Hello, and welcome to the new TASVideos! With a new site comes a new thread for reporting bugs and requesting features. The new TASVideos is much more receptive to change than the old one, so don't hold back! We can actually fix and add things easily, now! It's highly recommended you also post to the Github issues page for easier tracking: https://github.com/TASVideos/tasvideos/issues
TASvideos Admin and acting Senior Judge 💙 Currently unable to dedicate a lot of time to the site, taking care of family. Now infrequently posting on Bluesky

There are a number of wiki pages and forum posts that load images from media.tasvideos.org, many of which are now broken. For example, at Wiki: TextFormattingRules#ReferencesLinks:
https://media.tasvideos.org/guidelines/entertain.gif is now 302 → 404 Not Found. What it used to look like: https://web.archive.org/web/20210421212329/https://tasvideos.org/TextFormattingRules.html#ReferencesLinks. There are more examples at /Search?SearchTerms=media.tasvideos.org. For example, Wiki: GameResources/DOS/Jetpack#NamingConventions has many missing images in a table, like https://media.tasvideos.org/jetpack/guy.png. However, Post #184070 shows that some media.tasvideos.org images still work, like https://media.tasvideos.org/lsamson1091.png.

The Posts since last visit option on the forum does not work for me. It leads to a page saying No posts since last visit. This is obviously incorrect, since the main forum page says that the last post in Workbench was 1 hour ago, and I last logged into the forum more than 1 hour ago. Unanswered Posts seems to work. I'm using Brave browser, Version 1.33.106 Chromium: 96.0.4664.110 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Can a subpage that enables darkmode and redirects to the front page with dark mode on be created? It would be helpful for users that clear cookies regularly.

Thanks for spotting those; should be fixed now (https://github.com/TASVideos/tasvideos/issues/777). Let us know if you spot any other broken images :D

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post. It's just that I can't find a better place. I don't like the new layout. The previous design worked well and served its purpose, so I don't know why it needed to be changed. When everyone was talking about a new site layout, I didn't think it included the forums, too. I think the design could be made more appealing to the eye. Like it is now, it feels too MS painty. Mixing blue buttons, purple buttons and green buttons (when posting) feels like a bad choice. Bright blue text on grey background is a bit hard to read. Now it will be hard to know where everything is. I click on "Posts since last visit" and there was nothing. Which can't be true since my last visit was days ago.

Hi Mugg, We needed to integrate the style of the forum to create a single seamless "tasvideos" site experience that would be easier to maintain per things like accessibility standards. The github issue tracker already has an open issue for posts since last visit. Feel free to suggest style improvements there as well.

Great to see that the new site is live! More feedback from using the new forums and lists,
  • In the published movies forum, you used to be able to see when a movie was published (by the thread creation date). This is no longer possible. This is relevant for people who visit that forum to find the new publications (as opposed to new videos posted for years-old movies).
  • In both workbench and published movies forums, the thread creator is always going to be TASvideos agent, so this column can be hidden.
  • On any forum thread, "showing posts 1-50 out of 58945" is redundant to the "showing page 1 of 10" counter; it would be cleaner to remove the former.
  • I'm unclear why there's a Reset button on the forum, or what it does.
  • The tiny "link to this post" button should be on the right next to the quote button, and the same size and color.
  • On submission pages, the field for 'game' should be first. "submitted by" and "on" should also be fields, not displayed below the fields in a textbox.
  • in forum list, "last post" looks nicer if aligned to the top.
  • Description for 'general' is probably too long, and description for 'awards' is silly. Description for 'other games' says it's for movies for other consoles, but then what's the 'other consoles' forum for?
  • Arguably, 'the newbie corner' should be at the top of the forum list.
Anyway thanks for the hard work on this, and happy new year too!

Wanna support something that was posted in the other thread:

Would indeed be great to have a :visited link color reintroduced. I have /NewMovies bookmarked, and check that every couple of days, and I used to always immediately see where I left off and what is new. Now, with all links being the same color no matter what, this is no longer possible. :)

Please allow Profile/Ratings and Users/Ratings/(username) to be sorted by Entertainment rating, like how the Submissions page allows sorting.

Submission 5085 (the NetHack April Fool's' Day TAS) is showing a syntax error. I don't think it was doing that on the old site. Also, the category is cut off.

The new wiki parser is stricter about [ and ]. It should be simple for anyone with sufficient permissions to fix it up by hand.

I've fixed the syntax errors, not sure what is going on with the category name.

