This is the NES port of the M&M book one (Japanese version), the game that spawned a huge series of first-person RPGs and provided the universe for the Heroes spinoff series.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: BizHawk 2.6.3
  • Aims for fastest time without glitch
  • Manipulates Luck

Comments

English version's Speed-run has already posted. But in Japanese version, there are some differences in scenario and existence of glitch. I cannot use the item glitch to skip quests because the it has been fixed, so I walkthrough all of the main quests.

Stage by stage comments

Quest of Scroll

  • Started a new game, named the main character "たす" (similar pronunciation of TAS), no additional members are needed, and change the job to a thief for unlocking and picking up the items
  • Go to Sorpigal Underground and use portal to go to C2 via Crazed Wizard Cave (JP: ノーザンバリア洞穴). This is because Lv.1 character cannot go out through town entrance of Sorpigal.
  • Go to B1, met Ice Princess, answer her riddle in Japanese "あい" (means Love) and get "Key of Diamond" in B1.
This item has 20 charges of "Teleport" magic. It's useful to ignore many forcedly encounters and pass through the walls.
  • Go to B3 and enter Cave of Korin Bluffs (JP: コリンブルッフ洞穴) to get GEM and use portal to return back to Sorpigal Underground.
    • GEM is important for using town to town transferring service from Sorpogal.
  • Use "Key of Diamond" and teleport to follow first quest, taking scroll for Agar in Erliquin. Use an intentional encounter to return to upstairs.
  • Paid a GEM and transferring to Erliquin, met Agar and following next step of quest.
  • Go out to B1 and go to C1, C2. Find Marchants Pass in C1. Met and ask Gypsy about sign.
  • Enter to Sorpigal and transfer to Dusk. Met Telogran. After return to Sorpigal via portal of Dusk Underground (use teleport).

  • Go down to Level 2 of Forest, talk Statue of White Dog (use teleport x2) and get "Golden Key".
    • Return to B3 using an intentional encounter.
  • Walk to B2, A2, met the Druid Percella and get the "King's Pass".
    • In A2, player cannot use teleport. And will forcedly encountering at X:10, Y:3. Need to escape soon to erase this enemies.
    • Use an intentional encounter to faster go out from this area.

Quest of True King Alamar

  • Walk to B2, B1, A1 and enter Inner Spiral of Doom Castle to met King Alamar. After talk Alamar he gave the "Eyes of Goros".
    • A1 is same as A2, player cannot use teleport and need escape from enemies at X:0, Y:0.
    • Use an intentional encounter to faster go out from this area.
    • Before get the item, need to throw away 2 items (but must keep King's Pass and Marchants Pass) because back pack is reached full.
  • Walk to A1, B1, C1, C2, return to Sorpigal and transfer to Dusk.
    • After go out to E1, go to E2 (use teleport to skip sand area), E3 (use teleport to skip Lion Statue's Password) and enter Castle of Alamar.
  • Fake Alamar sent player to Soul Maze. Put the keyword in Japanese "シェルテム" (means SHELTEM) and transfer to Sorpigal.

Quest of Gold Sign

  • Transfer to Portsmith, go to B3, B4, A4 and met Elder man (use teleport to avoid an encounter).

  • Need to take rest to enter in Inner Sanctum (and need to solve Soul Maze). Talk Elder man at Inner Sanctum and send back to Sorpigal.
  • Transfer to Elrquin, go to B1 and Gates to Another World.

Samsara: Judging.
Samsara: I thought this would be somewhat complicated given the existence of the published run, but watching them side-by-side made it a very easy decision. Recently (as of the time of this judgement), we officially began allowing runs that forego major skips as a standard branch. The branch is meant to be flexible depending on the game and the skips within, and in this case it didn't take long at all for me to see how much more content this run has compared to the glitched (U) run, and how different of an approach both runs take to each other in general. That, combined with the excellent execution of this run, makes it very clear to me that both runs deserve to be published alongside each other, with this run remaining branchless and the published run being re-branched to "item glitch", which I have gone ahead and done.
Accepting as a new standard publication!
feos: Pub!

I may seem like the odd ball for liking a game like this, but this brings back memories of certain games that I played in my youth...only on the Commodore. I can't speak for the routing, but the speed and control of RNG seems impressive enough for me to vote yes.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? Does anyone have a screenshot suggestion?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Tough one feos. Since this game is mostly recognized for its 3D map running, perhaps the first frame of an entrance? How about frame 531. This would probably bring attention to any who have played it.
