It's faster than Pom's movie but if your first thoughts was this movie aimed to obsolete POM's movie, then you are wrong. Yes, it's faster but another ROM version is used.
We've heard many rumors about Minus world -1 could be beaten and that Worlds -2, -3 and -4 exist. But in NES and Unisystem versions, the level is repeating when you enter the pipe at "end" of level. We've seen hoaxes like that but nothing proved us it was true. Except - 4, -2 and -3 really exist. After you beat -3, the game has been beaten once. Some people are claiming that you must deliver the princess to beat the game. I am saying, I saved 2 princesses. In any case, I think I should compare it to some Zelda glitched runs where some goals hasn't been achieved.
Note that when you beat the game, level select and 2nd quest modes are activated. So, I purposely stop the movie later to press B to return to title screen to let people verify by themself.

adelikat: Accepting for publication.
Bisqwit: … as a concept demo. This will not obsolete Pom's movie, not the least because it's a different game with different rules. (The differences in the games (NES SMB1, FDS SMB1) are completely unintentional and driven by the platform change, but striking in this particular movie.)
Bisqwit: Processing.

I retract my idea of this being a concept demo. This is the fastest way on the FDS (as far as I know) and it does in fact beat the game. Regardless I already voted yes and I still vote yes.

Yessed this I agree that this would probably do best alongside the other SMB movie in the regular NES section, but the description of the published movie should have it BOLDED or capitalized that this is a version that uses a VERY specific rom that handles -1 differently from any other version of SMB. It's not quite the same as a hack or a bad rom, it's just a different version of the same game, so it's not quite appropriate for the Concept Demo section.

Trippy! I vote for publication in its own category, like the ALttP and Zelda 2 glitch runs.

I thought I had just about every version of SMB in existance, but I can't find the FDS version. Guess I'll have to wait for an avi to experience this.

I can't even find the right ROM, I've tried 4 different ones. There just doesn't seem to be one simply named with (J). Edit: Ah, FDS. Guess I will have to wait too.

It should not obsole the SMB-run, but it should be published nevertheless, it was quite amusing to watch.

I never knew a glitchy world like this existed! Too bad its only four levels...I'd vote yes for concept and meh for the "non-concept"! Many people are interested in glitches (like me) so yes to this.

Yes'd it. The run looked very funny (the minus worlds are really messed up), and I couldn't spot any possible improvements aside from the strange ending (couldn't it be ended a bit earlier?).

Hello, I voted yes. But not to replace anything that's currently on the site. Add this as a concept video and link it from the normal SMB runs as it's more like these glitched Zelda runs than a real improvement over the current runs (it's faster, but it's not the real ending you achive even though the game may "think" otherwise. I think this should be published alongside the other run but not replacing it. Concept demos are more movies with strange goals rather than strange methods aren't they?
What's a man like me supposed to do with all this extra savoir-faire?

Aren't they? Who knows?? Certainly not any of us!!! What the hell is a concept demo???? Hacked game????? Starting from SRAM?????? A really short game??????? A run that isn't "normal"???????? A run that sucks but for some reason is published anyway????????? A way to publish four different movies of the same game without someone complaining?????????? Accomplishing something that nobody accomplished before??????????? Accomplishing something that nobody even dreamed of, creating something novel, new???????????? (What's the fucking difference?????????????) Let's keep speculating ourselves without receiving an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allright, I just watched this, and I'm voting Yes. Although I do think that this run should be published separetly from Pom's run, because they beat the game in so different ways (pretty much like there are different movies for Castlevania 3). As for the movie itself, I was very entertained, I've never seen the minus-world before (I've only heard about it once or twice) , so that made this run even more entertaining. As all of your runs, this one also looked extremely well played. Good job. :)

I don't mean to try to argue or anything, but I seriously doubt this.
Depends on where you're from and who you're asking, I guess. Of course the FDS version is obscure and probably not known to casual players outside of Japan, but... With regard to whether this should be a concept demo or not, let me clarify my earlier point by saying that I think this run should be published alongside Pom's run rather than replacing it. Whether you call it a "concept demo" (or, for that matter, anything) or not is really a matter of taste.

First of all, I voted yes. And you know what? If this game beats it so quickly, you probably have enough time to go into 8-4 with level select, win, and STILL obsolete the published run. Legit, right?

In regards to the concept demo situation, yes, it's sad that this entire site is shifting towards the "concept demo" (me included) and away from what really makes a TAS worth publishing.

Here is someone who understands me. I first voted no because this movie looks horrible (in terms of how the stages are built) but I (honest to God) forgot to write similar questions as the man above (Jay) me did. I can relate to Bisqwits walkathon (however you write it) being a concept demo but in my opinion, I dont see a shit of that perspective in this submission. Yes, I dislike Phil at the moment and yesterday I spoke through emotions bla bla but this is a more logic post. He beats a FDS game of Super Mario Bros.. And? Can someone fill in the rest? Hell, if we are going to accept these pointless and reduntant versions of a game then I see no problem to accept optimized submissions of other FDS games which would lead to a massive overflow of runs. Wasnt a bit entertained, in fact, this run is not even close to Poms run in terms of entertainment. I feel Im entitled to compare this run with Poms since everybody else are. Phils audience arent Japanese so thats another wrong reason to use this version (yes I wished I could turn back time and pick the Mega Man 3 (U).nes ROM).

Dont try to offend adelikat by claiming its easier to control 2 players. You dont need to be a genius to figure out that you are clearly protecting Genisto. There are so many difficult aspects controlling 2 players compared with controlling 1 player that I dont even know where to begin with. And this coming from you is quite remarkable since you have done a 2 player run and know its harder. Edit: Done posting in this thread, now it is time for the people at IRC to really pay attention to the workbench because any moment now, our God will submit his run.

Quoting and pasting texts from other topics here. You are patthetic. Worse than that, it's NOT even related to this submission.

Clearly there is no debate that this movie should be published and clearly no one other than Phil thinks it should obsolete Pom's movie (sorry dude, but they are just too different). The only real debate was about the concept/demo's section. This probably stems from the fact that no one really understands what it is specifically for. I thought my interpretation of it would suggest that a movie like this be in it. JXQ's post made me think that I really had no interpretation at all since I really couldn't answer any of his questions. So... I am accepting this run and letting Bisqwit decide WHERE the published run properly goes. I request some clarification of the concept/demo's if it is placed there (or even if it is not). Also, I love the suggestion of level selecting and then beating the game. If that could have been done and still be faster than Pom.... oh man that would have been awsome.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects
