Those are exactly the enemies with the black spikes on top of them. You can see them clearly. So they DO have hazardous tops.

shyguy doesn't have spikes on his head, and giant hammer bro was stompable on original mario 3 so he is saying shigeru miyamoto is wrong, he is a heretic.

Well the spiked shyguys and giant hammer bros obviously aren't the same as the ones seen in SMB2 and SMB3, but instead their twisted cousins or something. I don't see any harm in adding more variety to the good old list of enemies.

the giant hammer bro look and acts exactly the same. it just doesnt accept stomping on his head. The shyguy has no spikes. Anyway, harmfull spikes are always HUGE. Small triangle spikes can't hurt. Even so, the shyguy has NO spikes at all, not even small ones.

To be honest, FODA, I think you're just splitting hairs. The black Shyguys do indeed have spikes. Size of the spikes doesn't matter much. Besides, how could Mario not stomp on Bowser's head in Mario 1, yet could do so without being harmed in Mario 3? Videogames are not known for logical consistancy, not even the Mario series. That being said, the final 3 worlds look pretty good Krysmis, though I do have one thing to point out. In 8-5 I was able to run and slide under the ledge and hit the three blocks with the Racoon tail, granted it took four attempts since it slides you back out to the right. But it's a heck of a lot faster than running back and forth across the canyon.

Really? You must be a lot better at this than I am because I tried and tried and couldn't get it to work. Great to know it's possible! EDIT: And Foda, it seems to me that you're just looking for excuses to bash this hack.

Why do you guys argue about cosmetic things like black spikes on enemies? I don't really care if an object looks harmful to stomp. I only care whether it is harmful to stomp. When it comes to hacks, you shouldn't assume anything.

I'm talking about the yellow shyguy found on the first level. And i'm just giving arguments to why this hack is not good.

This is exactly what you're doing. You expect enemies to be vulnerable in a certain way, but they're not, so you're flagging that as proof that it's a bad hack. That's not proof that it's a bad hack. It's you stating that you'd have done something differently. As for that yellow shyguy, I don't know what you're talking about. I could only find one shyguy of any kind in the first level of world 1, and I stomped all over it.

Then it's buggy because when I tried to stomp on it, it was like he was not there, then i hit the ground and since we were both in the same place in the ground, i was hit. I'm not gonna discuss game design here, if you want to make a run for this hack i can't stop you. good luck.

Actually, i can't tell but it probably was in english... i've been spending a lot of time in front of the computer so there are days that i "speak" more english than portuguese, sometimes i catch myself "thinking" in enligsh. And it's annoying.

The yellow shyguys are perfectly stompable (I did it in my movie, too), it's the black spikey ones that you can't jump on. The yellow Shyguy is just fireproof.

For future reference, Krysimys, here's a quick video of an imperfect start to 8-5, demonstrating how to hit the bricks with the raccoon tail instead of flying over the gap to get blocks. Basically, you run and duck and slide, then when you're next to the block hold down and A for a couple of frames, then let go of down and hit B and keep holding both B and A until the block is broken, then release them both and hit down again to keep from sliding all the way out. From there it is probably possible to keep ducking and jumping to reach the next brick without having to run back out and slide again like I did in the video. I only did that because it was faster to make a demonstration with.

Thanks for the movie, I'll be sure to use that. Here is World 1 of the new version. I'm quite happy with this, I think I found the fastest ways to get the mushroom, the leaf and the fireflower. Please tell me what you think.

The only part that I wondered was in the third level, when you duck-jump through the wall. It seems like it may be faster to just jump over the wall, keeping your running speed. But, I did no testing, so I'm probably wrong. Otherwise it looks awesome. Switching powers at any time just opens up so many possibilities.

It looks good to me. Much better over the old one. Though, looking at the structure in the level where he slides through the wall, I also have to wonder which was faster. I assume you did your testing, it's a hard thing to tell with the naked eye, though. And the reason he went to the second toad house 'later', as was mentioned before, was because his first trial video was unknowingly made on a previously started game, not a clean restart. He started off with 166 coins in that one, and in this playthrough he had to wait until he gathered 300 normally in order to go to the toad's house to get the Magic Wand.

I did test not going through the wall and it turned out to be just as fast as going through the wall, and I thought glitching through the wall was cooler, especially since I don't even kill the Whomp but instead jump over it almost touching it. Thanks for the positive comments, I'm not sure I can get anything done this weekend since I have some plans but hopefully you'll hear from me next week.

I had some time on my hands and I'm now done with World 2! Before you say anything about not having running speed at the end of the self scrolling part of the last level, I'll save you the trouble. I tested it and it wouldn't have been any faster to have running speed. You can't preserve it when coming out of pipes that are upside down. You CAN save some of the speed but in this case, it would not have made a difference because I still get to throw the ice blocks right away and I have to wait for the vine to grow. Please post your comments!

I see no speed improvements, but I have a couple questions: Level 2 - Whoa! Is this a variation of the duckjumping into a corner trick? Level 3 - I think I understand why you took the hit - the screen needed to be scrolled to start the battle. I know you can get hit 3 times with the Magic Wand - does that counter reset between levels or something like that? Level 4 - What caused the level to end? Level 6 - Curious - if you don't kill both Boom Booms at the end, will the other one cause damage or mess up the end-of-level counters, etc.? Overall, looks great. I don't know the engine of the game too well when it comes to jumping at the best time to keep superspeed, but I am really enjoying the optimization of switching powers during the level and rationing out your coins to buy the items that save the most time.

Perhaps not in the levels themselves, but I did skip one Hammer Brother and the "timebomb" level.

It's a strange trick really, because Mario isn't calmly transported to the other side, but instead shot up in the air like a rocket. I've really no idea why.

No, the counter never resets, but I have found a glitch that allows me to take as many hits as I want without actually taking damage. It involves changing powerups just as an enemy hits me.

Some levels simply end when you reach a certain point in the level.

If you only kill one Boom-Boom and leave the other one alive it can still kill you. If it doesn't, the level will be completed normally. Thanks for the comments!

Hooray for me and my ambiguous text! I meant that I had no ideas to improve what you had already done.
