This is an improvement of 123 frames (4.92 sec) from my previous User File.

Introduction:

  • "Prince of Persia: Special Edition" is an Adobe Flash game created by Ubisoft that was meant as a promotional game for the upcoming 3D title from the time "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time". This game only contains one level with a boss fight (Jaffar). The physics and visuals of this game are practically the same as the MacOS/Macintosh version. Basically, really slow and awkward.

Objectives:

  • Beat the game as fast as possible without the menu exploit.
  • Small glitch included
  • Obliterate Jaffar

Routing:

  • Well, finding any speedruns of this game were scarce. Also, from the PoP speedrunning community. Eventually, I came across maybe one good speedrun that didn't use the menu exploit which was a 2:05 IGT. However, this run didn't use the same route as the runner went around the gate room. So, I made a base TAS without testing other techniques so that I had a slightly better run to compare the techniques with. I'll show screenshots of a Google Doc I made for this.

Gate Clip:

  • While the transition of the gate is moving down, the prince can still make it through the gate with a long jump.

Google Doc Screenshots:

  • Green = Fastest Strat
  • Yellow = Strat saves time over previous TAS. But, not the fastest.
  • Red = Strat is slower than previous TAS or doesn't work/line up with other areas.

Special Thanks:

  • To eien86 for getting me hooked with his many Prince of Persia TASes!
  • The PoP speedruning community for helping me with optimization feedback from my first TAS!

Suggested Screenshots:

  • Frame 718 and Frame 2228

eien86: I'm a fan of quirky ports of Prince of Persia, and this one is not an exception. This is a small Flash throwback demo that came as promotional material for "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time". It has a small level and a boss fight. Due to its unresponsive controls, it is exceptionally difficult for casual gameplay. However, Rxser here dominates it with ease, including a nice gate skip. The run looks pretty optimized and is an fast and entertaining watch.
Accepting to Standard
P.S: Next time please include all necessary information for sync. Here you forgot to mention you used the AdFree.swf main file. This is acceptable, but needs to be communicated.

Always special to see a TASer in the PoP scene. The run looks well explored and optimized. Yes vote.

Thank you! In the future, I plan on a "100%" run of this game and maybe a MacOS TAS if I can figure out how it works. Although, I don't think there's much about MacOS PoP runs either.
