Game objectives
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Manipulates luck
  • Emulator used FCEUX 2.23
This run is 5107 frames (85 seconds) faster than my old run.
New tricks: Holy water glitch: For some enemies, throw holy water to make it just hit enemy that kill it by one hit.
Long jump: When Simon stand on a moving platform, walk forward and jump without direction at the first frame after stop walking.
Cancel level up sequence: Just level up at edge of screen before screen changed. This was discovered by Fortranm.
Continuous floor sinking: Do floor sinking and whip at opportune frame again, it can through under 3 blocks height floor.
For this run, I use my route owing to Fortranm's run was not faster than mine. Only less improvement in the open air which almost did by long jump. Most of it made in mansions. In the first masion, I killed less enemies because holy water glitch let me to collect more hearts before. Second masion, optimized warp and use continuous floor sinking. Third mansion, continuous floor sinking again. Fourth mansion, no improvement. Fifth mansion, I use another way to break fake wall that reduce some lag. Last castle, the hero continuously through 4 floors!
Note: I was going to cancel the second level up sequence and kill the hero to restore health, finally I change my mind because I found that I must wait the skeleton move to the edge of screen and one more laurel.
You can see I jump in some places with no reason, actually it reduce a couple of lag.
Thank to Fortranm for his work of the game, guyze for his encode.

feos: Updated the submission with a 663 frame faster version per author's private request.

Nach: Nice run, decent feedback. Accepting as improvement to existing run.
feos: Pub.
feos: Updating again, with a 360 frame improvement. And resetting to Judging underway.
Nach: Decent update. Agreeing with what I said earlier.
Spikestuff: You're holding 2 already. Author of one is updating their work, so I have to wait. The other one is 3 hours. Publishing + Mass Encoding. (feos forgot about this, and wrote that I can take it)
Nach: Updating movie file as discussed in thread.

Fortranm: Wow, preliminary test, that trick did 30 frames faster than stair glitch, maybe more. It definitely will be used in next version since the movie is going to be published. Bisqwit: I try to explain it. For the case which the hero and enemy stand on same horizontal, throw holy water to make it just touch enemy, in this situation it doesn't work for some enemies. For the case which the hero stand on a high block, throw holy water at the edge of block when enemy close to the block.

zggzdydp: Can you update your movie to make use of this new trick? Or is the movie not edit-friendly here?

I haven't started encoding yet. How hard would this be to include right away?

The RNG of this game is extremely edit-unfriendly. This trick is only used more than two-thirds into the game so he won't need to redo most of the run though.

Link to video I just found out Koh1fds uploaded this video back in 2014. Killing Dracula with holy water turns out to be 115 frames faster. I'm using zggzdydp's run from March 26 so the new route in Mansion 4 is not implemented. It probably can be easily edited into the new run since the final boss battle seems to be RNG independent. Edit: Saved another 66 frames. The exact location of Dracula doesn't matter after all. You just need to make sure the holy water hits the ground at the right time. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/38276594254582976

Finally that new improvements were added on this run. Good work! And due of final boss new strategy, you did a new category of this run: Uses death to save time.

No boost swag and different underwater mansion route than Furios Paul one. Is it 100% optimal? Also that off ladder glitch still faster than new "keep jumping to stop scrolling" trick? I think it's possible to save some time with all of that. edit: Swag boost. At least it looks cool: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/6946223?t=11m30s Correct mansion warps. I think i remember that Furios Paul made a video that proofs that this is fastest way: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/6946223?t=08m45s https://www.twitch.tv/videos/6946223?t=09m50s Jump / scrolling trick. Most certanly slower: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/6946223?t=19m28s

Using scrolling glitch in Brahm's Mansion turns out to be faster than using stair glitch. Swag boost is the only trick from RTA WR that is still not in this TAS. :(

The one you quoted is the latest version.

How? This TAS has the exact same route for underwater mansion other than purchasing Oak Stake on the way out.

Sorry. I'm too stupid. I have like million versions of CV2 tas in one folder so i played wrong one. edit: Oh my God! Real last version is insane. Pretty good job! I was watching original like old tas and was thinking "why it's going backwards for old strats?". I have to sleep more

Really? According to my old tests, the holy water could be used on Dracula when he starts circling in the room, but waiting for that takes longer than just to beat him up before that. Did I do it wrong o.O?
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Flame Whip can probably kill Dracula quicker than holy water does, but other whips are slower.

The encoder used an old movie file for publication, why did judge not update the submission all the time?

Oh god, I somehow failed to update it properly. I linked to the correct file in my edit note, but haven't checked the time of the updated movie, even though I compared the framecount.

Cause I don't know what the hell happened if the files get corrected (especially for publication and because I don't know if it's already done... someone tell me.) I'll do the switched encode/downloadables ASAP. And probably add in a bonus HQ / lossless if anyone wants it for your troubles on the wrong file being up. I touched this very late into the cycle for publishing.

It's possible to replace the published movie file, with some database hacking.

btw how holy water/dagger glitch works is that if it strikes the enemy on it's last frame, it insta kills. either if the first hit is on that frame, or if invulnerability expires on the last frame. when the holy water is deleted, if the enemy isn't invulnerable (flashing) at the time the water is touching, it ALSO gets deleted with the holy water, spawning the death object for that enemy.
