I checked this game out, and it looks like it would make a pretty crazy time attack. Thing is, this game has the exact same problem that Zelda 2 has. If you hold both left and right, you will go flying super fast in one direction. I actually played through the game using this glitch. It was a lot funner and looked a lot more amusing than playing this game normally. ^o^

Tried it on VirtuaNES, it seems that glitch only works on famtasia...

I was checking this game on Famtasia emulator and it has the wall climb glitch (like SMB), but just when you do the running glitch Sleepz was talking about. That will help you make the speedrun cooler.

A lot cooler and a LOT faster, yeah.. but would the entertainment hold on when you can't do it the console afterwards? ;) hehe

The glitches are bugs that are in the game itself. They are not introduced by an emulator. The wall-jumping trick in SMB, for example, is doable on a real NES (I've done it), but takes several tries just like it does on an emulator. If your "glitch" is as simple as just pressing right+left at the same time, you can do it on NES too if you break your controller or use a controller that has separate right+left buttons. As I recall, Wrath of Black Manta (NES) even has some techniques that require you to press opposite directions at the same time. (My memory on this hasn't been refreshed in ~15 years though.)

Are you sure about that? I dont have the original of the game so I cant test it. But I do know that Famtasia are the only Emulator that react like it does. If it is soo I would more call it a bug or something. :) Although I also test it with an Emulator to my Dreamcast and it did'nt work there eihter;) With the "Glitch" I made it in 12:50 and without it 14:50. But I have to remake the run whitout the speed trick. It went outofsync in the middle. ô_0

Oh damn. I wish I had checked this thread sooner. I just made it to the first pirate level. I've been using the glitch. It's cool to watch Buster practically fly through the level. Well, Frenom, since you already did this run, I'm gonna call it a night.

Pressing right/left at the same time also has interesting effects in Zelda 2. Because there are a few Japanese pages that discuss them and how to effectively use the glitch for faster times, they obviously work in the game. The Japanese do it by using a joystick (= plugged into the expansion port) and Controller I (= hardwired into the console with Controller II) at the same time. I think once I'm satisfied with my run of Link no Bouken (which will probably be the 3rd or maybe even 4th-5th time through), I'll make a run that abuses the glitch to the fullest, which should save considerable time (skip all action sequences, jump the river at Saria, teleport inside palaces, etc).
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

There doesn't seem to be a topic for this game so I figured I would make it. Anyways I have decided to improve Randil's TAS, I am already 2.6 seconds ahead at the end of world 1. Comments & feedback are appreciated.

That looked awesome! It looked like you saved quite a few frames on level 3, but I would be interested in hearing exactly where you managed to saved all that time. 2.6 seconds is quite a bit more than I thought was possible, so great job. I'm not sure if you know this, but the fastest way to turn around in mid-air is to press the direction you're moving in for 1 frame without holding B. Your X speed is stored at 0064, and performing this trick will immediately decrease your speed from 64 to 24 in 1 frame. This trick is not used in the published run. Let me know if you need any other RAM addresses or so, I have a bunch of them. I look forward to your next WIP!

I saved about 5 frames at the start of level, and then the stair trick saved most of the 2.6 seconds and then I think I saved another frame or two at the stairs that are spaced out in height. I didn't know about this trick, I think I could use that in 1-3 to save some subpixels here and there and maybe a few frames. I have all the RAM addresses I need, I got them from your submission text. Anyways, expect a redone 1-3 in the next 24 hours.

It should be possible to reduce lag on 1-3 (perhaps you did this), I remember that level in the published run having several frames of lag. The first water level can surely also be improved by reducing lag, as well as optimizing movements. EDIT: I forgot to mention another time saver I have found! As you know, when you have killed a boss, the black screen moves in on you from the four corners of the screen. The strategy here is to try and be as much in the center of the screen as possible when the black screen starts moving in on you - this way, the four "screen parts" will meet sooner, and you will save several frames. For example, on the skateboard boss, you can probably save a frame or so by picking up the key as high up and as much to the left as possible. I hope this made some sense, otherwise I can provide a movie file to show what I mean.

I didn't try to save lag in 1-3, although I might have accidentally. Thanks for the info, is it possible to use that on the 1-2 mini boss at the end? EDIT: nevermind, remembered it's a fadeout screen, TASing 1-3 now...

Saved 11 frames thanks to Randil, that was saved from lag reduction, the lowering speed trick, and the top left of the key trick. I think maybe 1 more frame can be saved from the key, i'll look at it now... EDIT: Nevermind, I think the key grabbing is as fast as I can make it. If you have no problems with what I have done so far, I will move to world 2.

i like it very fast... and creative at the boss times. the stair trick its amazing, and running backwards seems faster than fowarding. how did you find out those tricks?

Looks great, good luck with the next world. Again, remember to watch out for lag on the water level! The running backwards trick was found by Exim (I think) back in 2004. This movie was the first published movie to use this trick. EDIT: It's been about 9 days since any update now, how's world 2 coming along, Kyman?

Sorry, was in Jamaica for a week. ^_^ Anyways, done world 2. Saved 29 frames in the water level, none of it was lag reduction though. I found it to be impossible to lag less. In 2-3 I saved 53 frames in the second room, mostly from movement optimization and lag reduction. Not sure if I saved a frame or two on the boss. Anyways, I am currently 242 frames (4.03 seconds) ahead of your run. Download here :D

Nice! However, I found a small timesaver on the water level - by going down the vertical corridor around frame 10250 in an arc instead of going down from on the ground, your Y speed isn't reset, making you move down the corridor faster than in your movie. Sorry for my bad English, hopefully you'll see what I mean when you watch the movie. Basically the trick is to avoid resetting your Y speed before going down this corridor. This arc-like movement allows you to maintain your downward speed. It's kinda similiar to the classic "jump down ledges instead of walking down". Anyway, this trick saved 5 frames, hopefully you can incorporate it in your run without too much trouble! Here's the movie file. Otherwise it's looking great, keep up the good pace!

Yeah I tried doing something like that but I counted it out because I thought jumping in water would go too high. Anyways thanks, I guess I'll redo the water level and hex in 2-3. Also I need to redo some levels in world one because I am collecting way too many carrots...

I have a huge problem with Tiny Toon Adventures, which is stopping all of my progress. I have successfully completed the water level faster with Randil's trick, but I am having trouble syncing the rest of the old input into the new, so I am wondering if anyone is able to help me out with this. If you can: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1509907933/Tiny%20Toon%20Adventures%20-%20Copy%20%283%29.fm2 That's the new fm2, with the new water level. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1249095753/Tiny%20Toon%20Adventures%20-%20Copy%20%282%29.fm2 That's the old fm2, without the new water level but with the input from 2-3. If anyone can hex the first input file and then add the rest from the second, that would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Since Kyman has had trouble hex editing the parts, I have done it for him. The new FM2 is here for your viewing pleasure: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/36924055/Tiny%20Toon%20Adventures%20-%20Copy%20%283%29.fm2

Looking good! One thing you should look into is that it might be faster not to turn into the Sylvester on 3-1. It wastes quite a few frames to turn into him, and you don't actually need him on this world. The only places where it saves time to have him are around frames 21480 and 21950 in the published run, but with the new "turning around faster trick" the part around frame 21480 can probably can be done almost as faster with Buster. The part around frame 21950 probably saves some time with the cat, but I think it can be done almost as fast with Buster. Anyway, you might want to test this out, it's quite a big potential time saver.

LOL I was just about to post that I was making two fm2's, one with the transformation and one without to test, I guess we think the same ;) Anyways, whatever one is faster, you'll see it soon here.
