We all know that Super Mario World has some fast runs, some super fast runs, and some disrespectfully fast runs.
Forget all that!

Game objectives

  • Does not beat the game
  • Demonstration
  • Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs
  • Forgoes arbitrary code execution

Glitched sound

In this run I show the fastest way (probably) to achieve an unusual glitch: consecutive enemies stomped ($7E1697) overflow, enabling an Easter egg sound, which was known already but apparently never shown. Worth noting that the glitched sound keeps playing indefintely (even during death animation) if you don't "replace" it with another sound effect that uses the same channel (for example the "Hurry up!" sound, shown swiping the glitchy sound in the end of the video).

Yoshi dismount glitch

This is a bad name for this unnamed glitch, but basically $7E1697 increments not only when you stomp an enemy but when you mount Yoshi. You can abuse this by mounting and dismounting him before landing on ground consecutively, for example, 7 times in a row and then stomping a Kooopa to get a free 1up. I used this glitch to quickly get 255 for $7E1697, by abusing that other glitch where you smash A when touching a solid ceiling with Mario's head, which basically kills your vertical momentum if done correctly . My previous strat used 4 Yoshis (3 invisible), with various slow dismounts.

Framewar (courtesy of Masterjun)

5415 - brunovalads (this submission)
2698 - xHF01x
2691 - brunovalads
2643 - xHF01x (2641 when ending the sound early)
2626 - BrunoVisnadi
2619 - BrunoVisnadi (but the sound doesn't last long)
2624 - BrunoVisnadi
2622 - brunovalads
2620 - BrunoVisnadi

Thanks

  • Kaizoman for not including this glitch in the list, and for suggesting this way better strat;
  • xHF01x for making a better run showing this new strat encouraging me to do even better;
  • BrunoVisnadi for joining in the framewar too.

Masterjun: Rejecting for destroying my right ear. Er, I mean, judging.
Masterjun: Good framewar, except I clearly won. Unfortunately, overflowing a byte value is considered very rude. Being rude is against our forum rules so I'm sorry to say that I can't accept this run.
Rejecting for abusing poor Yoshi to achieve your goal faster.

After landing on Yoshi for the 100th time, I though it was just an april fools prank aiming to waste our times. But it turns out to be an interesting glitch.

It's an interestingly weird glitch, but it seems like such a gimmicky category. It might be better if this glitch was exhibited along with a bunch of other wacky glitches as a "playaround" TAS. Voting Meh.

The sound effect is 2/10. Rating comes from intelligent conservative anal.: 1. Open https://viewsync.net/watch?v=mGWzwln9tyQ&t=203&v=TcDviyp3uO0&t=72&mode=solo 2. Play 3. Cry 4. Ace

Well that was unexpected. I would like to see a demonstration of how the sound continues to play even after exiting level or that sorts.

Now do a fastest game over with glitched sound achieving ACE without leaving the menu with only Super Scope. Blind folded. No Force of Will.

I'm joining the frame war then http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46201323788117360 Why does it say dirty sram though edit: It's also possible to save a few frames from this by ending the glitch sound earlier but I think that's failing to truly accomplishing the goal edit2: The movie I sent actually stops the glitch sound too. ops. Gonna fix that

Dirty SRAM due to the uploaded file being a savestate. Since lsnes saves the whole movie in a savestate it's still valid though!

I don't understand why I can't get the glitch sound to last longer. So, for now, have this 7 frames faster movie http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46202027493160286 Here Mario touches the shell twice, which makes it impossible to the sound to last. But even if I avoid touching the shell it also stops, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Due to emulation differences, it seems, this glitch only properly works on bizhawk. So here's my final contribution to this frame war - the sound keeps being played and 2 more frames were saved: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46203945145861933 Edit: 2623 is possible, which a bit of a different strat at the end! Unfortunately I made it on lsnes, and bizhawk isn't converting the movies correctly: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/46204067656738815

We always had problems with initial WRAM. Recently, with initial SRAM. And now it's due to initial APURAM values, most of which is not zeroed or touched.

I got 2622 frames (00:43.63) with this strat. Link to video

LOL I just remembered a dream I had last night where Masterjun joined the framewar claiming "I have to beat this time, it's mine!" (or something like that) and crushed my movie with a run so fast that made me legitly sad
