I think that you should indeed skip all the weapons that you can in the interest of time. I know there are people who apparently find getting more powerful weapons in an RPG run at the expense of speed more entertaining, but I have never understood this POV.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss all weapons as unnecessary time-wasting detours. I remember saving over 3 minutes in the Moleville Mines in my 2nd revision (the published one) compared to the first run through because I bought the Work Pants and Weapons before entering the mines, and it shortened the boss fights considerably.

Well definitely if getting certain weapons works better, go for that. I meant skip all the (weapons that you can in the interest of time) rather than (skip all the weapons that you can) in the interest of time. I was referring to people who would rather see an "ultimate weapon" or something "secret" like the Lazy Shell being used, even if it is a bit slower. It's not an issue of entertainment vs speed, it's just that I don't find "ultimate weapons" very entertaining.

Well, I finally downloaded the avi, after all, I did SAY that I would. And now I think that I'm going to watch it while I lay in bed tonight, waiting for sleep to over take me. Yes, I leave my computer on all the time mostly, watching Time Attacks to help me sleep. ;3

Get at least 500 gold. Talk to a kid in the Mushroom Kingdom. You need to be fairly through the storyline to get it.

Actually, the background in the Minigame seems to depend on where you are, cause I've noticed two or three different backgrounds for it.

If I remember correctly, the max is 99,999,999. I guess the time attack would just see how quickly it can reach that score, since there's no real ending to the minigame.

Hello everyone, I'm a new member here. I want to get into doing TAS videos for RPGs, and I looked through here and couldn't find one on Super Mario RPG. Since it's naturally a short game I don't think a speed run would be out of the question. I'll probably start playing around with it tonight when I get off work. I don't think luck manipulation will be too hard with this game, the only thing I'm wondering about is maximizing the amount of 'Once Again!'s I get.

I don't recall FF4 ever actually being TAS'd to completion. That there is FF6, note the VI, not IV :P In regards to the topic, I don't think this game could be improved by much at all, so I'd reccomend something slightly easier, as long as it isn't a zelda game (they're evil I tell you).

I was playing around with this game and found out that you can possibly for a lot of the battles, not let the enemy hit you, depending on the order of which you hit them. I found this out by the guys that jump in front of you during the 1st couple of fight scenes.

If you want to get into TAS:ing I won't suggest you make a long game for your first run, until you get the hang of it. Do Section Z for NES instead. ;)

Bumping to ask about timing for the Super Jump. The currently published run gets the Attack Scarf and Super Suit, which requires performance of one hundred Super Jumps. I know there is a timing change at around fifteen jumps, but isn't there another change later on, in the forties or fifties?
