Have you guys played this game? It's a really awesome racing game. It's a bit like Mario Kart actually but not that advanced.
You play as this small car who competes with three other small cars. You can get two kinds of weapons (missiles or bombs) to blast your enemies and you can also collect upgrades such as acceleration. There are also letters around the levels forming the word NINTENDO and when you have collected that you get a new slicker car.
This game is actually fairly hard. Sometimes the computers get superspeed and if they are not taken down when that happens one has no chance of catching up to them. Weapons should solve this though ;)
I think this game can go on forever because the levels just repeats themselfs after a while (with small changes such as oil around the level). However, I've heard or read somewhere that after level 32 it's starting over at level 1 again, so I guess that's where a TAS would end (if that's correct that is).
I'd love to see a TAS of this. Anyone up for it or are there any interest in it? If no one is interested in making it I'll put it on my TODO-list.
At some point in the game, if you start out in first the entire screen will turn black. I've seen it happen. You can still see lights on your car, but it's mostly black. I'm not sure if it only happens after 32 levels though or something like that.
From what I remember (thanks to my game genie) there are only 24 levels, and then they repeat. However, on the box to the game, it said 32, so I was surprised. Track 24 is a super-long 9(?) lap race, so it's a fitting finale.
I personally don't think this would make a great timeattack, myself, but you never know.

i tried doing a time-attack for this game awhile back.
The main problem is that it never ends. You could say level 24 is the last level, but you could also make a case for 48 since when it repeats the enemy cars become insanely fast. after 48 it never changes.
Personally, I'd like to see a time-attack for this game. I quit because of the difficulty of playing in slow motion. Its hard to tell how much momentum you have and whether or not you are "skidding" during turns. Of course that was with famtasia, I'm sure frame advance will help with that.

So when should one stop the movie? Is the box of the game the judge here? I mean, it sayed it has 32 levels, so one should stop the movie after level 32. That's what I think atleast.
Oh, I used to play this game. It's pretty hard, and it would probably look good as a movie. I would go for the first 48 levels, but if you think that's too boring, then 24 would be fine.
What pickups are helpful in this game again? Would it be worth anything to pick up NINTENDO, if for nothing else than to show off the other car designs?

getting the NENTENDO is a must! the final car goes SOOO MUCH faster and handles so much better than the others. You would loose a lot of time sticking with the truck.
I would definitely think picking up the letters would be a must. As adelikat said, the third (final) RC car is much faster than the first. In between car upgrades, it would probably be most useful to pick up acceleration and top speed upgrades.
Weapons, I'm not sure about. Bombs would allow you to prevent the other cars from ever getting in front of you, but it may be more entertaining to use missiles so you can take them out just before the get out of range. They would also allow for some tricks, since I believe they always fire from the nose of the car, meaning you could fire missiles backwards by hitting an oil slick.
Roll cages should probably be avoided. They are not necessary to completing any race, and the possibility of wrecking the car but never doing so (unless it somehow manipulates luck) would be more entertaining to me, especially on the tracks with tons of oil slicks.
As for where to stop the game, I would personally vote for track 48. That is where the difficulty is capped at its maximum, though some may be bored by this. However, I'd rather see it pushed to that point. I'd still like to see a Ghosts 'n' Goblins movie that pushes through the game the second time, but that's another discussion...
I loved this game when I was younger, and still play it on occasion. I would definitely watch a movie for it.

Agreed.
Missiles are probably the better choice, if another car is very near you I think you can shot them sort of backwards anyway, without driving through an oil slick.
Those items that makes you invicible for a period of time? I'm not sure that one should avoid those because when playing at full speed (at console or emulator) it feels like when you pick up an item you get a small boost. Regardless if it's a letter or an acceleration increaser. I don't know this for sure though but if they give boosts they should be picked up.
Edit: Ok, the letters might not get a boost. Oh well. It's not hard to try this though.
That's probably a good idea.
Me too ;)
Well. I'll see if I can get anything done with this then.

I'd love to see that one too.
I tried to start a TAS of this game earlier today, only to find out that I wasn't motivated at all. I might try again later though but I don't know if I'm going to do this.

I was messing around with this game today and realized something. Why would have to aim for first place.
Anybody who has played this game a lot knows that there is a bug with the orange car. If you shoot it enough there is a chance that its speed gets increased to max and flys throught the track at insane speeds. Using this to your advantage you could come in 2nd place and complete the track a whole lot faster.
This would also allow you to do some crazy things since speed won't be a goal at that point. for instance you could sit at the start line bombing the crap out of the remaining opponents and come in 2nd without even completing a lap.
I assume some might think its kinda lame never getting the first place trophy but I would give the author a hell of lot more freedom performing stunts and crazy stuff.
Also there is at least one track where a 1st place would be faster - track 21. The computer drives so poorly on that stage that a human player on a console can "lap" the computer even when the computer cars are at max speed! The orange car glitch would not help there so you have one good track of fast paced racing (and done properly you can "lap" each car twice possible 3 times!)
so what do people think?
I hope this isn't discouraging, but I think this would get very old, very fast. However, many others seem to think this would be a great game to TAS, so perhaps I should be ignored.
On the plus side, you did optimize the races well, but I personally would enjoy this game more as a playaround, shooting the computer opponents and such instead of just demolishing them every race.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were actually planning on doing that, I thought you just mentioned it as a possibility that you weren't taking in this run.
I'll watch the next update!

It looks great adelikat! I loved watching you bomb the orange car into oblivion so it would go super-speed. I think this concept would definately work, seeing as how you can knock the crap out of the other cars while orange finishes the race for you.
I'd like to see that. Another idea would be to "follow" the orange car by means of blasting it with a missile each time it tries to take off with it's super-speed. It would be fun to watch the orange car get blasted the whole race. You might even be able to pull a win out of it. That would be cool.

Guybrush: "No. I 'm lying."

Currently working on:
Nothing at the moment.
Well it seems like it takes a long time to get the glitch to work at this early level.
Overall, I think it's kind of neat, but honestly, I'm realizing this just isn't a game I think I could get much enjoyment out of watching. SO my comments here probably are best ignored.
