for the in-game time frame count. You should use this to compare the times of your stages to those of the published run. Check the value of that RAM address at the end of every stage or the end of the game in both the published run and your new one, note down the results and compare.

Ok. How do I use that RAM address? Do I ad it in the RAM watch or something?

Cool. I got the RAM address to work in Bizhawk which is good news. I will try in my final submission for this category to match exactly what Dooty did in PCSX to save even more frames. Bearing in mind we did have a small improvement of Abe's Oddysee back in 2014 which was a 21 frame improvement. http://tasvideos.org/4298S.html

Since you just learned of RAM Watch now, it would probably be wise to find x/y addresses and see if some minor frame savings can be gleamed from the run.
