"Your mission: Save the captured princess Lala from the Great Devils evil empire!!! You are the only one who can save Lala."
By collecting every heartpiece in the room a treasure chest opens with a pearl inside. If you collect this pearl a door will open and you advance to the next level. This game contains 50 of these levels.
  • FCEU
  • Uses no passwords
  • Manipulates luck (enemy movement)
  • Abuses programming errors
This is a 263 frames improvement over my sixth version of Adventures of Lolo.
  • Level 3-1 was improved by 72 frames (thanks to BagofMagicFood)
    • The shots are now better used
  • Level 8-5 was improved by 188 frames (96 frames saved due to suggestion from BagofMagicFood, another 22 frames because I found a faster route than the suggestion)
    • The medusa's are now synchronized
  • Level 1-4 was improved 1 frame (thanks to AnS)
    • Lower path is taken after collecting all hearts, which doesn't need the frame of luck manipulation that the upper path needed
  • Level 7-2 was improved 8 frames (thanks to AnS)
    • Instead of locking up the Don Medusa at the bottom, it's now locked at the top
  • Level 10-3 was improved 64 frames (thanks to AnS)
    • This improvement came from walking around the bubbles to push them in the water
When watching the movie, you'll notice that these improvements are the only things changed. This is since the rest was hexedited (thanks Bag).
For this newest version, I'd like to thank BagofMagicFood and AnS, and also Hanzou who found lots of great improvements at the previous submission.
I present you my final version for the 10th (?) time!

My gf would vote yes for sure, it's her favorite game =) But she's not a member... =P ... Oh wait! She is... She's the Mad in my nick, and that's no joke =} For me, i thought the game was very well played like the last one, but since there is actually some legit time save, i will vote yes.

Seconded. Must've felt nice to only have worked around 10 minutes on this and submitting it :) thanks to Truncated. Voted yes.

Well... if hexing didn't work, I probably wouldn't have made this this year. It is true that there might come another suggestion of something else being improvable... but I don't know if that will be tomorrow, or in 5 years, or never, which is why I submitted this.

Um, you might not want to accept this, since I think I can improve level 8-5 by at least 22 frames. This is because I started working on Eggerland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu again, and some of the levels in that game were copied into Adventures of Lolo and Adventures of Lolo 2 (I found a way to save 34 frames in that game, too). But first I want to see if I can find any faster solution, then check that it works in Adventures of Lolo.

Okay, I found a solution that's 96 frames faster: http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/lolofix.zip I think I'll stop now.

Right... for those who didn't know; the movie status is not delayed anymore. I found a way to improve BagofMagicFoods improvement of 96 frames by 22 frames. This means level 8-5 is now 118 frames faster than the version that was submitted before, and the total improvement over the sixth submission is 190 frames.

Judging by the screenshot, your run still can be improved. :)

AnS PMed me with fcm's of three levels that could be improved. One of those levels happens to be the level from that screenshot. Some very nice finds... great job AnS :) Submission status is 'delayed' once more.

The movie file has finally been updated. It is now 73 frames faster than the previous update, which makes the movie 263 frames faster than the previous submission. This last update was due to 3 suggestions from AnS (thanks!). Level 1-4 was improved 1 frame Level 7-2 was improved 8 frames Level 10-3 was improved 64 frames And thanks to BagofMagicFood for hexediting, so that I didn't have to play the entire thing from level 1-4 again. For a little more detail, check the submission text.

I must ask this: What's with those medusa head statues? You mostly seem to want to have something between you and those things, but sometimes you don't seem to have a problem moving so they can "see" you. What are they supposed to do?

When Lolo and the enemy move to opposite directions, it is sometimes possible for it to happen without the enemy shooting even if there's nothing in between. But this is more of an exception than rule. As far as I understand anyway.

But those statues don't move at all, and I can see that they acknowledge Lolo being in the line of sight because they change the way they look.

The "vision range" of Medusas and Don Medusas is about 3 pixels wide, so simply moving the opposite direction won't let you avoid them. There are a few possibilities which may look like what you're talking about: 1. You can move 2 pixels behind or ahead of a Don Medusa without getting killed, since that's barely out of its range. 2. If an enemy stepped into a square between you and a Medusa or Don Medusa by even one pixel (as in the end of 3-1), its vision is considered blocked. This seems to be because the enemy is considered to be at its destination square (0-7 pixels ahead of its location on the screen). 3. If you're overlapping with half of a Heart Framer in a direction perpendicular to a Don Medusa's vision, it won't attack you. (Medusas can't be in range under these conditions, so they won't attack either.) 4. If your top or left half overlaps with a Heart Framer, a Medusa or Don Medusa won't attack you. 5. I have no idea how 2-3 works. From my limited testing in level 2-5 of Lolo 3, the fact that the Don Medusa is moving in the opposite direction seems relevant, but I have no idea beyond that.

Yeesh, talk about confusing. Well, thanks for the clarification. I guess I just missed whatever it was that blocked the statues.

*digs up old pic* This? Bag of Magic Food's Eggerland run does this a whole bunch of times. :p It's a glitch in Don's collision checks; I think it was something along the lines of "he can't see you in a certain range of pixels juuuuuust big enough for you to sneak by, if you both cross 8x8 grid lines at the same time", or something along those lines. (Eh, that's probably completely wrong. :p) Though in US Lolo 1, which is a later game, they probably fixed the basic walk-right-on-by part, but perhaps forgot to do the appropriate tweaks to the line-of-sight-blocking code, which would explain Lolo 1 needing that heart just to Lolo's left for the trick to work. (Or at least, when I tried, I couldn't get by without that heart there. <_<')

Yeah, in the first FDS Eggerland you just had to be a few pixels out of synch with Don Medusa, and then he couldn't hurt you unless he physically bumped into you. I know that there's even a walk-on-by situation in Adventures of Lolo 3, though. In level 2-5, you can just run straight across the heart and he won't get you. I'm not sure if it's the timing, the fact that you're running over a heart, or both, though.
