Yeah the current run is from two thousand freaking 9. It really needs an update. Update doesn't need to be perfect.

Also worth nothing, the current any% speedrun is 1h 23m 19s. The TAS is 1:16:11.05. Kind of embarrassing.

It's very nice to see Yuzuhara's works. Not only artistic, but also highly optimized. To tell the truth, I couldn't reproduce the trick at the entrance of the Swamp. In my opinion, Ice Palace part is originally by SuperSKUJ. I referred to this on my tas. Then, Yuzuhara improved this more. More zipping in the conveyer room and more swordbeam at the Boss. By the way, last time I posted this lua script.
https://pastebin.com/tsvLHw42
If you guys use this script on BizHawk, add this sentence at the beginning.
if not snes9x then
	gui.box = gui.drawBox
	memory.readbytesigned = memory.read_s8
	memory.readword = memory.read_u16_be
	gui.text = gui.pixelText
	gui.line = gui.drawLine
end
If this does not work, exit LuaConsole and then open LuaConsole again. Still on BizHawk, texts are overlapped with things like FrameCounter. So, positions of the texts should be adjusted. Besides, there is one frame difference in reading and displaying RAM between snes9x and BizHawk. This should also be adjusted by rewriting the luascript. This is quick fix. Maybe, the whole code should be rewritten. You guys can freely revise my scripts. And now, after watching Yuzuhara's videos, I thought sub one hour may be possible on glitched 100%. In addition, I forgot to mention an improvement for my last tas. When you get the Cane of Byrna, use a redpotion instead of capturing and releasing a fairy. This is slightly faster. In this case, visit the potion shop after Kakariko village part and then buy the red potion and a green potion for the Plaid world. I've not understood a few tricks shown by Yuzuhara, yet. Considering my ability, my environment and my real life, I'm not going to improve my tas of this game.

I'm gonna have to agree that the run strikes me as belongings to a different category than the "no major glitches any%" on speedrun.com The whole "take a door to one room, end up in a different room" doesn't fly for me. The recent super Metroid tas was controversial and all it was doing was going backwards though doors in a way. For this case though i think it's even worse.

Hi. I don't know Yuzu's thoughts, but he's said he modeled it after the RTA category "All Bosses No EG". Obviously he allows left+right and up+down, maybe more. So this is not a "No Major Glitches" category, nor is it labelled as such! It only disallows EG. EG is a pretty well defined tech. Well, it used to be at least. In ALttP, rooms can have two layers (bottom floor and top floor), and Link also has a property to say which layer he is on. This decides his collision map. For example he can move under a bridge on the bottom layer, but is more restricted if he's on top of the bridge in the upper layer. If you're moving around in a layer that is unintended (Link will in this case "appear" below the floor), you are using EG. What he's using in these videos is another category of glitches, which we call Door Glitches (Transition Corruptions is a better term imo.) It's especially potent with left+right or up+down. The most common way is to "step on" a transition boundary and interrupt the transition animation. The game will think you transitioned, but Link will stay put. You can keep stepping on the same transition boundary and jump multiple screens ahead. One side-effect of many Door Glitches it is that the graphical representation of the game might not be quite updated on where Link truly is. This is purely graphical and does not cause anything to be EG or not. What matters is where Link truly is (his coordinate and which layer he's on). Due to this, it is less obvious if Link is in EG or not at times, but there's no reason to assume he is, since Yuzu labelled it No EG, and he generally knows what he's doing. :)
Well, it used to be at least.
I say this because of the new understanding of the Plaid World tech, which looks like, smells like and tastes like EG, yet technically it has nothing to do with being on the wrong layer. So we should probably redefine EG to include Plaid World at some point.

Many months ago, I was asked by the ALttP speedrunning community to do some kind of commentary stream on my old 1:16:11 TAS... In case someone is interested, I'll do this next Monday at 2PM Eastern, I'll stream it together with BluntBunny from the ALttP community, streaming it at http://twitch.tv/tompa/ Doing it around this time because it was 10 years (Technically in September...) since I started the TAS and also 10 years since I created by Twitch account. Anyway, just some random stuff I thought could be of interest.

You are considered "not EG/ACE," when not "entering a different layer/different code structure (respectively)"—in this isometric video game. And given the uniqueness of this game's camera, that adds to the apparent confusion when viewing the run through. Or that's how my parse goes. When viewing the videos. I'm not sure what the transition corruption stuff is. Maybe it's not considered EG? (Not sure what's going through Yuzu's mind.) Perhaps you could enter EG with it if you wanted to? Perhaps a single frame in different desired scenarios would produce different results. Perhaps not. That could be my mind going wild. ...As it is, it looks to be all on the same layer. Grabbing the Swamp Palace pot when not 'walking down' the stairs is a bit strange, though. Not sure what the property of stairs is. It's like he goes down to the bottom layer without viewing the staircase walking animation/sounds, and then uses the door transition to place himself back onto the top layer. Uh! Then I wonder about all that faerie/death abuse layer stuff, let alone traveling to Helma. It all makes me wonder if there's an even further restriction to 'arbitrarily' add, to create yet another category and be "less confusing." Either way, given history with this game's people: don't underestimate the community to fall to the wayside about stuff that matters. OK that was a bit of a pointless interjection. This is MFKN Tasvideos, after all! No RTA's allowed! Anyway, huh? —Not secure | tasvideos.org/forum/posting.php

Yes, a corrupted transition can leave you in EG. (E) The first glitched run on TASvideos used two corrupted transitions to enter EG.

