Pirate_sepiroth and I were talking in IRC and we decided we wanted to make a completely ownage run of The Legend of Zelda. We don't actually have the patience or skill to improve upon Phil's run, so we quickly came to the conclusion that it would be much more entertaining to impose arbitrary restrictions on the run, rather than aiming for speed or accuracy:
  • No burning down of any trees, except where required.
  • No shuriken.
  • No shuriken really means 1 shuriken.
  • Don't start the game as soon as possible because the intro music is really nice.
This will be a speed run, yes, but it is not meant to compete against Phil's time. This is a glitch/entertainment video, meant to show ways of playing the game that would most definitely and absolutely be totally and completely 100% without a doubt impossible without tool assistance, such as figuring out how to use a shuriken in a game that has no such item. Let pirate_sephiroth and me know what you think! We should have a WIP up soon!

This idea is stupid, absurd, and crazy. I love it!

Lmao. Your opinion is null and void. You don't seem to understand how insane this run is; I'm surprised we can even do it with the restrictions we've placed on ourselves. Our idea is stupid? You are stupid. Read my post again, read that we're doing the game in an unorthodox way rather than just boringly rushing through and killing everything as fast as possible, even if it means burning down a tree. If you don't like runs that don't focus only on speed, then good for you.

Maybe you could end the game with a crash, too! BONUS POINTS IF YOU MAKE THE WHOLE ROM GO NUTS

An environmentalist run! A truly environmentalist run would be near impossible since killing any of the dragon bosses would not be allowed. They ARE endangered species you know! Also going to level 7 should be avoided to. DRYING UP A LAKE, are you kidding me?! You are completely destroying that eco-system. How many fish have to die for your seflish pursuit of triforces! Killing centuars should be maximized. They are half human and therefore likely destroying the environment (at least halfway). Just look at the areas they are in. It all a bunch of brown, decaying trees and graveyards. Surely they are the cause of this destruction.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Improving the second quest, or making a swordless movie sounds cooler... Either way, if this is made... it should make absolutely no sense.

Or you could make a run with the boomerang glitch using the FDS version.

I think you should let the intro run because I like the music and it's perfect to me and very high quality.

Since the Genesis forum doesn't get much love, possibly some of you don't know that this thread is just a spoof of this one, and born of a mildly entertaining IRC conversation pirate_sephiroth and I had. Anyway, we may as well make this topic useful. Has anyone done any serious planning for a swordless run? Are there any other interesting restrictions we could place on the game?

I think this movie is going to completely not going to suck. That's my opinion. =P Well, I'll make my opinion when it's finished. Show previews soon.

Hmm, well, we don't actually have a movie idea, yet. But we're willing to entertain suggestions.

Read his post again, nitwit. He said he loved the idea. Where from that you concluded he "doesn't like runs that don't focus only on speed", I do not know. Maybe you've been drinking too much urine from the ugly horse featured in your avatar?

Oh man. The Zelda in Zelda II would be rolling over in her golden sarcophogus at the sight of this thread. The sight... if she wasn't comatose.

I have doubts that you read the entire first post. Surely you would have seen the following had you done so:

lol what an idiot. hey, you guys don't want the video, or you only want lame speedrun only videos, fine by me. :D anyone can speedrun shinobi III without tool assist. using tool assist to speedrun shinobi is completely retarded as anything done with tool assist in a speedrun-only, no limitations run can be done by a human easily. i welcome anyone else to try and beat my time with the limitations i made, aka making shinobi actually interesting, but honestly, considering that so far maybe two people have shown actual knowledge of the game, i really don't think that's possible. but hey, good luck anyways. you guys don't want the video, you think it's not hitting bosses when they could be hit at the earliest even though you've proven yourself to have no knowledge of the game, fine by me. :D i got other things to do. anyone wanting the video, aim me. otherwise, later guys, sad to see that the community is full of people who only want boring runs that could be done without tool assist. truncated, ideamagnate, aka, highness, and a few others, you're cool in my book. sorry that you have to be around such boring people. ggpo
