Ah yes, I did forget to mention it here, but I've added back some missing gifs and images (due to photobucket) in the Castlevania page some time ago: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/NES/Castlevania.html

Thanks for the GitHub tutorial feos! I successfully set my mood avatars up on there. Hopefully that site will stay up a lot longer than Photobucket.

I'm still seeing the original Photobucket images on that page, they haven't turned into the large "Please Upgrade" images for me. Should they be replaced anyway?

They look like "Please Upgrade" images for me. Maybe your browser has cached the old versions.

In any case, yes. Even if an image isn't already no longer visible for some people (like in this case, as JosJuice noted), it may just be a matter of time before that happens.

Is there a good reason we still don't allow users to upload avatars to tasvideos.org itself? It feels very 2004. This offsite picture storage is always shaky, the avatars aren't big in filesize (we restrict it already) and it would probably improve page loading.
Does anyone have an answer for this?

http://tasvideos.org/2103S.html This looks fine to me now. Does it look okay for anyone else? If so, did photobucket back off on their hotlinking thing?
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Works for me in Firefox and Chrome.

it's the "~original" suffix in the links
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

If that's the case, I suppose I can revert back to my photobucket account.

Following a change in management and direction a few weeks ago, Photobucket restored images that were made inaccessible throughout last year, to go with introducing a new subscription pricing plan that's a 95% reduction of the old one ($1.99/month or $19.99/year instead of $39.99/month or $399.99/year). However, officially, third-party hosting still requires a paid subscription. (Source). Since third-party hosting is still not in the free Photobucket subscription plan, there's no guarantee that images won't still be blocked from hotlinking eventually (unless you pay for it). You can use it, but if it's going to result in issues again I may remove offending avatars without warning.

Just to point out, which is actually visible on this thread thanks to hegyak & Truncated. TinyPic is shutting down on 16th September 2019. Ironically they're saying get a Photobucket account. (Don't get a Photobucket account)

Can't we use the same solution as for TinyPic instead? Namely: "All 72 TinyPic avatar users have now had their avatars restored with a copy hosted on the site." (Can't we use this solution for all avatars?)

No, with the main reason being there's no easy/consistent way I know of to download PhotoBucket images after they've been disabled from hotlinking. And even with a consistent method, it still takes a fair amount of manual work. I'm not interested in doing this work every time an user tries to hotlink with an image host that is well known for causing issues with hotlinking.

Possibly in the (not yet foreseeable) future. The current forum configuration does not allow it.

The only reason for removing these images is avatar size right? Why not go for a CSS solution?