Hey. Brand-spanking new account, but an old lurker of the site. Been playing LTTP for a couple years and getting very involved with glitch hunting over the past few months. Got inspired to try TASing after Tompa showcased his old TAS with commentary. But enough about me. A couple weeks ago I wanted to start an extra serious TAS project that would involve more attention and effort than a week. I ended up deciding on 100% with no restrictions other than heart duping. I finished and showcased a first draft of this yesterday. I see there's already talk/progress of this category, but it seems to have been abandoned. I wasn't aware of it in any case. File: User movie #49548211791306277 Showcase: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/304204040 This is far from the finished product. This first draft was meant as a learning experience for the run and to get a couple ideas tested. The route is currently heavily based on the RTA route, but has a few key differences:
    Some dungeons are done much faster (Yuzuhara graciously gave me explicit permission to copy his inputs) I'm dumb and forget the sky island heart piece, and have to waste some time getting it near the end. 3 chest heart pieces and the red boomerang are routed into a series of glitches with the dam after Swamp Palace.
With regards to that last point, it may seem like getting 3 heart pieces from the same chest breaks the "no duping hearts" rule, but it's not actually the case. Each of those 3 visits loads a different room before opening the chest, so the 3 heart pieces obtained are completely distinct. In fact, if you visit the 3 rooms that are loaded (Blind's hut, Mire shed, Mimic cave), you will find their chest containing a heart piece to be empty. I decided to make an account and post this here as a progress report as I enter a preliminary phase of my 2nd draft. I've already got a few major improvements in mind:
    Cane of byrna will be obtained after the book by juking the entrance. Byrna usage will also drain a lot of magic in preparation for fake powder. Spectacle rock heart piece will be obtained before visiting old man. Sky island heart piece will be obtained after killing Moldorm. Red mail will be obtained from Thieves' Town after killing Blind. The armed EG for Skull Woods will be obtained by using paradox cave. Yuzuhara's Ice Palace will be borrowed. (Skipped it this time because I wanted the draft to be done and I knew how the remainder of what he did worked, so it wouldn't teach me anything new) Will try to activate spinspeed on the pyramid by finding the correct x-coordinate to perform a spin (RAM manipulation for plaid). Figure out how to 0-cycle Arrghus when starting from so far away without your sword already primed.
The run is also littered with small mistakes (some blatant, some that would require in-depth knowledge and analysis to find) that I've been keeping track of in my notes for the next version. I'm hoping to continue analyzing my first draft to find all the small things that need to be improved and continue searching for route changes. Eliminating my mistakes and just doing my new item route idea should easily bring the next draft sub 1 hour. Overall, I don't expect the TAS to deviate very far from the RTA route in terms of the general order of things. I will continue to look for ways to obtain items in ways that are only viable as a TAS strategy, and this may eventually necessitate a new order of dungeons. For the most part, though, the route is already very strong and was an excellent baseline for this project. Unfortunately for TASing, this is an extremely robust game. A single idle frame has potential to desync the entire movie. This means you can't really splice bits and pieces together, you have to start all over to create changes. I do think I'm ready to tackle the task though.

I don't know anything about LTTP so I can't comment on how optimal things look and are but this is a really beautiful video. I watched it in its entirety which is a sign of high entertainment for someone like me. Good luck with your second draft and will be really looking forward to it :)

Just finished the 2nd draft of 100%. It's an 11,170 frame improvement over the previous draft. There's still a lot of work to be done though. I'm going to start looking into more major route changes, then I need to restart from scratch again. bk2 here Tompa had a sit-down with me and analyzed about 2/3 of the draft (he tried to stream it, but Twitch was being wonky). I have a lot of small changes to make, but they're going to add up. Yuzuhara has also been giving me ideas, and hopefully he just keeps coming up with dungeon changes for me. I think my biggest mistake this time is getting hit in ice palace, slowing down the kholdstare kill a bit. The only other blatant slop is shortly after that, with a hit I didn't feel like redoing to avoid on death mountain (~20 frames lost). Overall, I'm happy with the progress made in this draft. The next draft has potential to be sub-57, especially if I can get a breakthrough with the route.

Just wanna post a quick update. This version is taking a lot longer because we're squeezing frames out as hard as we can. By "we", I mean me, Tompa, and Yuzuhara; the latter 2 have been contributing directly on this version, and it's saved a ton of frames. Currently sold on the beginning of the route, it just makes too much sense. More route changes are pending and being actively searched for though. bk2 here

Wow it's been over a month. Still hard at work everyday with Yuzu and sometimes Tompa. Here's a teaser. Ignore the rerecord count. I started a new movie and used a savestate. Also, our true progress is about 22,000 frames ahead of this, but I wanted to leave some surprises.

Cool new glitch that doesn't seem useful at all. Yet. Movie here. Doesn't make it into the TAS, sadly. Which, by the way, is almost done. Submission later this month. Hopefully this week. https://gfycat.com/ExcitableTornBoar

Is there any good resources for explaining the left+right on staircase glitch? It's a very (visibly) blatant trick with no clear entry from the viewer side that's not really known outside of TASing and key to the entire thing. LttP isn't known for being a game with crazy level of glitches (like Gen 1 Pokemon) and I've seen lots of comments for embeds have no idea what's going on. If there isn't (and possibly even then) it would be good for a Game Resources page that can be linked easily. We, surprisingly, don't have one for LttP yet.

Does anybody have an average game runthrough video of this game, for the modern-day emulators with rewind (SNES9x etc)? Tompa's old video only runs on SNES9x 1.4 which does not have rewind. I am planning to rip sprites from this game so that's why I need a video for an emulator with rewind and frame advance, and also since I don't know how to make a video before you say to play through it. Thank you!
