(Better version of the other video i made >_<)
This video was recorded on FCE Ultra (the modified version, available on this site).
  • Aims for fastest time.
  • Takes damage to save time.
The game itself is based of the Dragonlance saga of books (Go read those and stay away from the game =)). The main problem with this game is the horrid control.
Again, the game runs from beginning to end, aiming for less screw up (Wich im not sure i managed well) and good time.
In total i killed only 2 Men (Those retarded tall red looking things), i only attacked the dragons to make them back up, and i just ran through the rest.

Bisqwit: Rejected in favor of an improved submission.

I think that this video could be done faster, for example: some doors could be entered faster. And when you were in the sewers you jump through the first black dragon, why don't you use that to go past those first two? And overall this video is boring! I don't think it should be published. Only good thing is that author could stand those horrible controls. Voting No.

Looks much better than your previous submission. Seeing that you only used 171 rerecords I suspect you can still shave some frames off, but I'm not going to spend time with that game to prove it.

I think I must still press some buttons at the end, to reach the last screen, or I am wrong? The last screen for me is the black one where this message appear: To be Continued. And this movie will not reach this end. Only the points screen from each character. And some things looks not so good. I wonder, why you don't jump over the one spider near the end and get hit from here, what cost time. You most jump over all other spiders before this one and it seems to work good. Or is this not always possible?

Gah, darnit. >_< Oh well, i messed up, il just try my luck at some other game eventually then, if i go through this game one more time i think i may be permanantly brain damaged. Sorry about that. >.< And the spider... Well, weather i jump or not, he would still hit me for some reason, its the only spider im not able to pass without getting hit. Maybe it just doesn't like me? >.>

No, I don't mean the spider, which don't hit you. Wonder me too a bit. But before that you get hit by one spider, where you don't jump over it too. Or was it a desync by me? That were strange, because the movie played till you defeat the last Boss.

I noticed one other thing. When you enter to room, you always walk first and then start running. I'd would be much faster to start running immediatly.

o.o You have to hold the direction you're moving, let's say you're going left, you hold left, the char starts walking, and when he (Or she) is ready, he will run.

Yeah, i was talking about the one and only spider that hit me. If i tried to jump he would still hit me. It's the one and only spider who always hits me no matter what i do.

When I tried it, I could run immediatly by pressing up. You should try again, now you know how to make this movie a whole lot faster!

Hey all. I watched this some time ago and I also noticed some stuff that could be improved. So, bored as I was that day, I started doing a testrun of this game myself, using a whole new set of tactics than SeNn does. Here's what I got so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/473/randil_heroes.fcm All comments are of course welcome. I've run into a problem though. You know the dragon that SeNn jumps through in the sewers? Well, I can't seem to get that to work... I've come to the conclusion that you have to open the menu before doing it, that's the trick for getting this to work. Anyway, if someone feels up to it, I would really appreciate some help with how to get through the dragon (I think it's a dragon, could be a wyvern or something). Maybe you find what I've done so far at least somewhat entertaining. I know this game sucks, but it makes a somewhat nice TAS none the less. Well, enjoy the movie. EDIT: Oh yeah, my run is so far 42.05 seconds (2523 frames) faster than SeNn's run.

Just FYI I think you might need the staff the first girl (goldmoon) is carrying to kill the final boss... Also on the 4th green fish guy that shoots magic things you right before you get hit and avoid the damage, couldn't you do that on the 1st and 2nd guys to help keep in good health? Otherwise, looking good Randil... I remeber actually paying money for this... wasn't more then 10 bucks but still... getting kicked to death in the shins by little dwarfs... well I guess thats just priceless...

Good to hear that you liked what I've done! I'll probably redo some of it, for example I think it's possible that you that jump through the first dragon as well, plus there are a few other things I want to try out. Thanks for telling me about the protection from evil spell, SeNn, I'll try it out to see if I can get it to work :) And to answer Zalien's questions: Ah, yes you're right that I need Goldmoon alive to kill the last boss. I'll redo the run some to keep her alive for that. And about avoiding the shots from the green fish guys, I actually came up with that idea when I got to the fourth one, and was too lazy to redo the run to see if it could save any time on the first ones. I'll work some more on this later on today, I'll get back to you soon.

No problem =) And no you don't need her =P, if she dies, pick up the STAFF and give it to some one that can use it, you don't need Goldmoon, you need the STAFF =P Oh and Zalien, at least you did not get it for chrismas when you we're still getting the hang of video games... That game still exists in my grandma's basement with the NES... o.o

Good job on this Randil! But you just run through those flames that come up from the floor, Wouldn't it be faster to jump first (avoid damage from the first flame) and then run, or jump again??

Allright, thanks SeNn for telling me that I can let Goldmoon die (and believe me, I will let her die, harharhar). However, it does depend some on how much time it wastes to pick up the staff compared to how much time it wastes to keep her alive. I'll check up on that later. I'm glad you liked the run so far, Guybrush! :) To answer your question, I don't think that jumping over the flames saves you from taking damage. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe I actaully tried jumping over the first flame, but still took damage from it. But I will try it out some more, maybe I'll get lucky. Or maybe I can use the protection from evil spell here to save me the trouble of waiting. So there are a lot of things for me to find out here, I'll get a new WIP up pretty soon.

Allright, I have some news on my progress: To start with, here's the new WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/483/Advanced%20Dungeons%20%26%20Dragons%20-%20Heroes%20of%20the%20Lance%20%28U%29.fcm As you can see, it's almost identical, here's what I've come up with so far: It's not possible to duck under the shot from the first green fish guy, since the shot is too low, I can't jump over it either. So I have no choise here but to get hit. It IS possible to duck under the shot from the second green fish guy, but this is exactly as fast as getting hit. So at first, I ducked under his shot and continued the run. But I found out that how much HP you have is a huge factor for monster behaviour in this game. As you can see in the WIP, I can enter the door in the following room before getting hit by that shot. If I duck under the shot in the room before, the third green fish guy will move slightly differently because I have more HP, and I will not be able to make it to the last door without getting hit. If I get hit by this lizardman's shot, it costs me 2 frames. So the two choises are either to duck under the first lizardman's shot and get hit by the second one, or to get hit by the first one and avoid getting hit by the second one. The first technique is the fastest, so I chose that. Another thing you might notice is that around frame 4900 I don't get hit by the green enemy. I found that if you run towards him, turn back, and start running towards him again, you will run through him, you will see what I mean when you watch the WIP. This neat trick saved 9 frames. Unfortunately, there was a flaw with this trick too. Since this made me loose less HP, some enemies behaviour changed. You know the room where I jump three times to avoid the arrows to appear? Well, it seems it's not possible to get the arrows to disappear this time, because my HP is too high. So get hit by one of the arrows. This lost me 4 frames, so I'm currently 5 frames ahead of my previous version, wiiee! Maybe all of this was a little confusing, but to put things short, my problem now is that I can't get that arrow to disappear, the one around frame 6000. If someone could do something, like jumping at certain places or something, to get it to disappear, I would really appreciate it, otherwise I'll continue from what I have so far.
