Bionic Commando is side scrolling action game relying on a grappling hook as the main movement mechanic. Recently, a major skip was found by Pakuliittus that allows much of the final level of the game to be skipped.
The basic idea of the skip is that if you take damage from an enemy at the same frame you would otherwise take damage from a barrier, you will pass through the barrier, if your position is correct. Pretty simple but somehow was never figured out through all these years.
This run simply plugs this glitch into nElifox's original and re-syncs where needed since positioning is slightly different. Also, the enemy firing the bullet that you need to do the second skip shooots at widely varying times, this is the fastest Icould get him to shoot, even though the tranisition to get there is not as fast as possible.
That's pretty much it. I'm always surprised how the RTA community manages to find all these things. This is another example of the 'do two things simultaneously that aren't normally expected to happen' type of glitch that seems to pop up pretty often. I'm sure there are many more out there, we just need to be creative (or lucky) enough to find them!

feos: Replacing with a 913 frame improvement and accepting to obsolete [2517] NES Bionic Commando by nEilfox in 13:21.90.
fsvgm777: Processing.

That is a very great skip and big time save. Yes Vote I'm working as well on improving my own all items run. It will be my first run on 2018.

On the second Youtube video, at 2:13-2:25 nothing meaningful is done and should be removed. Just proceed directly right to the first barrier skip.

^ LOL Also, the ceiling grappling at 2:40 in the second video is very different from the published run. Did you check that you didn't lose any time there?

Challenger: did those videos come directly from the video dumps? You can probably just put them both together in movie maker or something so you dont have two videos for it. As for the movie itself, very entertaining, grappling hook games always deliver entertaining TASes. Yes vote!

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/44367370341976366 Ok that silly error is fixed, please replace the movie file with this one. @Challenger: thanks for the temp! sorry I messed it up now but at least it's only the last 2 minutes! @Aglar: yes both transition areas after the barriers are different (and slower) then the oriignal. I was completely unable to recreate the strats nElifox used there, I think due to different positioning and scrolling at those points. If someone else can somehow improve them by all means do.

I did these good encodes through these instructions: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16971 But I posted on 2 parts because the credits (and the epilogue) breaks the 15-minute limit on youtube.

No worries. Since the only improvement is from the last area, I can replace the part 2 video. But before...

...I managed to improve that transition: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/44378091249856675 I really like this game (although I haven't played much)

Nice, but with that method the shot from the guy in the next room (that we need to skip the second barrier) is much, much slower, so that's definitely not an improvement over all. I currently don't see any way to get both the quick elevator and the quick bullet. If you can improve the second transition after the second barrier though that would be a definite improvement.

The glitch used on the elevator (after the first barrier) doesn't work on the other elevator (after the second barrier). About the bullet: I haven't considered this before. But I don't know if that guy can be manipulated or not.

I meant the grappling over the spikes part, which is slower then the original since I coulnd't fix the positioning after getting the scond barrier skip.

I managed to recreate the elevator skip (although the position is slightly different than the published run) and that spike path (I don't know why, but was able to get inside the spikes only once). Not demanding anything, but it might make sense to also try to contact nEilfox. Participation of a person capable of beating Aglar's times (twice in a row) isn't something one can overestimate.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I think nEilfox's username is spelled nEilfox, not nElifox.
