About The Game

This game is not my favourite, because I like the Castlevania series, but I don't like whips. Fortunately, we have Maxim Kischine: ninja best friend of Juste Belmont, armed with his Stellar Sword and his saddistic laugh.

About The Run

In this run I used the "whip launch" glitch to get inside a wall, and then zip my way out of the castle. My original intention was to end the run with a Maxim versus Maxim fight, but that's impossible... There's nothing in the final room in Castle A.
Thanks to Kaz, for finding the glitch (not Ogreslayer, sorry... I think he discovered how to do it off of ledges), and to Atma, who shortened the length of the run by 12 seconds!

Some quick notes:
  • When I kick the first candleholder, I backdash until Maxim gets past it and then jump towards the left to attack. It's not possible to jump to the right, and then move to the left and use the downwards kick and then attack, because.. you know what → ← ↓ B does, don't you?
  • When I fight Dracula Wraith, you may think I could do the finishing special attack faster, but it's necessary to wait a while(15 to 20 frames, not sure) after pressing ↑ + A to roll.
  • About the SRAM usage, I repeat what I said in the AoS hard mode run. Just complete the game with the best ending and then delete that saved game file. Now compare the resulting .sav file with the .sav created when you start this run.

something that breaks the rules (not legit rom, not speed at first goal, does not reach the end properly, too glitchful that it breaks the game, etc.) ?

All but the last one are good. You would have to define what 'breaks' a game, and that debate would never end.

We can throw around definitions all day but it's up to Bisqwit which published runs become concept demos and which ones don't. That's why I think it would be helpful for him to define it, or even better, place it on an appropriate part of the FAQ.

I'm awaiting a post by Bisqwit saying "WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH CASTLEVANIA GBA RUNS STOP THIS ALREADY!"

The 4 min Zelda:LttP run was as glitched as these... if your definition is adopted then it would probably have to be moved as well. If you look at 'concept demo' literally, then it would mean that the run demonstrate some new ideas that are potentially useful in TASing, but not eligible to be considered a full run... probably a run that is just intended to screw up the game bad and make the game developers look stupid??? I would probably consider all runs which uses SRAM to be concept demos, since they are incomplete and equivalent to making a movie from a savestate... then again does this mean that we can submit movies from savestates as concept demos if they are really glitchy and hilarious?

Finally watched. Voting YES because you kicked ass with Maxim. And I screamed out "HOLY SHIT". Obviously, it must have been good. And I don't agree with this being a "concept demo" as this is a run of a secondary character, which classifies as a normal game run.

when it ignores almost every important or semi-important goals, so that casual players, even used to watch tas and that know the game, can follow neither the plot nor what's going on. such runs that, when you watch them, you start to think it's a little frustrating to see it getting so badly glitched, that there's nothing left anymore of the initial game. eg : avoid every encounter, even mandatory ones, skips whole areas that weren't planned to be skipped, etc. ok I admit, it's quite subjective :(

I don't see a problem in that, to me that tas fits more in the concept demo section. imagine you've never watched a tas, let alone a glitchful one. if I tell you I have very shorts movies of Zelda or Castlevania, what would you say after watching those ? "oh that's just that... yeah it finishes the game but..."

except it just basically teleports from start of the game, to the end ? is it really a "normal" game run ?

Maxim's route only has one objective: KILL DRACULA. That is accomplished in this run. It's not a single level, not a "walkathon", it's a run of a game using a secondary character and breaks the game. This is no different than Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow using that through the wall glitches and that has been published as a normal game run and not a concept demo.

Firstly, Maxim's secondary objective is "don't get shanked." Secondly, to compare this to the glitch Aria movie is folly. By using a secondary character, you redefine what is and is not acceptable by the player. This is something that is not done with Soma, but is done by swapping Juste for Maxim. Why do you think the Julius run was moved to concept demo status?

My definition: Makes either winning or reaching the final stage/boss battle as trivial as activating the glitch. Alternatively, it could instead render a playthrough (after the glitch) unrecognizable as part of the original game.

Honest attempt att describing the concept demo category, by looking at what's in it now: * Uses a hacked/not officially released ROM: Air, Mario Adventure, SDW. Hacks are generally against the rules. * One track (not full game): F-Zero, Top Gear. Not completing the whole game is generally against the rules. The games which do not fit inside these categories are... * Sidestroller Mario: Really an April's fool joke, but interesting because it imposes a silly limitation which most people would think makes the game unwinnable. Such limitations are advised against in the guidelines. * Newgame+ CT: Modified SRAM. Modified SRAM is generally against the rules. This movie uses SRAM because it's the only way to access the hidden character (afaik). I don't think it fits in concept demos. It is not like any of the above movies. Question: do we have any other SRAM movies beside from AoS Julius movie and Hard mode movie? ----- KDR_11k> SRAM isn't accepted because that SRAM data is not known to be correct ... This is only part of the reason. Even if SRAM hasn't been tampered with there can be several correct possible SRAMs. This means movies do not have a common starting point. It gives us a lot of extra work, it is tricky to verify, it is just not useful if you could easily avoid it by just starting with clean SRAM. (I'm looking at you, Hard Mode movie.)

That's kinda like saying you like eating but you don't like food... Anyway, there's like... no game here. You blew through it almost too fast. As curious as it was to see, I'm not sure there's anything much exciting or interesting beyond getting into the wall in the first place. I dunno. I have to go "meh" on this one.

I just don't like THAT particular kind of food.

Of course, runs like this are interesting only to those who have played the game and know it very well (or to those like me who like glitches in general).

WTH? It's really true? Ok, i'm really don't like this game but, man, you're totally BROKE this one. It's so fast and SO BORING at the same time. Make me remember the Monopoly run... >__< Still you're pretty good at breaking the game... But still, if i can vote, it sure will be a Meh. What about a non-so-f***ing bug run? ^^

Sorry about that. but I've already obsoleted this. To the recycle bin with it.
