It's faster than Pom's movie but if your first thoughts was this movie aimed to obsolete POM's movie, then you are wrong. Yes, it's faster but another ROM version is used.
We've heard many rumors about Minus world -1 could be beaten and that Worlds -2, -3 and -4 exist. But in NES and Unisystem versions, the level is repeating when you enter the pipe at "end" of level. We've seen hoaxes like that but nothing proved us it was true. Except - 4, -2 and -3 really exist. After you beat -3, the game has been beaten once. Some people are claiming that you must deliver the princess to beat the game. I am saying, I saved 2 princesses. In any case, I think I should compare it to some Zelda glitched runs where some goals hasn't been achieved.
Note that when you beat the game, level select and 2nd quest modes are activated. So, I purposely stop the movie later to press B to return to title screen to let people verify by themself.

adelikat: Accepting for publication.
Bisqwit: … as a concept demo. This will not obsolete Pom's movie, not the least because it's a different game with different rules. (The differences in the games (NES SMB1, FDS SMB1) are completely unintentional and driven by the platform change, but striking in this particular movie.)
Bisqwit: Processing.

Um, voting no because it is a hacked rom? huh?
No, if I was unclear then let me elaborate. Voting NO because there are hacks that look 10 times better than this version and yes, I know Phils submission is not a hacked ROM.

Angerfist, please stop flaming. I find the ROM rather hard to find, despite being a very well-known game.

Since Angerfist is an idiot, someome else can explain me why "No commentaries" is not the same as "No comments"?

Voting YES as a concept demo because everybody has a whole different concept of -1, which is normally a looping water section. I understand the logic of how this works, since -1 is really World 36, -2 is World 35, and World -3 is World 34. World -4 (if it existed) would be World 33 and World 8-4 is World 32. If I remember my stuff correctly. Voting NO as a regular published run. This can't be considered as such.

It took me an hour to locate the rom and the the bios image, joy! Very well optimized run, but still not the most entertaining movie by any means. It has different objectives than pom's movie and should not be compared to or obsolete it. Ill vote yes, since it makes a good addition to the concept demo section.

Sorry, But Phil is right. they do mean the same. Its just that "No comments" is more commenly used and some people may not have ever heard anyone say "No commentaries". And ah, Please refrain from flaming in the forum. It is just troublesome and causes meaningless arguements.

It doesn't reset itself, it's me who puposely press B button to return to title screen. So it invites people to check by themself to verify that 2nd quest and level select modes are activated which are only there if game has been beaten.

All of the other movies on this site which beat games in abnormal manners, STILL beat it in a way which triggers the ending screen and/or ending credits to play. This does neither, so it may not qualify as beating the game.
Saying the game is beaten or not is just a matter of opinion. Personally, I think the game has been beaten. Also, you must consider that the ending is glitched. There's no ending text or princess but there's no Toad either. It's glitched.

I would like to know why. Your opinion is important.

That was pretty cool. How come you slowed down to kill those two goombahs in 1-1? Did it not slow you down because of the 21-frame thing? Other than that, it looked good to me. It's kind of like the Wizards & Warriors "reuse level" thing. Pretty neat. Voted yes.

After watching, I thought this was creative. It shows a different side to Super mario bros. Also, its not like Phil cheated his way to the end. This is my opinion on this movie. Phil found a faster route than Pom to finish super mario bros. He finished it ALOT faster than Pom did. And he did finish it since you can do the 2nd quest like Phil pointed out. I see no problem with publishing this either obsoleting Pom's movie or publishing it right next to it on the main nes games page. Usually the movies into "concept demos" are made to show something different like Hacked ROMs or slower routes, such as Bisqwits Walkathon SMB. This movie is totally different from a demo. I am voting yes. Nice movie Phil.

At the very least I have a problem with the fact that the run only applies to a very specific (and reasonably obscure) version of the game. So I would probably say alongside, going by those lines.

Eclisped Moon: Is it still the game game. Its almost like taking mine and Angerfist's rockman 3 run and putting it in the concept demo because the movie applies to a specific version of the game.

I actually have forgotten to watch that one, I wasn't aware that that version also would only work with that specific version, in which case I'd have to see what it is before saying what my opinion on that would be. So, I will reply or edit this post in 30 minutes. :)

SMB1 FDS is not more obscure than the one on NES or VS. But it's indeed different. As all other FDS games used for making runs like Zelda 2, Eggerland, SMB2j etc...

I vote yes for a concept demo because it does in fact beat the game in the end but in a different way which isn't as comparable to Pom's. Either way, I enjoyed this thoroughly because of it's different approach to completing Super Mario Bros.

I haven't watched this yet, but I don't know why it should appear as a concept demo. Is the glitched A Link to the Past run in the hacks/concept demos section?
No.

The word is 'commentaire' in french (et al.), but 'comment' in english, so 'no commentaries' is incorrect.

"Concept demo" is today's undefined, confusing, trouble-making, arbitrary buzzword(s). Note that using a particular version (J) shouldn't make it a "concept demo" because Rygar's glitched warp (E) is not in the concept demos section. Very few movies are actually there, which I think is good. I also haven't seen this run yet, cuz I can't find the stupid ROM. Edit ---- A little birdie helped me locate the ROM. This is neat! I wonder why the -1 world is so different in the FDS version. I especially liked the zombie princesses scattered throughout. I vote yes, but I think this should be placed alongside the current SMB run rather than obsoleting it. (And not in the concept demos section...ugh)

Look for the FDS version of Super Mario Bros. (1985) The one I got had no (J), instead, it had a (1985)
