AHH so then YEAH obviously I'm going to be using it as well... so, the input from the second controller can be used for manipulation, without affecting the characters movement from the first controller? why didn't you say so before? :P do you think it'll work on manipulating enemy movement as well, or does that just apply to your own movement? I think that may be revolutionary for other NES/SNES games that'd allow a 2nd controller for similar purpose. that means I'll be using two controllers as well, so a restart is in order... not that I was very far anyways hehe. psychoticworm any chance your new vid is done?

Not yet. I would like you all to know I'm not doing this for 100% frame by frame perfection. I already know my vid won't be accepted by the judges. If I were you I would just start on your run. The first video I posted is pretty much what I'm doing again. But anywho, I will try to finish it as soon as possible and post it. Another thing, that may be helpful for high score, but not really necessary to know, is that if you have more then 1 stock selected, it reduces your chances of getting the No Miss bonuses. If I remember correctly, there were times I used 5 stock, never missed any of my hits in certain levels(or didn't hit them at all) and I didn't get the no miss bonus, and No Miss Clear bonus at the end of the game.

I see, but maybe if you could list some of the changes you had made to get such an increase by race to the finish that'd be great. I'm not going to start right away, probably not until the weekend at the earliest or vacation at the latest. First thing is to redo menu navigation to incorporate 2 controllers into the movie file, and then some massive strategizing. I'll send a big post with a list of improvements for all stages before I start to be sure I won't miss anything. I'll have 1 stock selected and no worries of losing it at any point.

No Miss isn't not missing your attacks, it's not losing a life. Every level that you don't lose a life, it increases by 5000. Once your lose a life, you cannot get No Miss bonus for any of the following levels. No Miss Clear means that you didn't lose a life for the whole game.

Correct. This'll be no damage, no dying. The No Miss bonuses should rack up from each level, and the run end with No Miss Clear. I have my .m64 all set and ready, with two controllers, and just rechecked to make sure it works (it was desynching before, but Mupen was being a little weird. This is going to be a non desynching N64 run THANK GOD because it emulates very well) I couldn't get Direct 64 to work, as it's not there in the video settings options, even though I downloaded it and put the .dll in the directory, so I'll just stick with Glide64.

Yah, about the 2nd controller for item manipulation. I didn't say anything before, because I think I came across a type of glitch when I was messing about with 2 controllers some time ago. In certain situations input on the second controller would give "more random" results (in terms of spawning items). I didn't say anything before because it's really quite a 'random' thing and doesn't always happen. So I was reluctant for you to re-start your run by introducing a second controller. I guess it can't hurt. Maybe we'll find out what caused my results in the first place ^_^; Yes, I don't think Mupen has ever desynchronised on me. Although I haven't made a video longer than 5minutes =P

Try making a video of a N64 ROM with memory pack sometime, hehe... so, the 2nd controller thing might NOT work? yeah, maybe more testing before I went ahead and restarted might've been a good idea... I did save two frames though, however. If you don't mind testing, and finding if it's consistent or not before I start that'd be nice so that I can remake the movie file 1 controller instead of two before I get too far...

Ok well my major improvements are, I've shaved off 1-5 seconds of each level(even BtP BtT and RttF), got True Friend and Speedster on mario bros level(not bros calamity unfortunately), got as many bonuses for kirby team as i did yoshi team(same as first vid), acid clear and star finish on samus, and as of now I'm attempting to complete polygon team with no item, star finish, and maybe some other. Trying also to beat master hand in under 30 seconds. Also I've gotten Cheap Shot less amount of times. I've been having alot of difficulty passing polygon team...funny i dont remember it being this hard(I used an item in my first vid) -_-*

Yeah I tested this a lot in the past and it failed to be consistent. I'm just using 2 controllers at the hope I find something again, since it does happen. I don't think you should use 2 controllers though. I think you should continue using 1. Nice Psychoticworm, your new run should be great. It's 3am here. Bed time.

Alright then I will. a shame too, I think I overwrote my old file to do so. but I'll go fix that, and hopefully start by this weekend. anything special done in Link?, that's the first fight so if I get started this weekend that'd be the first fight to finish, I was planning to manipulate him to charge headlong at me, then instead of swallowing an waiting on the edge to fall off, simply to swallow in the air and fall straight down immediatly. I can spit him out safely by pressing A at any time, so no worries about hitting the bottom before Link is spat out. It's 10:00 PM here, I gotta get on homework, can't wait for the weekend to start on this.

Well incase you didn't realize doing that would sacrafice you getting pacifist. When you hit A they will take damage. The difference between letting them automatically be 'let go', and spitting them out manually is huge. When you let it happen by itself you don't give any damage. I'm pretty sure the strategy I used is the best you can use for the highest score vs link. I also beat him in 9 seconds(4:51 end time) so keep that in mind for whatever purpose.

oh. so much for that. I'm guessing instead to get Link's sorry ass as far to the right as far as possible to improve time?

