The 2025 TAS Jam Event: Simple Series Style
Hello, and welcome to the first of what is hopefully multiple TASVideos hosted TAS jams! I am Darkman425 and will be your host for this inaugural event. The main goal is to present a theme to other folks and ask them to make a TAS from start to finish. This extends to anyone of all skill levels, so you don't even need to have prior knowledge of how to make a TAS before starting. There's no competition against anyone else to worry about here, just making and completing a TAS that fits the jam theme is enough for this event.
The theme: Simple Series games
The Simple Series is a long line of budget priced releases by the D3 Publisher starting from the PlayStation and still kind of existing on the Nintendo Switch. The premise is that most games start with "The" followed by a few words, usually one, to give the pitch idea of what the game is. Please note that while the series is called Simple, that doesn't necessarily mean that the games themselves are simple.
I've been making a personal list of games in the Simple Series mainly for myself since none of the existing ones in English have been up to date. I prioritized completing the lists for the TASable consoles for this event so folks have a convenient list to check, although there's others out there if they need it. Please understand that at this time (30 April 2025 in my time) I haven't completed a list of PS2 games since the state of TASing those games is flaky at best.
My personal spreadsheet list of Simple Series games, feel free to make copies for yourselves:

TAS Jam rules
- Don't break site rules.
- If you wish to join the event, please do it in good faith.
- Granted, this is just "don't break site rules" but it bears repeating.
- Ampersam of SMW Central's staff has a good write up on what this means: https://smwc.me/t/125997
- Anyone is free to join regardless of TASing experience.
- You can work solo or with any number of other people.
- Any Simple Series game on a TASable platform should be acceptable for the TAS jam. This also applies to other versions of a given Simple Series games such as localized versions in other regions or the original releases before a game was added to the series.
- Example of a localized version of a Simple Series game: Shooter Space Shot for the PlayStation is an acceptable version of Simple 1500 Series Vol. 35: The Shooting.
- Example of an original version later made part of the series: Pastel Muses for the PlayStation is an acceptable version of Simple 1500 Series Vol. 20: The Puzzle.
- Multiple people and/or multiple groups are allowed to TAS the same game independently. It doesn't really matter if one ends up faster than the other since this a marathon, not a competitive sprint.
- Post your input file and/or submission (if you intend to also submit it to the site for publication) in the TAS jam thread so someone can verify it syncs and give credit. It'll probably be me doing it but if anyone else can verify sync then it should also be good.
- For games without an existing publication: the input file has to at least look more refined than real-time play, though it doesn't have to be super optimized in every aspect.
- For games with an existing publication: the input file has to meet or beat the current publication's gameplay optimization, or have a goal different from the current publication while having an optimization level comparable to the publication.
Your reward for participation?
Anyone who participates and posts their input files to the thread will be honored with this little badge I made:

Technically nothing's stopping you from just taking these PNG file for yourself but I do plan on making a list of those who have got the badge legitimately. It'll probably be a dedicated wiki page once this starts going so be on the lookout for that.
But what if I'm new to this TASing business?
There's a good starting point on this website where you can get started with some basics and a few video tutorials as well:
Wiki: TASingGuide
The deadline is 30 June 2025 at 11:59 PM UTC
This roughly means that this is a 2 month event to get your TAS done and posted in the thread. That should be enough time to learn about how to TAS and to get a reasonably optimized input file to share here. Hope to see your works by then, especially from new folks!
Feel free to also use this thread for discussions and questions related to the event, whether it be about the event itself or about specific games in the Simple series. Of course you can also just chat in the TASVideos Discord server but the forums is a more permanent place for any info that someone else could need for themselves.
