Submission Text Full Submission Page
This is my second run of Mario 64 and by far the biggest difficulty I encountered was doing the run in a way that would seem new to most people, I personally think there is just enough justification to watch it over the previous submissions .Most of the time saved came from the over world route and execution, although generally there is small frame shaving improvments throughout the game which will most likely go unnoticed, since improvements were so difficult to find I actually save a lot of time through avoiding lag. I admit my run isn't perfect but there can't be that much improvement.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • abuses programming errors
  • takes damage to save time
  • manipulates luck
This movie improves on Rikku's previous submission by over 7 seconds, Most of the time saved came from not saving at any point since there is a brief period where the the select bar can move but you can't select and options. I also used a slightly different overworld route which saved time as well, but generally everything else is just frame shaving improvements.

DeHackEd: Apparently mupen64 has a movie termination bug. ZIP file replaced with a fixed version.

DeHackEd: Another ZIP replacement, due to changes to the final Bowser fight.

adelikat: Delayed by authors request (new technique).

adelikat: You sir, have been bested.

Not mentioning by what extent you improved over a movie you are attempting to obsolete should be an instant rejection.

For the record, the currently published run is 15:34.77 long, making this one a 7.52 second improvement. This is actually significant, considering the currently published run was only a 5.55 second improvement over the one it obsoleted.

Oh, I knew that much. I just didn't appreciate having to check what the improvement was on my own time. My time is very precious, you see.

Zurreco is right, i hate it when the total improvement isn't clearly visible in the submission text. i'll edit in 20 minutes with my impressions, but 7 seconds faster can't go wrong :) edit: wow, there were some smart moves there. I agree that it looks very polished. What's the total amount of re-records? It's over 29 thousaaaaaaaaand!!!

It'd be neat to be able to select another submission that you are obsoleting when you submit (and then have an automatic link on the new submission page), but this feature would no doubt be abused to the point that we wouldn't be allowed to have it in the first place.

Very, very nice. I like the new camera angles and the overall greater sense of polish. Yes vote. EDIT: Wait a minute. You don't pick up the final star, and don't "finish" the game.

Very nice run, improvements were actually noticeable. I really enjoyed the camera angles you used, especially in the Bowser fights. Voting yes. On a side note, I still believe one day someone will find a way into Bowser 2 without using mips. A run that could do that would obsolete this by 10 minutes. I have done extensive testing but to no avail, maybe this is just a pipe dream of mine.

great improvements better angles better entertainment yes, you should mention in the submission text where exactly you saved time; people like to see that to know what to expect. Of course you get my yes vote.

My favorite part of the run: Mario climbing the steeps slopes on his belly while making a "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound :) Hilarious! Great run! (An obvious yes vote)

Someone makes a good improvement to a great movie and you all start whining because he didn't mention the saved time and you have to do a little work?

Somehow I found this run to be a little less entertaining than the previous two. Hmm, strange. You used some interesting angles in Bowser stages, although the switching was noticeably sporadic (like the first throw in final bowser). Also, I still don't like that "zoom out as much as possible" trend you started with your first version. Camera clip while glitchsliding up the mountain looked awful. But it is a yes vote.

Amazingly, I can't think of any serious way to abuse this. What do you think?

I voted yes. It's nice and fast, with some glitches I hadn't seen before. Clearly, the 120-star run is more entertaining, but this one suffice to amuse and amaze.

Someone could swap an accepted submission with something stupid I guess, but I don't really see why anyone would go to the trouble.

I would of liked a detailed explanation of why this movie is faster in the submission text, but I do not understand why this is seen as a necessity. What if he refused? This speed run should of never of seen the light of day? Obscene. This was an amazing run, and the improvements were obvious and vast. A definite yes vote and I can not wait for the AVI.

Good stuff, an improvement is, in fact, an improvement. I liked most of everything you did to progress and so yes vote.

Haha, well regardless of some of the irritability around here, this is a great run! Those improvements are more noticeable then you might think! I guess you really have to look for them, it does seem more crisp overall. Well done, definetly a yes from me. :)

That may be the general opinion in the forum, but clearly now that run can be improved by well over a minute possible 2.
