Does anyone remember if the port of this SNES game to GBA is any good? I'm strictly a SNES player but someone suggested me to do a GB TAS of Donkey Kong Land 2, and in my research I found Super Donkey Kong Country 2 for GBA. Should I try a run of this, if I find it?

I'm not sure if any of the GBA Ports are any good or not, never tested them out. ;3 Not sure if there are any major differences. I guess it's supposed to have "Better Sound and Graphics" or something. EDIT: Just tried out DKC for the GBA. To Quote "The Critic". It Stinks! I suggest sticking to the SNES versions of the games.

I had this game for the GBA, and it was basically a slightly stripped-down port of the SNES version with mini-games. Other than that, I don't remember there to be any differences. I haven't played the DKC3 port, but the only thing that I've heard was different is the music. Strange.

Personally, I don't like the GBA version. I don't know if people would want it to be published, since it is so similar to the original version.

The port to GBA is much similar to SNES version. I sugest you to use Donkey Kong Land. This game have *only* the principal characters as the same. The stages and the bosses are differents. I remember when i buy a Game boy (in a long, long time ago) i buy DKL1 and waste a lot of time to finish the game totally. Ok, the graphics are bad, but SMB1 have a bad graphic too and nobody blame anyone to TAS it =D
Not more working on: DKC3 105% < Needs modified Nitsuja Snes9x+9, with reset recording.

SMB1 also has good gameplay and nostalgia going for it. The question is, does this have enough entertainment factor going for it to warrant it being TAS'd without people going "wtf boring :\".

I think that, compared to SNES it is inferior, and not a different/unique enough game to warrant a TAS.

what? DK Land sux terribly... I just played it because it had DK... otherwise I wouldn't even bother. There's DKC for GBC, and it's a lot better then DK land. The GBA versions of DKC may not be perfect, but they're still excelent games.

I think that since the DKC games are represented in SNES, and since those are the best of the DK games, and that the GBA versions have nothing new to offer that it'd be trivial to make TASes of these.

I agree. We 'd better do not use this similar games for movie. As to Donkey Kong games, how about the GBA game"Donkey Kong--King of Swing".This game is not bad,but not very famous.I've gone through it once.So difficult in later stages.

I found out there's an actual boss in the area where you're supposed to rescue DK before K. Rool wisks him away to his airship. It's not much anything worth doing a TAS over, but it's something.

World 5: Link to video We improved about 7 to 8 seconds in total up until King Zing Sting compared to the last video of world 4 back in June. Currently we are 2:31ish ahead of Avanor's TAS back in 2017. Sub 50 is confirmed, sub 49 may happen but is probably unlikely. Edit from the future: "probably unlikely", it was sub 49 lol

Link to video Made this TAS in two days. It's pretty bad & unoptimized, but it's still 22 seconds faster than Avanor's TAS RTA timing. Don't watch the final boss. A few things I discovered while creating this TAS: it's possible to lock our speed at a certain speed. After rolling through an enemy, if you start losing speed before you reach a ledge, you can duck at the ledge in order to retain speed a little longer until you can roll below the ledge on the ground or something. For example: You have speed 1088 from enemy, you start losing speed. You start falling when you're at 1048 speed, and you can't roll in mid-air, so you have to sacrifice your speed. Instead, you can duck right before falling, and, after losing a small amount of speed, your speed gets locked until you unduck or land on the ground. Your speed gets locked to 935, faster than rolling speed. ICE PHYSICS: two things. First, your true speed is different from your visual speed. Your true speed will always be normal physics, but your visual speed will have extra calculations done so that it seems a bit slippery. While your true speed may be 896, what you see is a speed is of only 100, due to turning right. Well, apparently, if your true speed is at 896 but your visual speed is at 100 but you are in mid-air, if you jump (without holding the B button), your visual speed gets snapped to 896 and will have normal physics until you land on the ground (aka ice) again. Second, and this is only useful in Animal Antics, Rambi's acceleration in ice physics is also like kongs: slippery and slow. However, it turns out that if you use the B Button to use his horn attack, he ignores ice physics and starts accelerating as if he's on normal ground. This saved two frames over not using the B Button. Keeping to the tradition of Rambi: when charging and then stinging something, if you don't hold anything on the d-pad, the speed decelerates by 8 every frame as opposed to the usual 20 ish when holding only right. When you roll through an enemy and get a speed boost (let's say 1088), and you turn around, your speed boost stays and you can go from 1088 to -1088. And for something that I just found out now: apparently (and it makes sense), the reason why sometimes being left of the goal post saves time is purely because the camera is further to the left and thus the kongs leave the screen sooner. Edit: I won't post anything new but it seems that there's easily 2 seconds of improvements in just Klobber Karnage alone lol. Also, doing a quick comparison between Squawks vs Squitter in Animal Antics Squawks section, it seems that Squitter saves about 6 seconds in total. (Direct video comparison between illayaya's Diddy's Dash TAS and my TAS in the video above. Note that my TAS does go for a banana coin & gets Dixie, so this might be closer to 8 seconds. Also note that the time save might be smaller or bigger in 102% as there's a Camera we need to get in Squawks' section. .bk2 file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/60313005635378661

I am posting this here because I realized no one who hasn't worked on the Any% TAS will have this. For the LUA Script, download the source code for: https://github.com/Isotarge/ScriptHawk And run ScriptHawk.lua . It will show you speed values and position values, which is very useful for TASing, obviously. It does not include mini game speed values, you will still have to find those manually for each mini-game. I will soon upload a version of ScriptHawk.lua that also let's you use the European and Japanese versions of the game. Edit from the future: it seems to work fine for gyrocopter mini-games. Not for Expresso Racing though.

Link to video Finally started a serious 102% TAS. This is 70.051 seconds faster than Avanor's TAS. It is likely even faster, as he has to enter a gyrocopter in order to reach 2-1, losing even more time. About the banana coin route: yes, it is about 15 frames faster to grab the last banana coin in 1-2 rather than the one in the first 1-1 bonus. I chose the latter as speed/entertainment trade off. I mean, it's way cooler than just jumping once, lol. Enjoy the WIP. 27k rerecords so far, all just for world 1. Edit: Also, here is a Spreadsheet that I use for the TAS: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tDbmGN11yZYPfsP2Q1iZV91SMPtYKq7bmRUQYhPSDSA/edit?usp=sharing I am currently 3:05 ahead after 34 minutes of gameplay. Sub 2 hours is looking to be likely... You can also find my submission notes for the TAS, so you can already see what the level-by-level comments look like, lol.

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1039022455 New skip discovered in 4-1 Hornet Hole by sikuhaku005 (I assume). Saves about 313 frames compared to the old TAS, give or take (5.24 seconds @59.7275fps). I suspect it might be possible to do the same trick in 4-3 Bramble Scramble and in 8-5 Animal Antics (Squawks section), and for 4-3 in 102% again but in a different spot potentially. The Hornet Hole skip saves time in 102% too.

Link to video Decided to upload worlds 1 to 3 for the 102% TAS. Progress has been non-existent because I moved out to another country back in 2021, then I went back to my country of origin a few months ago, and Kudgel is a piece of 0000 and I absolutely do not enjoy TASing Kudgel. I eventually finished Kudgel after all this time. Funny how I lived in a different country for a year before I could finish this one stupid level. As celebration I am releasing the first 3 worlds despite the fact I wanted to keep it all hidden until the end. Hopefully this creates motivation to get back into this TAS. It is currently 3:17.664 or 197.664 seconds ahead of Avanor's TAS at 61k rerecords.
