The fact that Xenos' WIP is further along than yours (and faster) and the fact that I released strategy runs for every unfinished cup is probably grounds for you to no longer consider it "your" run. There you go, no reason to be "nagged"! As for an update, I think about strategies for this game fairly often and have a decent number of updates I could do for new strat. runs. I plan to start taking public transportation to work for the first time since July, which is about when I stopped doing strategy runs... you may see something from me sometime this year.

What new strategies do you have? I don't know if it's been asked before, but I'm guessing for moo moo farm you can't boost around the finish line and get pulled out for a quick lap?

Moo Moo farm's finish line is quite solid, there aren't any quick spin techniques that we can use. The only thing that seemed promising on that course was a huge CPU jump into the middle far enough to get placed a half lap ahead. I was never able to do it, even with perfectly manipulated two player conditions (though I could use a moon jump code to get to a spot to make it happen), so I gave up on getting it to happen in a regular GP race. I'll wait to show other strategies in actual strategy runs :)

It's the greatest inside joke in the whole video game universe! You really can unlock him. It's really, really, really difficult though. It's also really, really fake.

Sort of a resurrection, here, but I've been playing Mario Kart Wii with my roommates lately, and it led to this train of thought: In Wii, you can draft off of other people to get a boost of speed. In theory, if you had perfect planning between two people, you could draft back and forth to get a pretty consistent boost, on top of whatever item manipulation you could create with the item boxes. I know drafting exists in MK64, too--it's just not as visually apparent. Does the drafting mechanism offer enough of a boost to be worth the trouble of a 2p run?

XkyRauh, regarding drifting, it would definitely be something to keep in mind with a 2-player GP TAS. It's hard to say whether there are situations where it would be faster, as it may or may not be possible to get a drift boost while constantly mini-turboing. You have to stay directly behind the other character for a considerable amount of time. However, the main problem with a 2-player TAS is that both players need to finish. To my knowledge, there is no way for one player to be the other player's helper and then choose to quit out / retire from a race. Given this issue, 2-player GP is really more something that can be used to show individual level runs.

If player 1 could go top speed most of the way, but occasionally go even faster due to drifting behind player 2, the slower player would still go faster than a lone unassisted racer. Or am I missing something here?

Thats correct, but the game wouldnt wait for the CPUs to finish, but it does wait for human (TA) players. Even if its a fraction of a second, it would still be slower

Yes, and the biggest hindrance is that many shortcuts are best performed by two different weightclass players. So, if you used two players, you'd want to choose a lightweight and a heavy weight to allow the best team shortcuts. Obviously, something that Toad can perform off of Bowser cannot be done by Bowser off of Toad.

My point was that the slower of 2 racers would be faster than the fastest possible 1-person time. See, if either player can go 10% faster while behind the other player, and they can both use mushrooms to exchange first place, their average speed will be 5% faster.

LR: 29"47: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oM80KFb1LHw I'm working on the start of a 150cc all cups run, this time beats Xenos' (29"71) but I currently have two other strategies that are faster after the first lap, so I'm still working on this. Those MyleStyle jumps are a BIG pain though....

Kyman, it looks like you literally did speak for all of TAS Videos... since you were the only one to comment ;) Thank you for the support though. I figured I'd share another strategy here, it turned out to be slower, but it looks cool and was quite hard to pull off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipH2EvqHfhY I have a couple other strategies going, one appears to be significantly faster than the 29"47 completion...

Hm, you'd think that keeping momentum on the turn would be faster than going to a dead stop and doing a 180. I am very curious to see what this other strategy is. I also have another idea, which I will post later if I can get it to work.

Hell yes, please finish this run!!! And yes the milestyle jumps are annoying. Those are what killed my motivation when I tried to do this TAS. I hope you succeed where I failed miserably.
