Your movie file says "Savestate required" when I try to play it. (Gens movies sadly do not include the savestate.) You shouldn't record movies from save states anyway, if they are with a competitive purpose.

When you go to "record new movie", don't check "record from now and make savestate".
Your movie should start from power on.
After that, it's okay to use savestates you made during the movie to resume recording, or to go back and correct mistakes.
This can be done in two ways:
1) Loading the savestate while your movie is recording.
2) When loading the movie, choose "play from savestate" under "playing options", click the button to the right marked "...", and then click "resume record from savestate"
Please note that only savestates made while recording your movie will work when loading, otherwise there will be a number of frames where every button is pressed, or your movie will desync at the frame number the savestate had.

First of all, I'm glad to see someone taking a stab at this game.
In critique to your run so far, I am assuming you are going for overall time before in-game time, since you waited until 30 seconds to finish the level. This is purely up to the author.
However, I don't think this is a good reason to include sloppy play - things like bumping into platforms and losing your forward momentum, slowing down to get rings when there are others that could be obtained quicker, overshooting the ring count, and slight delay at the beginning before jumping. Although it's not affecting your total time in the level, it detracts from the entertainment factor.
If you want to go for overall time before in-game time, it's probably best to still do the level as quickly as possible, and save the waiting for the end of the level. Otherwise, it doesn't look very tool-assisted.

I was just wondering what are the best levels to get 50 rings in. From my movie I can't achive the same luck as JXQ got at the start of level 2. So it may be worth skipping the boots and maybe instead going for 50 rings.
The stages I thought of for getting 50 rings are
Green hill 1+2
Spring Yard 1+2
Fatal Labrinth 1
Star light zone 2
Scrap brain 1
There just off the top of my head, it would be great if people came up with some other suggestions. I wonder if its possible to beat the game in less than 30 mins (all emeralds of course).
AKA, to bounce off that bee in GH2 you don't need luck, you need timing. You just have to get up to it at a particular time. You may have noticed that in his run, JXQ does not traverse the first portion of the level as fast as possible (he could be a few frames faster) because if he was faster, the bee would not be in the right spot. If you are having trouble with the timing, you could probably hexedit that portion of JXQ's run into yours and it would probably work.
OK thats useful to know, I know JXQ would have obvious objections to me hexediting level 2 out of his run, but I would certainly want the part up and till he gets the speed boots as I want to experiment if its possible to get 50 rings, I fear that its unlkiely though. Now you say it, I don't think any of the levels are randomly setup i.e. millesecond later would cause a different setup.

Edit: Does anyone no any tricks that can be used on the speacial stages or a beter way I could of done mine. I think I spent over 60 re-records doing that special stage. Goodness knows how many these other stages will take. The stages are certainly a different league from Sonic 2+3
just so you know, it took SprintGod a good 160 000 rerecords to make sonic 3 & knuckles' movie. so spending 60 rerecords it a very very small number. I hope you have a lot of patience ^^

Yes it is very small amount, but just think how many rerecords the other vastly more tricky stages will take. Its not to bad when your playing it on a console as the frustration of it never really got to be, but the robotic rotation and lack of control is very frustrating as your not trying to pull off a trick e.g. glitch at the start of stage two or Scrap Brain Zone trick.

I've been trying to pull of the glitch at the start of Act 2 and its not coming off, I studied JXQ's movie very closely be slowing it right down to 3%, but I don't get the big bounce from the bee like he does

Hold down the jump button when you jump on the bee and keep holding it down. Enable "Show Input" (Options > Misc...) to see how tricks are done.
On the Special Stage, you bump into the ball and lose time. It's easy to avoid it, but even better, you could try using them to get boosts forward.
Are you refering to the star shaped thing at the start, that is intended because hitting the 'R' (reverse) balls allows the stage to be rotated in the oposite way. I'm generally pleased with the outcome of the stage at the moment I like it when I jump at the R switch to reverse the stage multiple times at the end. I'll try your advice right now and get back to you shortly.

I know I know my version of Act 2 is nowhere near as fast as JXQ, but I followed one of bizquit's rules and that was to do something completely unexpected and since both our runs aren't going directly head to head, therefore there not comparable. I think it may take a few people by surprise, but I guess most of you will want me to redo this stage, but I'll hexedit it later once I know how.

The maneuver might have been completely unexpected if it wasn't a known trick. As it is, your run just looks ... really, really bad. Many people can play more convincingly on the actual console. I apologize if that sounds harsh, but it's true. I'm not a judge here, but I am very confident when I say a run of the quality you are making will never be published. If you are just making this for fun and don't care if it is ever published, then by all means continue having fun.
I think your idea of making a run with all the chaos emeralds has merit, though most people probably think it's unnecessary and unentertaining because the bonus stages are boring, gathering 50 rings detracts from the levels, and you get nothing to show for your troubles. So far, I don't see you proving them wrong.
Very well Xebra, but I know from the previous thread that obviously no matter what I do, your obviously gonna say that you could beat this time on a console anyday and yes someone doing a single stage time attack could come close to every subsequent stage I do. I thought of a better idea anyway, I'm gonna get redo it, but get the boots and collect 50 rings, I'll probally complete it in roughly the same time. I'm convinced there is some imaginitive ways and devations in routes that only cost an extra 3-4 seconds and collect 50 rings. I would be happy just to finish the run whether people choose to watch it or not. If it appears bad then maybe that would inspire other people to beat it.

I just watched JXQ's run in full and know how difficult an all emerald run will be, but like I said there will be creative ways round it which is one of the reasons I've decided to do this.

Does anyone happen to know off-hand what <30 second time completion will give the same real time as 30 seconds with the differing bonuses?

Well, each 100 points of time bonus takes a frame to count down.
There's 40k difference between 50k and 10k, so that's 400 frames, or 6 and two thirds seconds. That works out to about a 23.
Ok I have done a little more work and two things
1. Act 2 isn't perfect although fun to watch
2. I'm not doing JXQ's route fot that level because I'm getting 50 rings
Here's the dummy run for Act 2 I don't get 50 rings as I was just testing out on a pure speed basis based on the route I used. I reckon if I re-align jumps and deveate slighly I think I could complete the stage in 22 secs.

Finally done and oh boy was it hard. I had to retrace my steps several times because I found I didn't have enough rings at the end and I astonished myself by beating act 2 in 21 secs with 50 rings.

Here's me completing the second special stage. It wasn't as hard as I thougt, contradictiory to what I said, as there was no real need to manipulate the bouncers as I was able to avoid them. I avoid the one at the end by a pixel and the jump mid way through to avoid the R had to be almost pixel perfect.
I was just wondering can JXQ's Act 3 level be improved because I couldn't really nit pick anything out of it except the robotnic battle, which judging from the video, it must be impossible to finish him in one go.
I'd rather just hex edit it, if I knew how.
