• Used "vba-rerecording-17"
  • 40 line mode, level 9, height 5
  • Aims for fastest completion
  • Luck manipulation
The run manipulates luck in some instances by waiting frames before holding down in order to spawn the needed tetromino. The next string of tetrominoes derive from the number of frames during each placement, which I could control exactly. I always cleared tetrises since a lesser clear would require more animation frames. I found the best placement sequence by trial and error, choosing the fastest one and avoiding top-outs.
This version of VBA made rerecording very smooth. Because rerecording takes the time element out of the game, Tetris becomes more of a puzzle. Sometimes I would go through 4 placements on the same tetromino before finding one that worked. Although the run looks short, I doubt anyone would want to watch this for 30 minutes. A marathon 9,999,999 game would probably take about that long. And besides, players generally like to compete in this mode-- making it what I think the most appropriate for optimizing. The best players claim the world record in 1:13.

Bisqwit: Submission file updated.

adelikat: This run got little attention (only 4 votes) but they were all yes votes. It is short, entertaining, and has different goals than the other tetris run published. Accepted for publication.

This is my favorite version of Tetris for any console ever. The control is great on it. I personally like competing on Ultra mode Level 9 in this game, (Personal best of 197,378, but I've seen scores of over 200,000 somewhere) but this run was a good demonstration of 40 Line mode. I'll vote yes, but I don't know how many more tetris runs we need. :)

The gameplay is great, great luck manipulation. I have try the old black/white Tetris a bit in the past and it was very hard. I never done 4 rows in my try. But I played on Level 9 Hearth. Not sure if this Level exist here. The problem, for me the movie is not complete. When you press Start at the end you will see a little ending with firework. I think this should be added in this movie. So I will not vote in the moment. But great work, the last button is only missing I think..

"but I don't know how many more tetris runs we need." anything over 1 pushes it? =b about the last button thing-- i don't agree. the game ends when the last line clears.

I don't think so. For example, when I stop my Final Fantasy Adventure Speedrun when I defeat the last Boss you will not see the complete ending. It will hang by the first message with the hero and the girl. All movies here on this site play the complete ending from a game. So when it will maybe later be a movie file avaible from this Tetris game the movie ends and noone see the complete ending. I think this is an ending which should be played, like in every other game. This is the main reason, why someone complete a game, to show the ending. Edit: voted yes now, I already watch the movie without the ending. So when only the ending is added there is no need that I watch it again. But thanks for the update, so later the movie is much more complete for me when I download the avi file. :-)

okay, added the extra input, but i certainly don't think a player competes in a game mainly just to see the ending. enjoy the fireworks.

On this site, the rules say that a game-completion movie must contain the necessary input for the game to actually complete the whole ending scene.

I think so, because it's inherently the same game as the NES and Gameboy Tetris games, just with tighter controls. I voted yes anyway because this is my favorite of those versions.

well, tetris dx has looser controls if anything comparably. even so, there exist many subtle differences between any two tetris releases. for example, tetris dx first implemented more symmetrical rotation-compensation rules that later games followed, and it allowed for ultra and 40line modes.

Well I was entertained, and I voted yes. I too worry about having so many Tetris games on the site. This one is good though and deserves to be published along side any of them.

There is only 1 other comparable tetris game published, NES tetris. In addition, the goals are different (fastest high score) so I don't think there is a conflict with publishing this run. It was impressive, short, and entertaining.

Worked fine for me. I've figured out my mistake from when I was trying to encode NES games and will take on encoding this (if VirtualDub will stop crashing on me!).

Probably the fastest paced tetris run on the site, not counting Tetrisphere. Not something unpredictable, but the short length makes up for that. Voted yes.
