Something I've wondered about is whether or not these runs actually are possible on the console. Recently I've been experimenting with a flash cartridge, which essentially lets you copy a rom from your computer to a cartridge which you can then play on the console. So all that's really necessary is something to get the controller data--perhaps some connection between a USB port directly to the controller jack. Could you actually play back a speedrun this way? You'd have to somehow sync the control perfectly on reset. If you made a speedrun this way, how could anyone detect it? Even discounting this, couldn't you simply connect the video output of your computer to a VCR and make a tape of a tool-assisted run?

Im most certain that it may be possible, although I haven't got the answer but Im sure my friends (who knows these technical questions) might know how it can work. Im guessing by capturing your play through your tv. By using a special program which can capture your run via tv-tool. Yes I think tv-tool might have a big role in this process.

Hmm.. Maybe i should start my own Speedrun site.. with a forum and voteing sections just like these if Bisqwit dont want to. But i have no idea how to do that.. it would be cool i think.. And have someone make a Non-slowdown-Rerecordable emulator.. could make things interesting. records would be changeing alot and alot. Would anyone like it if i tried to make a site/forum (just like this one) for speed runs? If i get enough people who would want it.... i think i will.

I think the only way they can tell if a run was played on a real nes instead of an emulator is by watching the power on sequence. nothing else. Well i think i could edit it if i wanted to. Record a power on from something else and then edit the avis on the computer then laying back the avi on the tv and recording on tape...

There's no way you could have any sort of button-sequence input verified to be non-tool-assisted. Nothing is immune to a hex-editor at the very least. Video can also be edited. So yeah, the only real way is to have some trusted party verify it.
