You may limit yourself to one smiley and punctuation mark per sentence - if you really want to, that is.

Isn't it also kind of weird that in that WIP there was no wall jump at the end of the airship's boss to grab the wand like you did in world 6! Any reason for that!?!?! Do you realize how much time that could save?!?!?!? I love saveing time!!!!!! :D =D :-D :=D >:D XD
Your enthusiasm in TASing and saving time will never be matched, seeing your (over)use of happy smilies and exclamation marks.

Wow, the IRC notice to this thread caught my attention, thanks ShinyDoofy. So they made a 3rd Super Mario Bros? When was this? I thought picking up POWs and Vegetables was as good as it gets.

I thought that *not* jumping for the wand at the end of airships was the fastest method... EDIT: Guess I am misinformed :o

IIRC the wand was grabbed with the use of the racoon tail. not a wall jump. And yes, grabbing the wand above the screen is the fastest. second fastest is grabbing the wand at the bottom of the screen.

This. If you can show how to use a wall jump to get above the screen, then you have a time saver. Otherwise, the way it is done in the WIP (and published movie) is best.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I was always wondering if you can access the secret area without being raccoon Mario. Can you climb walls by walljumping repeatedly?

Impossible for two reasons. 1. Mario can't reach high enough to do one wall jump 2. Mario's speed is too low to wall jump continously off the same wall 3. The distance is so high that it will almost certainly cost time over obtaining the racoon suit.

Yeah this has been brought up before. What I'd look into for improving the Mario 3 run is to re-examine the routes for each castle. (3 of them)... but mainly the 2 in world 8.

You could always use M3ed . It proved invaluable when I was making the warpless run as it not only allows you view the levels on an editor you can also edit parts of the game to test other stuff.

It seems to be the spot where the screen starts scrolling.

How about the all-stars version (using the left+right bug)?

I think 2 would still apply in this case. Also, I think it's unlikely to save time, considering how many would be needed.

It doesn't save time in the all stars version.

I doesn't interest me if it's a time-saver. I just wanted to know..

Well, the original problem was that you wouldn't have enough speed with the leaf, because the top speed of the leaf in air is technically 23, where you need a speed of 33 to do a walljump. With Right and left, you can overcome this barrier, and therefore, you can do the walljump. You still won't have enough height without the leaf to make the jump though.

I noticed that in the current run of SMB3, the "weird sound" 1-UP glitch is used once, on the last 1UP in the first tank level of World 8. Just wondering, how come it wasn't used a little more often? Seems like it would be more entertaining if used in the right spots. Was it just an accident? If so, this is how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOhJk0PAp1A#t=01m30s

In the previously published run I thought it was overused and lost the effect it should have had on the viewers. That was the reason it was only used once througout the run. Your point at the end is moot, because the trick was well known before the run was worked on.

Ok, just checking since sometimes glitches are discovered during a run by accident. And I just watched the previous (now obsolete) run. The 1up sound glitch was used only twice - is that really overusing it?

As Mitjitsu said, using it once was an artistic decision, though I daresay we didn't spend hours pondering exactly what the right number was... For my part, the thought process was "We should have it in there. Ok, we do. Cool." :) It's perhaps worth noting that using the trick affects Mario's physics as it requires a tail-flip; so it's not really practical to use it many times during the auto's (as it would conflict with the pursuit of 99 lives) though an improvement could certainly decide to use it more than once or twice.

The special 1-Up sound ain't overused...I don't knoe how anybody can come up with such a crazy thing. I forget how many broken 1-Up sounds there are as well, but I'd like those to stay the same, too. A question about World 1's fortress...Wouldn't a corner jump be faster at finishing it? In a full run, it could be done in the spike room to go through the wall perhaps, but I forget how long that takes. In a non-warp run, wouldn't corner jumping teh first corridor take you to Boom Boom? Couldn't Fire Mario fry him faster than getting the Whistle?

There are no opportunities to get the flower before then. I don't recall the precise timing, but I do remember it wasn't close when I compared the 2 strats way back when.

No, that's slower. I thought the same thing, tested it on console and was much much slower... one reason being because the timer has to count down when you finish the level opposed to getting the whistle, another being that you have to actually go a much longer distance to kill the boom boom. EDIT: Actually it's also because sliding through the wall takes forever... I forgot.
