It's an unimpressive attack of the game (but better than the one that exists for the overseas version at least). I'm making another but it'll be a while.
How about doing a timeattack using the USA NES rom with FCEU?

The new run is very good, I must say. My only question is why do you (Arc) attack whenever you go down screens on the elevator? It seems pointless.

You may have to "turn the disk over" before starting the movie. Look under Config -> Key -> Shortcut. I believe the default is F6. Before I did that, I got a "disk error."

Moving downward in elevators doesn't act the same way as moving upward. When moving downward, Link refuses to walk left or right. I attack the wall to bounce Link where I want him to be.

About the second last palace.. When you turn into a fairy to fly over that gigant heap of lave. Why do you wait so close to the lava before you use the magic instead of using it directly? To me it seems unlogical that it would save frames to go vertical instead of horizontal. Woulden't it save some frames if you executed the spell earlier in the room? I'm a bit drunk while writing this but I think you guys will know what I mean. Doesn't seem time saving at all to me. Other than that it's a great run! I really love how you deal with the bosses.

Gah! I can't seem to get any of my fds roms to work in Famtasia. I get all kinds of illegal opcodes, and even if I turn them off, I get no picture whatsoever. The bios seems to work okay (I dragged/dropped it into the program to test), and it's in the right place. These same roms work flawlessly in VirtuaNES, but I can't get them to run on FCEUltra, either. Do I have to hex-edit the roms to remove the "diskdude" thing? Edit: Nope, there's no "diskdude" string to remove. I have no idea what's wrong here.

Just making sure- this has nothing to do with keyboard settings and the whole not being able to push certain buttons ont he same row or whatever simultaneously thing right?

It is due to the game and not the keyboard. As for the fairy question, no time is lost. I activated fairy at the last possible frame prior to hitting the lava for amusement, and I also do not have to do any enemy dodging whilst there.

How big is your fds file? Mine happens to be 127 kB.

Hi Bisqwit. Was wondering if its possible to a new avi file on this timeattack? Reason? Well its kinda strange that sonic3 is more vivid, colourful and veeery motionful (with a avi-size of 262mb) that you didnt try to code it with higher bitrate (`cause you know this game is well worth it). Sincerly: Mister Anger AngerFist. Thank You Sir, over and OUT.

Angerfist - Have you noticed the speed in the Sonic games? The filesize has to be larger as you need to change alot more graphics faster in that game. The Zelda games aren't that fast or doesn't contain alot of moving objects at the same time. You want to keep the sizes down so that it will be a comfortable download. Not everybody have great connections. Some people are even on regular 56k modems! If you had made the sonic movie smaller you would only see chunks of colors moving around in a big blur. The Zelda AVI is good enough to watch. I mean.. 150Mb for ~1hour movie. This is not a DVD-rip site. We watch speed runs. And if you want better quality you could always go ahead and download the emulator movies. That will give you full quality and alot smaller filesizes!

127kb (131,016 bytes) 'Twas freshly downloaded from a major French rom site. EDIT: Ah-HA!!! The problem was with my bios file. It was the 40kb version. I got a 8kb version from that same site, and now all FDS files work. Whee!

Good observation. But hey we are almost in the year 2005 and peps who have 56kmodem well "no comment about that" but I have a 10mbps connection and alot of discspace and your comment about "This site aint no dvd-rip" well I havent asked if Bisqwit could code it with a file size of 1,2 Gig. My point was it wouldnt hurt if the quality was a little better. Look at Palantiums bitrate run. Now THATS QUALITY (not saying the avi from Arc should be the same filesize but a little better bitrate wouldnt hurt though). Over and out!

OK, I think the American version deserves a separate thread (and its own run, eventually), as the two versions are quite different. Just a quick question for starters, how much faster do you think this would be than the Japanese one? -Josh

Wow, under 50? Impressive. I know about the lack of load times and the ability to grab items as Fairy. Are there any other timesavers I'm missing? -Josh

Just curious, are you doing two-pass encoding on these avis? That seems to help a great deal, especially in fast-motion scenarios where the regular predictive logic of the codec breaks down

You don't have to worry about losing levels when restarting so you would be able to do that a few more times as well.

Arc: Ah yes, forgot about that. Also, speaking of level 5, do you think the giant would take longer than Helmethead or whatever his name is? kopernical: That is true, but then you have to remember than level-ups are less frequent in the US version. Not too sure how that balances out... -Josh