Just get as many pacifists as you can before it starts to jeopardize the speed demon bonus. This restricts pacifists to single opponents.

Sounds just about right. The reason you don't want to go to the far left of the stage and suck-drop him is because you woble to the right when you have him in your mouth, so you wouldnt fall off, and it would waste precious time attempting it again. My thinking is if there is a bonus I can get to sacrafice a few seconds for, its worth it. Remember you are going for highest score, not fastest time, altho you do get a time bonus.

Of course, I think the time that can be saved in the 3 team fights can leave a wide range of available time to go fishing for points. Offhand, but wow we have made this quite the hot topic, I hope the runs come out as sweet as we hope them to be. Hrm I'm haivng a little bit of difficulty in restarting, in that I'm getting some weird desynch problems from how I'm starting the movie... is it reset ROM, and hit frame advance to pause game, then load movie file, or should it be able to play from the start whenever you hit playback movie, and let the ROM reset itself? nvm I think I got it. For future reference, to watch movies you reset ROM, and pause before the game itself loads to have it paused at frame 0, then playback the movie, and hit pause again to play it? I'll send .m64 and if someone can verify it works or not test if this desynchs or not psychoticworm what's your projected finish date/final score of your new vid? plus, you have the higest post/day ratio of 13, no fair! I thought my 5.14 was highest! lol I have a possible strategy for Mario Bros. to get brothers calamity and true friend... at the start, jump up in between your friend and Luigi and start doing smash+a until you've hit Luigi to the end of the bridge platform, and do a spike either two spikes and recover, or up+b. if all goes well, your friend will have moved left, and Mario will follow you slightly, and you can tackle him next. in order to get the best bonuses here: Friend must not be harmed Luigi must be beaten before YOU deal any damage to Mario. It's ok for friend to deal damage to Mario. If both of these cannot be accomplished, true friend gives more bonus points than brothers calamity, so be sure to start juggling damage to both at the same time, and keep them away from your friend. Although, TAS, with extreme effort, both bonuses probably can be gotten. But it'd be tricky, but awesome if I pulled it off.

would it be possible for either bkDJ or DeHackEd to encode AVIs of the stages for both runs as WIP .m64's are released? either of you two want to?

I'll let you be the judge. Same results with glN64 and Glide64 0.7

yeah that's a desynch all right... I noticed that happened to me a bunch of times, the only way I could have it run right was if I loaded the ROM, hit pause before the ROM started so it was paused on frame 0, and replay the movie file, and it worked... I assume I'm doing it all wrong though. Apparently the "begin recording at start" is not the same as record from reset, which lead to some problems with it not automatically starting with a hard reset of the game but more like starting input whever the game was at that point. what am I doing wrong? that's a shame too, I just got 4:51 on Link whereas psychoticworm had gotten 4:48. I think I just need to switch to gl64 0.4.1, because that resets the game when I replay the movie. So I'll remake using that plugin, see if it helps. um or not.... how do I start a recording of a movie using Mupen so that it makes it begin at the very beginning of the reset of the ROM?

maybe make a save state as soon as the rom loads?

I don't think that's it, I think that SSB input movies just don't like reseting the ROM before they start, I played back Kirby 64 .m64 that I'm working on and no matter at what part in the game I'm at, if I played back the Kirby 64 .m64 it would automatically reset the ROM and run perfectly, wgereas the SSB .m64 seems to start at whatever part the ROM is at; how do I change that?

the only thing I can think of is that you accidentally recorded over your previous m64, and the new m64 starts in the middle of the game.

I don't know. This is my first time using record from reset. Also, I can easily encode AVI's for you if those other users you mentioned are unavailable.

Hello again! Finally finished the video! man...beating polygon team was a pain, but finally here is the completed vid.. http://files.filefront.com/SSB+Kirby+VH+2419243wmv/;6278323;;/fileinfo.html 2,419,243 points! I would like to say it was pure luck that I got Fox as my ally in Mario Bros stage, but it sure helped to have him. Don't really want to spoil the video, but I'll let you in on a few details... During race to the finisah, it looks like I mess up slightly, and do an extra jump...well this did happen on accident, but I think it was good that it happened. It gave me just enough delay to get past the floating bumper by running, which is faster then doing a sheild roll at the right moment, or jumping over it. Not sure if it was necessary, but I feel it was a good thing to do, and by accident! what craziness! Anyway, if it turns out its not useful to delay for that split second, then thats fine. Other then that, I feel I could have improved alot on polygon team..I should have been able to get No Item bonus, and finish the level quicker(10 seconds longer then the first vid!!)...on a side note, is there such thing as a No Item Clear bonus you get at the end of the game? If not, then it probably wasn't such a big deal. All in all, I think this was a pretty good run, especially since I did it without using any slow down tools. Everything was done in real time using savestates, so just be aware of that folks. This will be my last run until comicalflop posts his vids and updates. I'm sure it will be very impressive, so good luck!

To record from the start you can pause at frame 1, then start the avi recording. Oh great news on that psychoticworm.
