My second submission.

  • Length of movie: 18186 frames (05m03s)
  • Uses death as a shortcut
  • Abuses programming errors
"Spelunker" is famous for "too weak hero" in Japan. Many people feel this game difficult, but it is easy when becoming accustomed.
I can move quickly by taking a drug, and if I take another drug at the moment of ending its effect, I can get the "endless effect" until taking a drug again or Game Over. But this quick move has two faults... can't get off the truck and can't go up the steps because of jump power increase. For those reason, I use this "endless effect" technique only first level.
In order to jump over the rock, press left key of "Controler 2", and jump to right using "Controler 1". This can do only "left to right", not "right to left", so I used bombs to destroy the rock that located the left side.
I hope you enjoy this movie!
So sorry my poor English...

adelikat: Big improvement over the published run. Accepting.

wow, this is a no-brainer. YES I wondered about the possible differences with this U & J versions but there didn't seem to be any except I don't remember there being speed upgrades in the U version. If this is the case this run should still clearly obsolete it as they make it far more entertaining. Also I am really impressed by these creative time savers: 1) jumping up the ropes instead of climbing them 2) at one point you set a bomb and got a key and timed it that the bomb would kill you right as you got the key. Excellent trick.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Wow! Don't I feel owned now! :P Your run included A LOT of tricks I never even thought of, and also a better route. I too thought some about using that speed upgrade (yes, it exists in the U version too) but I found the character too hard to control, especially because he jumps too far, so I concluded that it wouldn't save any time. I guess this proves me wrong. :) Not to mention jumping over the stones instead of blowing them up. Really nice trick there. And I also agree with adelikat, those two tricks were really creative and generally awesome. So to put things short, really great job. You undoubtly have a lot of new cool time savers in your run, so it should definitely obsolete mine. It's just a little sad that this run gets submitted right after mine gets published. Perhaps there's a connection... :P YES.

Hmm, I'm conserned about the second controller trick, it sounds a lot like the one in Megaman 3. Is it acceptable?

Me too. But the fact that it only works in one direction and not the other, indicates it's probably a bug, not a debug feature. Which would make it allright.

Actually, it's not a second controller trick, it's a left+right trick. You can press left+right using only controller 1 and it will still work. It just happens that the game accepts input for the player from both controllers, so pressing right on controller 1 and left on controller 2 gives the same result. (And it is almost certainly a bug. Jumping like that from the wrong location gets you stuck on the rock forever.)

Absolutely unreal! I've watched several different runs for this on the Nes & Mame platforms, but nothing holds a candle to the superbness of your run. The rope trick definitely won me over. Definite Yes vote ^^ Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I have never played this game, but after watching this run after the previous submission, this is really awesome! You have came up with some quite creative solutions.

Absolutely incredible! I used to play this game on my NES, but I don't remember those red vials at all! I'd definately vote yes if I could.
