  • Aims for perfect score
  • Manipulates luck
Perfect game, or "Who needs a putter?", or Big Jumbo showing professional golfers how to really play golf.
4 holes in one, 11 eagles, 3 albatrosses, no putt. Final score: -39
Done on the USA course, but the Japan one could be interesting too since it's harder but probably doesn't allow a -39 score.
Played as Big Jumbo since he shoots the farthest (and swings the fastest). All waits are to manipulate luck, mostly to get good wind, but also to change the hole's position on hole 14.
The hard part about making this run is that while it's easy to get close shots and score birdies all the way, adjusting them to land right into the hole from a long distance requires a lot of tries and experimentation since the aiming doesn't allow enough precision ... I averaged about 70 re-records per shot. At least there's multiple ways to adjust a shot (aim, curve, club, wind and previous shot) so there's always a winning combination. I often ended up doing really curved shots or other weird things, but seeing them work anyway should look good.
The hardest holes to clear were 11 (221Y shot) and 14 (super rough all around the green), 16 would be too if it's even possible to get an albatross on it.
The ending is always the same, it'll say "Nice game!" whether I score a perfect -39 or the opposite, +144 ...

Truncated: Even though the ending score is impressive, the way getting there is less than interesting and not exactly action-packed. We spend most of the time watching the ball in transit, and very little time of actual playing. Not a very good movie overall, but inventive and original, which it feels a little unfair rejecting it. But that's what I have decided to do.

adelikat: Unrejecting for consideration of publication to the Vault

adelikat: After futher consideration of Vault requirements we decided that sports games are not eligible. Therefore, setting this back to rejected.
Noxxa: Unrejecting again for consideration of publication to the Vault following a rule change regarding sports games.
Fog: Judging.
Fog: With the recent changes to vault to allow certain Sports games, as well as my love for (mini) Golf TASes, I'm accepting this for Vault.
feos: feos.

I'm somewhat partial toward golf games, and while others may find it boring, I find it interesting enough. /golfclap

I loved the "around the rim then in."

It's not exactly Sonic the Hedgehog fast, but it's an interesting speedrun. I'll vote Yes.

What exactly was entertaining in this video? One could just fast-forward it trough in one minute without missing anything. It was just dead boring, sorry.

Well I was entertained for about 4-5 holes, then It got old. This game has the same problem that a 99-0 tecmo bowl blowout does. It gets repetitive and boring. I have to vote no on this, its just two repeitive and not interesting at all
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I also would like to see a TAS of the Japan course.

Yes, I, too, would like to see a Japan course TAS in addition to this one. 11-2, rejected for not entertaining? Hmm...s726, question was probably still "should this be published", but still… Only disappointed that there's no Fighting in Fighting Golf. I should look at this game's code sometime. I enjoyed watching it. There's one shot (5?) where it seems acmlm Big Jumbo skips the ball off of the water, and the around-the-hole shot was neat. The last shot was also interesting. There's only one shot which acmlm is obviously going "oh crap what do I do what do I do"/switching clubs/manipulating the hole-in-one. This is probably because it's one of the shortest drives in this course.

I posted something in the thread regarding the rule change a while back that's relevant here. If this is aiming for fastest time, it doesn't achieve it. The celebration for holes in one are just under 10 seconds long. It takes about 3-4 seconds to take a shot plus 3-4 seconds for the lesser Albatross or whatever fanfare. Time could be saved by adding a stroke to those holes. Since this is (presumably) under consideration for the Vault, there's a rule clarification/exception needed, unless the goal really is lowest time for these kinds of things.

Remind me if "Aims for perfect score" is really "fastest by any cost" in this case? Also ^
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

A hole in one animation takes 9 seconds. The animation after each shot made is roughly 4 seconds. Multiply that by two, you get 8 seconds. If you take into account additional wind up time and travel time, it's actually not faster to take two shots on a par 3 course in this scenario.
