I ran into my first problem with the Gens emulator. The recording desynced after the first level, so I have to start over from Emerald Hills 2. I found a killer shortcut for Chemical Plant 2, but I only got it working once, and it seems impossible to do again. So, Ill just leave it for another version. The video looks crazy so far. Here are the new times: Emerald Hills 1 - 0:20 Emerald Hills 2 - 0:38 Chemical Plant 1 - 0:23 Chemical Plant 2 - 1:05

I started my first time attack movie on sonic 2 instantly when I found out about gens with rerecording (and that was today since I hadn't checked this site for a long time). I have played to Chemical plant 2 and all three levels are just as fast as yours (well maybe not exactly but in time units). I'll check if I can keep up with you :)

By any chance is it the post-loop jump (in Knuckles 0:34, the one taking place at 0:13)? Or does it have something to do with skipping out the pipelines in the level (something Knuckles can do automatically, but Sonic can still get in replicable form by using 2P Tails)?

well im currently trying to beat Chemical Plant Act 1 in 22 seconds im looking at Steganos's vid of 23 seconds and ill see what i can do to get 22 seconds and btw i garuntee im not giving up on it. Due to because its a great game and i dont want to let anyone down and there be no speed run for this game... So Xebra can have Sonic 1 and ill try and nail this game

As I told Chao when he asked me about 0"18 on EH1 ... in any given Sonic 2 run it's pretty much a given you aren't spindashing enough, you aren't jumping in the right spots, and you are sapping away your faster than maximum running velocity by prematurely pressing forward. I don't want to sound like an ass, but I achieved 0"22 on a console. I really believe Chao or someone else has it in them to figure this one out.

Sonic 1 is much worse for this than Sonic 2. S1 has a very low 'maximum' velocity, but it is possible to go faster than this if you are propelled by a spring or other object. As soon as you press forward you slow to that 'maximum' speed.

A good way to get going fast is to get thrown into the cieling or a curvy portion of the ground while rolling. For a good example of this see SY2 in my partial S1 run. I'm probably moving at 3-4 times maximum velocity after jumping into the cieling at the end. I'm not sure what quirk of Sonic physics causes such massive accelerations, but it is consistent throughout all of the Genesis games.
