Improvement information: This is a 621 frames (10.35s) improvement over the current Solstice movie. This run also visits one more room, which makes thie perfect timing and precision.
I chose to use the European ROM, because the current run is played with the European ROM, which makes the comparison between this run and Exim's run easier. There are no significant differences between the USA and the European version.
This run gets 35.74% completion compared to Exim's 35.54% completion.
About the game:The purpose in the game is the collect all the staffpieces for "The staff of demons". With this staff, you can rescue princess Eleanor from the evil wizard Morbius. The game also takes place in Morbius castle.
The game is filled with mindchallening puzzles, difficult controls, and often requires some real difficult maneuvers. A good game to TAS, that is! :)
What has been improved: The route is almost identical to Exim's route. The only difference is a slight routechange in the cave where you pick up the first staff-piece. This is where that extra visited room came from.
Another obvious change is the tactic in the room where I get the third staff piece. Here I use the purple block more efficiently, saving about half a second or so.
Other that these things, the improvement comes from more precise movements and jumps. There are quite a lot of maneuvers in this game that are really hard to pull off, so I'm really glad I had frame advance! :)
The making of the run: Most of this run was made a few months ago, then I got bored, and quit this project. But now I took it up again, and I'm quite happy with the result.
Most of this movie has been made entirely with frame advance, since most movements requires very precise movements.
Closing: Special thanks to JXQ for helping me fix so this FCM starts from reset.

I can't tell you a damn thing about what happened in this movie. But man, this is the most wicked bassline I've ever heard from the NES music format. Down with famtasia!

There's some kickin treble as well. Its like the programmers were trying to use the widest spectrum possible on the NES or something. Randil gets bonus points for being able to manoever through qbert land

Looks good. This game has some of the most wickedly cool music of any NES game (especially that bass!). I really had no idea what was going on in this movie but it seemed like there must have been a lot of route planning involved. Anyway, yes vote.

haha I love how EVERY shot of the main character during the cutscenes was the exact same "O NOO!*moon*" picture. I played the game for a couple minutes before I watched the movie and that really helped the movie to make sense, so with that I have a better understanding of the yes vote this movie deserves.

I wish this hadn't been done on the PAL version. The whole game runs in slow-motion, including the music.

Yeah, I agree. The game isn't really fast-paced, and PAL emulation only makes it slower. The music is also better on the U version, believe it or not. ;) Thanks for the kind words everyone, even though the game's music seemed to interest people more than the run. :P (By the way, I too think that the music in this game is really sweet, so don't worry.)

For whoever is interested, I recorded the soundtrack of ths AVI using Blargg's NES APU emulation API instead of FCEU's own APU emulation. I configured it to generate PAL audio at 96 kHz and resampled it to 48 kHz using a lanczos scaler. (Yes, I seem to put those everywhere.)

The Solstice TASing has a very long history. The first TAS of Solstice was probably among the first 10 videos ever published in this site. Thus Solstice has a special place in the heart of many of the oldest followers of this site (such as myself). It's certainly one of my favorite TASes.

Well, I hope there is an NTSC version done sometime. It's almost unbearable to watch it move so much slower than it should.

OMG. This is a very nerdy game. The "in your face" style plot, wacky music and the monsters… Those colored worms… just wow. But the best part of it are the cutscenes which apparently were drawn by the best artist on the planet (too bad I don't know his name!), I go laughing every time I see these beautiful faces. <div align="center"> "Oh no, it seems my cerebral palsy is progressing! Eh, I see… Though weirdwire isn't my server, it's located at my friend's place in Novosibirsk. He provides me some hosting space that I occasionally use. It seems he's experiencing some problems lately… Funny, but my own machine is connected, like, 24/7. I've replaced the pictures.