In the interest of clarity: Looking at a random publication, it has download buttons for "A/V file" (which actually means "MKV") and "A/V file compatibility" (which actually means "MP4"). People know what an MP4 is. People don't know what "compatibility" means if you don't specify what it's compatible with. I've never seen the term "A/V file" used anywhere outside this site. I mean I get it, it means "audiovisual", but there is a common term for audiovisual files and that is "movie". I would strongly prefer to label these buttons "MP4 movie" and "MKV movie" instead of using unnecessary jargon.

Don't worry about that, I already have a suggestion in store. I'm just waiting for the torrents and the mkv to be removed, then I'll try convince the site developers to introduce my ideas, little by little. There may be need for some negotiation with some other devs. Edit: BTW, the rating buttons are probably going to remain where they are. We'll talk about them after renovating the rating system.
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

Just for reference, we now have a Latest Posts page, in case the last visit doesn't work again.

Typing this up for a second time, as the first post got eaten by an HTTP ERROR 400. :( Previously each subforum had a little bubble with a white paper/sheet inside that turned yellowish if there were new posts in the subforum since last visit--this visual indicator was much faster to read at a glance than the new implementation of "15 minutes ago," "15 days ago," and "12/18/2021, 1:30pm." Previously at the bottom of the forums was a "Mark All Read" button, which would in turn change all the sheet bubbles to white, giving an easy way to check on a daily basis what posts had happened, and investigate subforums as necessary. I relied on both of these features a lot... their absence in the new layout is going to drive me away from the site. :( Also, I feel like the vertical space of the new layout is very inefficient. I recall being able to see from the "General" section clear down to "Other" without scrolling. On the new layout, I can only see vertically down to "Nintendo 64 Games," which isn't even half of the subforums! The new layout feels much clumsier without the swift visual references.

There's a bug with user files that I found. Selecting a system for a user file is supposed to narrow down the game list but it brings up an empty list instead. At least I can still select the game as long as I do not select a system for said user file.

I relied heavily on this feature too. I can live with using "Posts since last visit" instead of having the icons, but I can't seem to find any way to actually clear that view along the lines of what "Mark All Read" used to do... Which means I have to try to memorize which page I was at when I last visited the site.

Log out and then log in seems to be the workaround for now.

I thought to collect some of my feedback to the site after a week of using it in a single post. Some of it probably deserves a github issue, most of it is dumb stuff that only I care about. A lot of it is old phpbb functionality I realized I was missing after it was gone. Also, I have some style-based nitpicks. I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this. Please move the post if it isn't. First of all, the biggest complaint I have is that the site generally seems slower than before. While I can't measure the exact time difference to before, certain pages have a noticeable delay before clicking a link and the page actually materializing. This considerably affects browsing the site in my eyes, especially if you wanna click around. I particularly notice this with the forum overview and individual board overviews. Other pages, such as wiki pages, seem fine, so I assume it's because the site has to do a lot of work generating these pages. I wish I could offer some more concrete help about this. This is the only serious complaint I have. (Edit: I should mention that I'm using Firefox. The site overall seems a lot more snappy on Chrome. If I disable CSS on Firefox, it also generally seems better. I can try getting some concrete numbers if desired.) Edit 2: Recent updates made the site feel much more responsive. Good job! I no longer have complaints regarding the matter. I'll strike through points below that were addressed. Other assorted nitpicks I want to moan about:
  • I tend to access the submissions through the workbench. The autogenerated workbench thread has everything I tend to care about for a submission, except the judging status. That is missing compared to before.
  • Banned Users should have some kind of indication on their profile and their posts that they're banned. Currently, it just says nothing, which is confusing.
  • It took me a while when using the forum initially to realize that signatures are highlighted with darker background. That looked pretty odd to me at first. Now that I've gotten used to it, it's less strange but still.
  • I'm not sure what the Reset button in the page select does that the "Back" button doesn't
  • The previous posts being visible in the "create reply" page was immensely useful. Currently, I always find myself opening a second tab with the current topic to have the previous posts visible. Alternatively, the quick reply box could be reimplemented.
  • It's kinda weird how when you preview a post, the preview shows up below the text box. If you edit your post, the old post shows up above the text box. It would probably be more intuitive if both show up in the same location, and clicking "Preview" on editing a post overwrites the previous view of the post. I would suggest to put it below the text box, since then you don't have to scroll to get to the text box when editing a post.
  • Move the Minor Edit checkbox to the "Post" button and make it checked by default.

Agreed!
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I would like to see the ability to change the date system from MM/DD/YYYY to the more sensible DD/MM/YYYY please, as I can't seem to locate such a function currently.
