Alright, at end of first tank i'm 46 frames ahead of the current published movie. I think i can get +1 life at the end of the tank but that will require some more testing as i'm losing 2 frames by doing so (therefore losing the whole luck manipulation for the boss). I had to wait 5 frames to enter the pipe and get better luck. It *MIGHT* be possible that by removing the few frames of lag in the tank (i could only count 2, in reality) one could get the tank done 7 frames faster then. I also make an annoying flying move at the end, and since i still want to try and get that last +1 life at the end, i will probably remove it or make it more realistic instead of frame-by-frame (like how i did somewhere in the middle of the level, a little dance ^_^) http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/smario3j-foda-v3.zip Btw, this movie is able to "connect" two flying sections that were very hard to connect (to not land between them). Doing so i was able to get more lives, and less score of course. The thing is the best place to get score in this run is at the bob-ombs. I started the level going for score, and then when i got to the section i could connect (which looks better than having to land) i had to go for lives. I will count and see if it might be possible to get 99 lives on the tank (i wont try to, at first, but i will watch the movie looking for the possibility). Because the bob-ombs you can step on them and "save" them for hitting later before they explode. when you step on an enemy and then swing the tail right after, the game doesnt add +1 to the next step score count (or if 8000 the 1-up). it will repeat the same attack bonus. I was using that as advantage to get +8000 and lower scores too. That is where i could try saving the bob-ombs to get 1-ups instead of score. edit: hmm ok its not possible to get 99 lives just by adjusting the bob-ombs approach

I have done the world 1 with 52 frames faster than FODA. Improvment: At stage 2, I succeeded to run on the first pipe + running while going down on the floor increase speed a little At stage 3, I used the shell of the second turtle to hit the power up's block I have done an other path in the castle (running from the beginning), but the result is same as FODA's path http://genisto.servehttp.com/Super_Mario_Bros_3_(J)_Genisto.zip FODA: if you want, you can continue my run. I have tried to match your tank's level with my run, but it desinchro for different reasons (lags and instability).

Yeah, I had to use Phil's link from IRC, too. The movie is nice, but I think I prefer Foda's style choices... Except for that shell-twirling thing in 1-3! That's funny stuff!

Creativity blooms. I'm happy. :) But I'd appreciate it if Foda would rerecord from getting the second flute. 200 frames of random combinations of left+right+b+down aren't very cool to watch... <dan_> Suggestion: Either do some walljumps or the walk-through-walls glitch after getting the 2nd whistle. It would be better to exploit the game engine than move back and forth really quickly

Thanks. :) And I've got to admit I'm not even sure how I *COULD* abuse it - it's just an fcm movie, after all.

I think that that kind of movement is OK to do at a speed a normal person can reproduce. not frame by frame. I have already thought of doing some wall jump there, but i'm not sure of how to do it yet, i tried a bit but unsuccessfully, so i did something different. I have watched genisto's movie and it got me a bit depressed, i thought i had it but he made level 1-1 2 frames quicker. and then on level 2 he moved back to go faster, it would never occur me to do that anywhere but the start of the level, but he did it while going up the ramp and it worked. i have thought of going down the last ramp by running but my measuring told me it was same speed as jumping.. Then on level 3 he showed how to do it. He didnt kill the boomerang guy probably because the p-speed would be over after getting the tail. It looks weird for a normal watcher but its faster obviously. then the fortress he managed to get p-speed twice but then at the end his jump went at half-speed, he said its the same length as my version, but i'll take a look at it later. Anyway, we need to interview genisto, phil and walkerboh and ask them what is the secret :)

About the boomerang guy in stage 3: if I kill this guy, I was not able to reach the second turtle soon as possible. For the link, my Firewall was the problem. Some among you would like to know the secrecy of the perfection about the time attack Hint #1: if you have an idea and you do not test it because it too long to realize, you have a large chance to be imperfect Hint #2: Finding bugs: it's not easy to find it, because we must be very lucky, or we must test all every thing we know. Be a game maker can help too, because these people know how the games work (translation between frames, the gravity, how the collision works when a character touch the wall (most of bugs are related to the collision in platform games), ...): I am myself a game maker.

I still don't understand why the Japanese version is still being used for this.

What exactly is harder about the US version? Besides the shorter fading at the beginning of the level, I haven't noticed any significant differences.

I've been wondering this too. I don't see the reason for using the JP version unless there is something wrong with the US version, like for the sound in CV3. The only difference I can notice is the text and the wipes at the beginning of the levels, in which case it would be better to use the US. It would be much faster too. Doing a quick run on the US version, not optimized, I get a time of 10:50. Doing an optimized run with the new improvements, should get you 10:40 or less maybe. It would also benefit the people downloading. The JP version is much harder to find than the US v.

Actually, the US version is easier, michael fried. I think we have been using the J version to compete in equal terms with morimoto, but i agree that the US version is better for the time attack. I will use it instead :S and try to match genisto's work lol..

Yeah, I think it's standard here to use the same version of a game that a previously published movie used to keep things equal, unless you have a very good reason for switching.
