How about a damageless pacifist-run?
It would be quite interesting to watch a run in which Soma only damage and kill enemies when absolutely necessary or the enemy can't be avoided without taking damage (for example the axe armor before you meet the first boss).
Of course, you cannot level-up your character and collect, so the boss-fights will take longer than usual...
Are you sure it'll be entertaining?
Maybe you should try to improve one of the existing movies instead. For me, if there's a "pacifist run" and a normal speed through, I always watch the normal run, and since I've already seen a video, I don't want to watch the same thing with just less kills, something that despite not killing anything, will take longer to finish.
Maybe you should think it over and wait for feedback, unless of course you just want to make this movie because you want to see it done yourself.

I really dunno what to say
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself.
It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the
kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional
functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success."

I think its at least worth seeing. I tried the same thing earlier this year with SotN.. but since you level up freakishly fast just off of boss exp. it really didn't even make a 4 level difference by the end.

If you avoid everything but Giant Skeleton, Manticore, Great Armor, Balore, Death, and Graham (assuming you don't go for the best ending).
You'll only have 660 exp gained before Balore, which doesn't even put you to level 5. You'll probably have some crappy ass weapon, and so you'll be hitting for about... uhh, 1 damage per swing. 4000 strikes * 15 frames per hit = 1000 seconds or 16.6 minutes. that is under perfect conditions, too: Balore's fists aren't always down, and you can't hit the second eye too many times. You would definitely break the 20 minute mark.
Do you want to see someone fight a boss for 20 minutes? I don't think that that is worth seeing at all. I just fiddled around on my GBA and I got bored with the fight, even with a full Headhunter on.
No, I wouldn't "want" to and I certainly don't want or expect it to get published. However, I'm a fan of lowest level things and I can respect the challenge for what it's worth.
I'd like to see it just to have seen it. Not because I think it'll be the next Lord of the Rings but because it's something to kill some time and something I may even try in real time eventually.
IF it is made, however, I wouldn't want it to be a minimalist run. I'd like to see all bossed completed in the best order to show each boss completed at an idealy lowest level taking into consideration the bosses level in comparion to the players. No warping through L-Space (Discworld joke) and fighting bosses in an order to speed up earlier boss fights by having stronger weapons than should otherwise be possible.
Who knows... maybe I'm just weird like that.

Ok, that's right. The boss fights would be boring.
I think I'll follow Graveworm's idea and try to improve the old run from Atma, i've already some ideas how to do this.
Has anybody a list with HP of the bosses and enemies? Would be very useful.

Sorry for the double post, but should I get the Lightning Doll soul for fighting death?
I made some calculations, but I'm not sure.
At the moment I'm in the Floating Garden and I'm 337 frames faster than Atma.
Here is my run. It stops at frame 41155, and it's 827 frames faster than Atma's run.
Edit: Here is the run on DeHackEd's site.
Edit: I've made a huge list with all places where I saved/lost time. I could post it, too.
The changes came from more precise control, but I also saved much time with killing some enemies differently (see the room before the Chapel or the Death fight).
Oh no, please, not rapidshare! We have a specialised hosting place for emulator movie files, here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php.
I'd watch but I can't access your movie yet.
I've edited everything in my previous post.
But is ist allowed to use a rotten beaf in a no-damage-run? It reduces my HP and then I could use the Lubicant soul to beat the last three bosses faster.
I think it is allowed. Though I don't know if it's a good idea not to take damage (though it may be, as pirate_sephiroth's runs do that anyway; the point here is to make your run look different).
Now, time for the criticism. :)
1. After taking Gravekeeper soul, you move not in the fastest way.
2. Somewhere around frame 28000, I think it would be more advisable to jump on a platform (instead of swimming under it) at the first frame possible, take a boost there and only then proceed into the next room.
3. You waste a lot of frames killing the second werewolf around frame 31500, as you won't gain a new level before Death, anyway.
1. I didn't know that... cool!
2. I don't think it costs time.
3. You're right.
I know some other mistakes I made (i.e. using spear against arachne after beating great armor), but I think it's still ok. Or so I hope :)
[EDIT]
Probably so. But it is advisable to correct the mistakes so you could introduce a movie that is better in both technical and entertainment aspects. Or else you may encounter problems submitting it, cause there are so many spots for improvement (with not using pirate's travelling technique probably being the main of them). Besides, nobody's rushing you to complete the run, so you may take all the time you need.
So should I make a new one?
In this case I should find and use some new tactics.
I maybe know some changes:
-Get skeleton knight soul to beat manitcore faster (but I think it doesn't save time)
-Get lightning doll soul (i can't decide whether I should use it)
-Get lubicant soul (if rotten beaf is allowed)
So I have to plan it more carefully.
Question of entertaiment: Should I make some attacks before getting grave keeper to make it less boring?
Then... can I hope for some help? :)
Well, if you can incorporate all the known tactics to make it better, then by all means, do it! I'm eagerly awaiting such a run and I think it will have a pretty decent rating if done right.
Indeed. The best thing would be to gather all the useful info from other players and their works and see what you could do with it.
Probably. Just make sure you won't get an additional level up before the Creaking Skull fight.
The right people to ask would probably be Atma, pirate_sephiroth and Zurreco (as all of them were engaged in making AoS runs at some point). A good way to reach them is the IRC channel (#nesvideos at irc.freenode.net). Good luck on your run.
I found a faster method of the backdash-run:
Normally you have to turn around; but just with making an attack you havn't to turn backwards.
I tested it, and it's faster.
I'll soon post my new run (when I have defeated creaking skull).
Edit: I've left the boss room 111 frames faster than Atma did! ->Download<-
